My guess is this shit blew up, I've boosted NA subaru motors the same way over 15 times and literally blew the heads off my block with ARP head studs, cracked cylinder walls, detonated pistons, threw rods, shoved a valve through the valve covers and that was all on 8 psi Fast as fuck, but itll also blow up fast as fuck. Not worth it, dont do it!
@hunterjames9428
@hunterjames9428 3 жыл бұрын
Would it do the same on a built engine?
@brianaggson1074
@brianaggson1074 3 жыл бұрын
@@hunterjames9428 depends on how you build it. If it's an NA block that's open deck itll have issues but if its semi closed deck and has decent internals it may be fine. NA blocks are weak, the cylinder walls are prone to flex because they're is nothing keeping them stable to the block. Just open coolant journals. Also youd have to probably port the heads a little bit to help with flow but that's neither here nor there. I've done this quite a few times with stock compression, stock block and it never lasts that long but it is a different kind of fast for a Subaru.
@GoldGuyRides
@GoldGuyRides 3 жыл бұрын
I've driven it close to 10,000 miles on 5psi with no engine problems. I am thinking about turning it up to 8psi soon though so that might be the nail in my ej's coffin. We'll see

I'll pray for you on this install. something tells me it's not gonna be an overnight thing. Also I would seriously consider fuel and engine management before installing this kit. otherwise without a tune it's gonna run like crap. It's not just the PSI that kills motors but the improper tuning.

Wow! Seems pretty cool lol I bought a 2007 Impreza 2.5i that was a previous project from a friend of mine. It's currently running a EJ253 short block with Ej205 heads, EJ205 harness, EJ205 manifold and a EJ205 ECU. It has a TD04 turbo with a COBB downpipe and NUR SPEC R exhaust. The car runs perfectly fine at 7 PSI. However, when I try adjusting the boost I get explosions from my exhaust. I would assume its because of the high compression ratio that the short block has. I replaced the spark plugs with some NGK Iridium 6 and still have the same problem. But, whatever car is pretty fast. My old 2003 WRX was running about 18 psi and was fun until I wrecked it 3 months ago. Keep us updated with your project and tell us what problems you ran into. But I would assume that you must change the harness and ECU to a turbo ECU in order to have the best results otherwise I think the car will run like shit. But blessings man nice video!!!!

I know it was a present but it was his mention of doing it that got him the headjobers so people you understand I am no way knocking his shit I just want people to know do a bit more homework and reaserch everything you can there are so many other parts on this car that he needs before even close to head suckers get gauges get A/F meter get coilovers strengthen your car and most of all enjoy doing the project because you have to soak up the good times as their is a shit load of hair pulling over something you either missed or something breaking because some part not strong enough for the other part it's a constant matching pairs game and people again DO YOUR HOMEWORK DONT GO BUY THE FIRST THING YOU SEE JUST BECAUSE YOU LIKE THE FEEL OF IT or it LOOKS HECTIC ........ @@dmwelds8960 no I don't know, sorry. I didn't even know they made a 1.5 engine in 2006. Is it JDM or euro? Mine is a 2.5 liter and yes it's still alive. I have never had it on a Dyno to truly know the HP but I would guess it's around 300.

Mechanic here, I have a Subaru and work mostly on them. This build isn't going to last and is going to be a giant headache. It's a fun idea, but not worth the troubles and time. Save your duckets and buy a wrx.

@zanechilson9306
@zanechilson9306 5 жыл бұрын
Muhammad Qassoum Na 2.5 headgaskets are already the downfall of that engine, add boost and you're asking for trouble. If you swap in some STI headgaskets or thicker ones to lower your compression, some arp headstuds, put some fuel to it and keep your boost SUPER LOW you'll be okay for a while. Build one of these Subaru eBay specials and you'll have a grenade under the hood. Save your money and get a wrx or do a wrx/sti drivetrain swap if you want reliable. eBay may be cheap to get to your house but it won't be when your running 2.5i suddenly decides it doesn't want to run at 12:1 compression anymore.

the upipe won't fit, wrx/sti/legacy came with a notch for the upipe to go up in the engine bay. Would have been ideal to get the header and upipe in two piece so u could fab the upipe to go around the crossmember, u can cut the crossmember as well and reinforce it if u want as well or get a wrx crossmember. Also u will need a bit more things than what u showed in the video to turbo it(that's if u have those already and didn't show them)
@GoldGuyRides

Chris Santos there’s no space to route it over the crossmember Would have to route it under if u don’t want to notch it or getting a wrx crossmember To make life easier u can use the NA header and make an upipe for it Less headache

Joe pap I have a 2008 Subaru Impreza hatchback not the WRX or sti even tho it looks like one with the hood scoop and rear wing but anyways it’s an automatic for one and I’m wondering if there is anything I can do to the stock engine or do I really need to do an engine swap?... like can I make the engine I have more stronger and powerful or is it to fragile cause I would love to make my engine bay look all pretty and have all kinds of power ( im looking for like 250HP to 300HP is my goal) but is that only possible with an engine swap?
@Snack592
@Snack592 6 жыл бұрын
Mike Fawc sadly if you are looking for that much power, i would recommend to just sell Yours and buy a turbo one.. and then you can go and cranck up the boost with supporting mods . The stock 2.5 cant handle power unless you put tens of Thousands $ in it . Sadly
@mikefawc22
@mikefawc22 6 жыл бұрын
Joe pap so it is possible then? I’m not really understanding why it would cost tens of thousands of dollars? What exactly would it take? I do realize buying one with a turbo or even an engine swap would be easier however I’m not really looking for the easy way out.. I just really am interested in learning from this I want to try and do as much as I can my self so I can learn and even if I could get it up to the 250HP I would be more then happy I’m just looking for a little extra power to have fun with lol are there any performance upgrades I can do to the engine block it’s self to make it stronger?

I don't see how This is gonna work? The Ecu on non turbo is totally differnet to the turbo ones. And thr non turbo ecu wouldent recognise any of this stuff. It's easier to just swap out the full engine for a turbo lump and new loom and ecu. £1000 from breakers
@festeezy
@festeezy 6 жыл бұрын
pretty sure the ecu automatically adjusts the AFR or it runs with wide enough parameters that it works. also most of these stock ECUs are tuneable. you only need a tune /piggyback once you go over 5-6 psi. you can turbo this motor for sub-$1000. good luck swapping in a ej205 ej207 or ej257 in for that price lmfaooo.
