I’ve ONLY watched your golf psychology videos in fact. 😊 We’re about the same age (53?) but I didn’t pick up the game until I was 27. There wasn’t any KZbin and golf tips back then… we just went out and played the game. I was single digit inside a year and fairly scratch inside 18 months. Growing the family and career ate up the past 24 years but with the last kid off to Uni and career well set, I’m back down to near scratch and competing in a national tour here in the States with solid play (4 wins in 6 events with a 4th and 2nd place too). All that to say this, equipment and swing mechanics only get you so far and in fact, obsessing on those things are what kept me stagnant at a 5-7 handicap up until about 6 months ago when I finally started diving into the mental and interpersonal side of the game and my scores dropped to where I am now able to shoot in the high 60’s with some regularity. So I say thank you for these vids and make more if you’re so inclined - I’ll definitely watch them and pass them around to my mates!

I am teaching my 18 year old son to get his head right when we venture onto the course. He worries about holding people up, mishitting the ball and so on. It can make it quite tricky to transfer the good things from the range to out on the course. These 3 videos were simple to understand yet the core of what it takes. Many thanks.

I had shoulder surgery and was away from the game for about 9 months. After about 10 rounds of golf, most of my physical skills game has returned, yet my mental game has not. Your Psychology Series has been a great reminder for me. An example of care-free play. I started a terrible round of golf this week. I was overthinking everything and couldn't do much correct. When I did make a good shot, it would be rewarded with a bad bounce or good putting strokes would lip out and not drop in the cup. I ended the front 9 with a 47. Knowing that this round of golf was going down the tubes quickly - I decided to focus on process and not give a flip on the outcome of my shots and strokes. You guessed it - I shot 2 over Par on the back 9 - 6 pars, 1 birdie, 1 bogey and 1 double (a mental relapse that drowned a ball on a short par 3). Thanks for the great mental reminders! I just subscribed - looking forward to following you.

The algorithm recommended this because I watched Nick Faldo's golf psychology vid. Nice series! Nice tips. I would add that what helps me when it matters: Not thinking about impact / hitting the ball. Just letting the ball get into the way of my swing while fully expecting a positive outcome. Bad outcome? No worries, this is an opportunity to get better in the sand, in the rough, drawing/fading it out of the trees, etc etc. Trouble shots are fun too and being good at them is what separates pros from most scratch golfers, so why stress when you get the chance to experience them? It's an opportunity.

My biggest struggle in golf is managing my expectations. I put so much pressure on myself on shooting a low score and I know how much bad golf shots impact my mindset. You got it all worked out there, be patient as it takes time to change your mindset. We're all going to hit bad shots in a round so just accept that and be content that you are doing everything in your control to hit the best shot you can one at a time. Thanks for taking the time to comment 👍

I think this is what I've been longing for, but never realised...we all say things like "it's not a ball game, it's a head game", but then do nothing about it, other than change our golf swing, change our putting technique, or even change our clubs! Why not change our mindset, and instead of talking about it, address it, and do something about it. I love the simplicity of this information, because it makes it easy to remember, and therefore, take it onto the golf course with you. Thankyou so much, this could be a game changer...I can't wait to get back out there! Brilliant.

Just played in the club championship where I’m a member. I’m an 11, and have the ability to hit some great shots. But, playing in competition exposed the weakness of my mental game. I play quickly when I play- often during the week and less than 3 hours for sure. Tournament rounds took close to 5 hours and challenged me more than I anticipated. My game is often related to pace and I definitely want a specific outcome… without a consistent process I came undone both days. These videos were great!

Hi, I been playing for 5.5 years and now a 15 handicap. I totally understand the 3 videos as I am a pilot and learning to teach pilots. Mental approach to anything is key to success. To be honest yesterday I was playing with a close friend and we were laughing and enjoying ourselves and OMG I hit some fantastic golf shots on a course I don't like. One of my best shots was a 205 yard shot to the centre of a green on a Par3 and I hit the flag and it went into the sand. I just got my 60 degree wedge and came out for 1 and 2 putt for bogie. We anilised the hole and move right onto the next laughing. Boom next was a Par 5 and I made Par. On the last hole a Par 4 I hit the driver, then we started to laugh about a joke and then I took my 3 iron and blaster it on the green. As you said free up the mind and the results willlllllllllll happen. Tomorrow I have a pilot golf competition and will try out your competition routine. Thanks for the videos and yes I've subscribed. Best wishes Cordell

Simple but so true. I'm senior golfer with good golf technique (not perfect) and it seems that no matter how much practice I put in, or looking back at my instruction videos (had a chance to go to Chuck Cook's school with him as an instructor) , I always repeat the same pattern, and then attibute the results to a faulty technical problem. I am sure your 3 videos will help getting me back rapidly on where I want to be . The solution is right there, in your simple videos. Of course, practice is important, but hitting balls and playing golf are two differnt things.

