Just wanted to send a huge thank you for this video. I was "the slice king" on the course before watching this! I came across this video the other day and was amazed as it was clear and concise on how to fix your driver swing. Today I was hitting bombs, all thanks to this info! I was averaging 260+ straight as an arrow. My best drive was on a Par 4 that was 275 yards out and I hit the green. Signing up for your course this week.

Great video sir! Love your approach. Pro tip: most weekend hacks also drink too much when they play, like a used to. I went from high 90’s to mid 80’s just by changing my grip from Budweiser to Gatorade. True story.

What an incredible couple of tips for a truly instant fix. My shot shape with driver is a fade but when I get tired I lose the swing thoughts and that can turn into a slice. I use a Sim 2 10.5 with a ventus black velocore 6x. It is a driver built for a big power fade. A real turbo booster but I love that tip of pointing the driver face down in the backswing. I also crank my sleeve up .5 degrees to slightly close the face and that is a tremendous advantage. But you are dead on the money about the open club face

Probably the best advice i have seen when it comes to a slice. My game has steadily gotten worse over last few years with my slice. I took this swing process to the range and saw immediate difference. Added yardage and can't wait to take it to the course. Try it. You will be amazed !

Eric, great pointers. Just recently realized my grip has been too weak, leaving 0 % chance for me to square the clubface at impact. My miss directed tee shots with the driver were unpredictable, sometimes, dead pulls, or sometimes slices. I will now pay attention,to keep the clubface slightly downward on the back swing. Pretty simple concepts ,which I ‘m sure will fix my slice. Thank you for your knowledge!

As a student of your "reverse slice sequence" I can honestly say there are so many more benefits of the course. Main advantage for me is that my iron play has drastically improved. Little to none slicing and straighter then I ever imagined. yes and the occasional draw but its nothing to worry about. As well my confidence to set up a draw is there if need be. The tools are all there. I still struggle with the driver. However the confidence is there that it is just a matter of time and all will be ok.

Just got back from the range, and was pleasantly surprised. On my setup, I went with the vee out to my right shoulder and it looked odd. It was so odd in fact, that I adjusted back to a slightly weaker grip. The result was a slice. I finally swallowed my pride and moved the vee out to my right shoulder and the difference was amazing. I would estimate that 80% of the remaining drives were straight. I will need to hit the range several more times before I'm 100% convinced, but for now I am super excited. Imagine how much easier golf will be, when I playing my second shot from the fairway instead of the forest. Thanks Eric!!!!

Thanks Eric, I generally have a slight fade on good drivers, however, this year I started slicing more and losing distance. Turning the wrist down was the trick. It felt weird at first, however, with range work and a few rounds it has changed a slice back to a slight fade. I've added at least 20 yards to the drive, and using the same setup for the woods and irons it has vastly improved my game and accuracy. I am at the point where it almost feels normal, however, still working on the timing, hip movement and shoulder turn...etc. At the point where I want to get to the course asap. M. Eric I used your advice on handle forward and up and I hit draws at times but I have one hole I pull pull pull. Can’t get off the tee. Because I come over the top. I can still carry 270 with this but it’s inconsistent in direction. Saw the backswing I have is in the perfect slot, but I come over the top on the down so I’m trying now to keep same setup but reverse the loop. Tried manipulate everything over the 2 and half years I’ve played and couldn’t hit a draw you’ve got me in that with accidentally finding that tip of yours.

Great instruction. I can't wait to try this because I recently "fixed" my slice by moving my right wrist further up over my left thumb (basically two Vs in opposite directions); it worked for a while but is really uncomfortable so I'm inconsistent. It definitely feels more natural to have the right wrist lower. Thank you :)

One other tip and I’ll stop blowing up the comments, because I’m not a pro. But I think we get in trouble with typical thinking of in to out. We whip it inside and that’s going make us come over the top. I haven’t used it yet but reverse loop would encourage the side bend that we don’t get either, meaning usually the path on the way back isn’t explained to us properly. It’s more out in out. The out to start the backswing I feel for me encourages depth/width that I wouldn’t get, then it comes in and gets more connected to me would encourage the trail side to start to tilt or get side bend. Then last part is just release to the right or out. Any thoughts on that?
@CogornoGolf
@CogornoGolf 2 жыл бұрын
The FEELs will really depend on WHERE the player is currently at. Going INSIDE or OUTSIDE on the way back ONLY MATTERS to the degree that it effects the downswing path.... Ive seen every combination under the sun and each present their own pros and cons Always checkin on video to confirm FEELS vs REALS key

Great tips. When I focus on feeling that the club face is pointing down I hit my FWs straight. If I don't feel it, it's a slice. I'm trying to teach my brother not to start his backswing by rotating his wrists with his driver because that opens his club face and he massively slices it. I've a hard time reaching him though. I'll show him this video and film him.

