I would love to see tips and tricks on restoring wheels in that way, since I'd like to tackle such job myself one day. :) Whichever method you'll choose, I'll watch the video. :)

Great video, Memphis. Nice to see the strut tower braces make a difference. I was already thinking of that for the old Volvo. Seeing this, that will be happening along with other chassis upgrades once the body is restored to as new. 617,000 kilometers and 32 Ontario, Canada winters have taken a toll. Still, nice to see videos like this that inspire.

Funnily enough, also in Italy. I think that the only way that you can legally change tire size here is to get the measures approved by the manufacturer, fit the wheels, test them with a dmv supervisor and get that written into the registration book.

Knap werk !

Awesome mk1. I highly recommend getting the lower "k" style chassis brace for any mk1 (if you don't have one yet). It makes the biggest difference IMO. Even more than the top brace.

hey Memphis, love watching your videos. With regards to the wheels, please don't do it cheaply for our sake, YOU have the tools and skills available to make your car the best it can be for you, so I vote a proper sprayjob/restoration for the wheels with the spray gun and compressor. Do it right, do it once. Trying to remove spraypaint off a wheel later on will be a pain in the ass, I've had to do it a few times, and honestly just wished the previous owners left them in whatever state they were, best of luck, and keep up the good work.

Hey mate, I came accross your channel and so far I am loving it. Despite English is not your first language, and either is mine, I can fully understand you and your content is definitely genuine and hilarious, KZbin needs more car enthusiast like you. I may have the possibility to live in Germany, I am aware you are in Belgium, but I was curious to ask how much should I expect to pay for a Mk1 or Mk2 Golf with TUV and registration, considering that it drives but there may be some mechanical things to fix. I have looked on Mobile.de, Autoscout24 and Marketplace but I am a little bit lost in pricings. Now I am currently living in New Zealand, but Germany has always been a dream for me, and what better car to enjoy throughout Europe doing road trips than a Golf, I used to have a Mk3 1.8 GL that I still miss. Thanks in advance and sorry for asking so much. Keep up the content and stay true to yourself! Cheers!

If you are planning to go to more track days the mods you did are nice....but for the best bang for buck track gains just buy some more sport oriented tires. Unfortunatly for your stated tire size there isnt that much to choose from... I guess your best choise would be a Continental SportContact 2. Also brakes are good next step as you stated yourself.

You should restore them with spray can/clear coat, it's more relevant to the DIY'ers, concerning the overheating, you should upgrade the radiator, and cooling fans, you should be able to retrofit from a later golf MK2 or MK3, you might need to do the mounting hardware yourself, also change the thermostat with one that opens earlier, let's say 80 degrees Celsius instead of the more commong 87-88 C, the Aftermarket code for the one that opens at 80c on MAHLE is TX1380D
@nsmtbkid4 жыл бұрын
Hy! For overheating issues try a lower rated thermostat. I'm using a 80 C in mine and it works well. :) The radiator originally is a really effective one for a stock setup, but if you change for a 80c thermostat you will need a lower temp switch to your fan also. I prefer 86C. I can give you part numbers too if you want them. This is a really cost effective way to keep your coolant at the right temps in the hard times too. Cheers! :)
