In effect, he's gone through another interview process. Yes, they spoke to other managers. Ultimately, he must have impressed them more than others. Otherwise, he'd be gone. He deserves a season with a proper structure behind him and hopefully a fully fit squad for the majority of next season.

Rebuilds take time - Mikel Arteta at Arsenal has finished - 8th, 8th, 5th, 2nd, 2nd and improved along the way. Goldstein just wants to be right... Winning the League Cup and FA Cup means winning 4-6 games against Premier League opposition. In a season against Premier League opposition, Ten Hag finished 8th... I cannot name a single player Ten Hag has improved, and he splashed £80m on Antony. The only thing I can't argue against is that, on balance, Ten Hag is probably good enough to coach the 8th best team in England.