I was told I had a weak grip. But I was just an ex Baseball player having fun for the last 25 years. Didn’t much care to fix my slice. I Used to shoot anywhere from 87-95. Never got any better than that. The new grip is still very awkward and foreign to me. Some muscles are aching in wrists. But I have straightened out my drives more and sometimes 20-25 yards longer, Mostly down the left side to middle of the fairway with a draw. Rarely slice anymore. Which used to be a regular occurs for. Still working out the kinks. And I find myself having to force my self to think my way into the new grip. But I have added yardage to my drives. Sure makes it easier using a 7 or 8 iron than having to use my 5 or 6 iron. Shot an 85 first time out and did t really hit any putts. I find myself now improving shooting 84-90 on same courses. Haven’t really hit any putts yet. I have never broken 80 on a legit course. So now I got to figure out the putting.

@CogornoGolf
@CogornoGolf 9 ай бұрын
Hey! If you have a neutral grip and you still slice.....that means SOMETHING ELSE is causing your club face to be open to the path. Generally if not grip thats either 1. Wrist angles/release 2. Arm rotation I go over how to fix those in order here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nHS6aoqVoayEqq8&pp=ygUxRXJpYyBDb2dvcm5vICMxIHNraWxsIGNvbnNpc3RlbnRseSBjbG9zZSBjbHViZmFjZQ%3D%3D And this one goes through how you can start practicing it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/i6naZXWZd8SFkK8

Hoping you are still commenting here as I'm looking at joining your site. My main issue is I tend to close the club at the very top of the swing (last second before downswing). I've worked a long time on fixing this and have had some progress but the issue is I'm SO used to the club being closed at the top that I don't know how to release the club with my longer clubs so I tend to end up with my hands way in front at impact to hold the face open essentially. I had fixed the closed at the top issue at one point but still hit big low slices as I wasn't releasing the club. Is there anything else you recommend? I want to try the stronger grip with the v pointing more back and less forearm rotation in the backswing but I'm worried my issue is more about releasing the club/last second closing of the clubface at the top of the backswing.

Hey T P! Thanks for the message. Unfortunately I can't really make a specific suggestion for you without seeing your swing. I would be making too many guesses and assumptions... As you mentioned if you join www.cogornogolf.com we can put a plan together once we can see what's going on and discuss more... You would be looking at 1. Grip 2. Wrist angles 3. Arm rotation To the top to see the face alignment Then the same coming down to match whatever face alignment you have at top......and to whatever ball flight you want. Its all "fixable" but have to see

Hey Ashton! I would not change grip for different clubs. One grip for all clubs. Eric, I’ve had some success in hooding the club at address, however I have to listen to everyone tell me that I’m hooding the club when I occasionally pull one left. How is this any different than essentially rolling my wrist closed during take away like you recommend? I have a a simulator now and I’m convinced that most of my problems are club face alignment at impact. It can make it two Club difference with essentially what I think is the same swing. Appreciate any words of wisdom. Thanks

Eric, I swing out to in (I've seen it on video) but I don't slice particularly (more a gentle fade) - However I do think my swing delivers a glancing blow and robs me of distance. Should I try this any way? I'm guessing that if the club path is travelling across the ball and then then the ball goes straight the club face must be open?

Eric, everything you say here makes a lot of sense. The problem I am having is I can get the ball going straight with my driver when I am at the driving range because I can make the adjustments. On the tee box I still have a problem with the ball going way right or way left. Also, I am a senior and I have lost 50 to 60 yards on my drives and I have really started skying the ball (hit it really high and losing distance.) In other words my drives are all over the place. Any advice? Very frustrating..

Hey Dottie! Thanks for the message and question. Its a good question and I feel your pain! The reality is I cannot offer any good advice without seeing your swing on video. There are just too many variables that could be causing this. The good news is once you find the real root causes of the issues you should be able to fix this issue and hit on the course just as good on range. Join us at www.cogornogolf.com if you don't get it sorted out as you can send in your swings there for feedback and we can fix this for you!

Question, and I go back and forth on this a lot, but if you address the ball with a closed club face and take a neutral grip, is that the same as a normal address with a strong grip? Might help to grab a club to feel what I’m talking about, but if you were to take the neutral grip with closed club face and make the club sit normal at address your grip would become strong anyway, but neutral grip is much more comfortable, so curious about whether that’s a viable option.
@CogornoGolf

@@CogornoGolf I closed my clubface at address before gripping and it lets me lead with the driver handle and a squared clubface, and the ball goes dead straight. But, I’m wondering if it’s because I’m not letting my wrists release in time, and if I should go that way of a solution, instead of closing my clubface at address before gripping. What’s for sure, is strong grip is something I don’t ever want to change because I get way better power out of my swing. Nothing wrong with a fade imo. I used to play a cut as my primary shot, but have started playing both ways like I did at 16. I think path and face are key to either, but controlling them is usually a more complex task. Idk, but either way I don't think there's anything wrong with a fade, but you must play for it.

@@CogornoGolf Good points, but...I was using Watson as an example, not a model. My point was really to say that if it's consistently slicing 20 yards, and it's not all over the place, it's best to live with it, tee up on the right side of the teebox, aim left edge of the fairway, and play for it. People just aim straight, and go nuts trying to figure it out. In other words, if it slices 20 yards, but is consistently doing so, and it's not slicing one minute and pull hooking the next, then forget everything else and aim left.
