The French Defense forces positional play until, suddenly out of nowhere, seemingly, tactical ideas blossom. The French in the hands of a great player is a formidable weapon.

And, after WWII people stopped playing French defense. (j/k)

Why? Because surrender is their forte?

+Bimal Pudasaini I won with the French in a simul game in Vietnam. I don't remember the GM I was playing.

It is a treat to watch Alekhine grab the initiative from his opponent even when playing with black pieces!

Great game, Mato! I love playing the French Defense. I seem to more trouble playing against the Exchange Variation than the Advance Variation.

Alekhine has a penchant for grabbing the initiative from his opponent even when he plays with black pieces!

Nothing spoils the French Defense for Black like the Exchange Variation. That is why I am glad Alekhine won this one.

Would castling king side at 1:22 be viable? If queen takes pawn then rook to E1, pinning the queen.
@Arisudev8 жыл бұрын
at first i didnt see the rook move to f3 is bad and also why the opponent resign after moving the queen which seems like an okay move (exchanging queens) but oh dang it the forced check mate is so sharp it chills me out
