The whole video was emblematic of geissele as a company in a nutshell - talking about solutions and materials, from bolt carrier material to barrel steels and profiles that have been created, implemented and used by other companies for many years as though geissele just came up with them for the very first time Also, a bit chickenshit to try to portray the only issue as being the gas tube needing replacement when the video footage shows that the barrel droop is so severe that the replacement gas tube doesn't cycle the bolt anyway and the upper functions exactly the same as it would with the damaged gas tube

Geissele is the best AR maker in the business. You cannot convince me otherwise. When I have had issues, even two years after purchase, they offer to fix it for no charge. I own a ridiculous amount of their products. They are simply the best. And before you ask, I own KAC, LMT, DD, etc. Geissele team, Mr. bill, please keep the videos coming and uphold the reputation you worked so hard to build.

This is the most professional and respectable responses I've ever seen by any company. I always had a ton of respect for Geissele, but this takes it to another level. Taking constructive feedback on an already incredible product and working to make it better is amazing to see. Unfortunately, Hurricane Ian took my URGI near Fort Myers Beach 2 years ago. Since then, i've been saving up for a Super Duty but haven't pulled the trigger yet on one. If this heavy barrel and custom gas block/gas tube goes into production, it'll be a must have. Very excited to see the results of the upcoming test!

So basically you recreated the original Colt LMG with the reinforced thicker gas tube along with the extra thick bbl. The Colt IAR used a similar bbl with the standard gas tube. So the new upper will require a H3 buffer where your previous would require and H2 to prevent bolt carrier bounce. More than likely, the bolt will be the failure point in this condition unless barrel erosion causes gas leakage lowering port pressures inducing short stroking.

Hey have you heard of red right hand uppers? They are basically doing this but also have heat sinks for the barrel and gas tube to allow the system to run longer and help prevent cook offs. If you can get your hands on one I’d enjoy hearing what you have to say about them!

Absolutely solidifies my new love for Geissele. Not only did the round count convince me the Super Duty is my next choice for a ( kinda ) affordable AR that'll out last me. Simple Carpenter here whos dollars are few and hard earned. This video proves to me, again, Geissele is the company i trust the most. By far. Second this. Is there any reason why the is couldn’t become the new standard? I have already seen some manufacturers switching over to straight gas tubes to reduce the potential failure that normally occurs at the bend in milspec gas tubes.

They merely copied Colt's gas tube for their light machinegun AR. It's actually a bad idea to use one on a standard AR. The gas tube is essentially a fuse to stop you from blowing up the barrel. Plus, unless you're using the AR as a light machinegun, you'll never need a heavy duty gas tube. Wasted weight.

My understanding is that AR15 is essential designed to fail at the gas tube because it’s not catastrophic. So this is essentially exactly what you’d want to see.

This is good to see. I bought the 14.5 barrel, bomb-proof install, the MK16 rail, and the EBCG when it still had the 168+ bolt. The difference is I went with a inconel gas tube. Using that gas tube was just insurance since I'm hoping to never have to see 900 rounds of continuous fire out of it.

Daniel defense m4a1 block 2 with socom barrel from brownells is basically the same thing but u have socom heavy barrel that will last the same and isnt quite as thick. Idk why they didnt go with that as it is proven and not quite as heavy but will last just the same. Run till the rifling burn out and loose pressure.

Currently have built two SD’s and a URGI had my eye on your 6ARC but very curious to see if you go to a heavy barrel option. I also have to give props. All my builds/assemblies of all 3 rifles went together flawlessly. I used all of your parts, went together as if factory built. All 3 passed Go/NoGo the first time. That is a testament to quality manufacturing. Last tidbit… I also picked up your button barrel I think the day it dropped. I did not want to build another SD with the wrong barrel. So hopefully you guys expand on what this barrel is designed for. Is it purpose built or just a cheaper offering? Anyway, very happy customer loved this video.

After seeing all the meltdown videos, I started to notice the trend was that all of the best uppers always still eventually failed for the same reason, the gas tube. I was wondering who would be the first to jump out ahead of the standard gas tube failures and provide a functional upgrade that makes the AR-15 platform upper "meltdown proof" when paired with an extended full auto schedule of fire. Much respect to you guys for being the ones to step up with exactly what I was imagining as the solution; the only part I'm upset about is that I'm not also a part of the kickass team that gets to do this kind of thing from time to time. Looking forward to the results!

is it possible for you to elaborate on the mechanic described at 3:48 and why the extra material forward of the gas port on the Gov profile diverts heat back to the thinner portion? I was under the impression that extra thickness was simply not beneficial/mucking up weight distribution-not necessarily actively detracting from heat management. That's very interesting and I'd like to know more if possible.

It will probably start cooking off round around the 1,000 round mark due to the heat build up of the heavy barrel. It would be awesome to incorporate small barrel fins on the heavy profile to allow for faster cooling of the barrel so it can survive longer.

20 + years ago, a US Army unit soldier had his support hand injured when he tried to shoot several Beta-C drums through his M4. The barrel melted and a bullet exited about 5 inches from the chamber. It went through the handguard into the guy's hand...

Very cool analysis. I would be curious if adding cooling fins to the gas tube would help. I'm thinking about 3D printed metal fins connected together that slide over the gas tube. They would dissipate heat and offer support to the gas tube. Is that even possible?