Enjoying the series. The mental game is so important. The pre game, pre shot and execution routine is just so critical to playing at your best level on any given day. Positive thoughts and processes will always make for a better outcome. Practice it till it is unconscious. Be the ball. Staying in your routine and blocking out the bad influences (weather, your partner’s issues, that last hole,etc) is for me the biggest key to better enjoyment and a lower score at the ending.

These are probably the most useful tips you can get for golf. Having had a a dip in my playing performance I’ve been hooked on technique and searching for the perfect swing, absolutely hopeless. I’m tight, emotional and stuck inside my head. I’ve forgotten how to play golf and allowing myself to swing and instead have tried to be a robot. My head is full of thoughts and I’ve stopped playing the game. I’ll listen to this advice and allow myself to stick to my focus of a good setup a clear mind with good visualisation and most importantly accepting the outcome. Highly recommend this series, thank you.

Sent these to a friend that struggles with... Himself. As I always say "learn you". Only then can you become a better golfer. Started doing this years ago before I watched these. I rarely practice... Like driving range practice. I chip a good bit and lag putt. If I struggled with one club, I think on it before wasting time hitting it. In the past 3 years I can count on one hand the number of times I shot out of the 70s and most of them have been in the 60s 😉. Free that mind up. Have fun. This game is about fun not frustration.

So glad you liked the series Jean.. I was born in Joburg, love to play in SA one day as I was too young when we came back to the UK to remember it. My dad has told me about all the courses he played out there..

Thanks very much. I’m 58 and I have just started playing comp. I get very anxious and tense and I can’t play to my full potential. I’m going to try these techniques and see how I go. It’s probably the best advice I have been given.
@ScratchAt505 ай бұрын
Thanks for the comment Andrew. Remember anxiety comes from worrying about the outcome. Just concentrate on executing your process, routine and committing to the shot 👍

I'm entering the offseason with a renewed focus on process. I had a really tough 2022 season. I struggled to stay in the moment, and at times felt like giving up golf. I've played for 40 years. I've played good golf and I've had times of panic, anxiety and fear. I'm looking forward to rebounding and enjoying the game I love. Thank you for this video series.

I have the capability of a scratch golfer, truly (34 now and played high school golf and have played with my dad since 5). But I'm sitting at a 9 handicap because my mental game is all over the place and it ripples through my game. These 3 videos are so sound. Thank you

Thanks for the comment. Nail in your routine and stick to the process. If you have the game to be better then you just have to get out of your way and let that happen. Good luck with it 👍

Put this into practice and sprinkle in a bit of proper course management & you'll be there! Speaking from experience, you have a leg up already by recognizing this. This is the very thing that helped me get from a single digit to scratch. Also practicing in a way that builds confidence is very key. For example, it does no good to practice 30 ft putts for an hour. Seeing countless putts miss the hole does no good for anybody.

Fantastic series! Best golf tip videos on KZbin by far. Swing videos are stupid because a golf swing is common sense unless you are super unathletic then no video will help. Golf psychology is the real power tip!

Good advice. I've definitely played my best golf with a 'quiet' mind. Not always easy to enter that mental state with busy lives though.
@ScratchAt502 жыл бұрын
Glad you liked it.. Yes that perfect quiet mental state is amazing when you are in it and the game seems so simple. Ball, Target, Hit It's what we strive for in every round..

These suggestions and mindsets are greatly appreciated. I will be working hard to incorporate them into my rounds this summer. I for one spend far to much time analyzing every move and outcome rather than enjoying my time on the course with my friends. I love the quote about not being careless but caring less. That will become a part of my preshot routine. Thanks again.

I've subscribed now, I'm read Dr. Bob but your lessons solidified the teaching. Disc golf is far easier than golf but the competitive element is the same. I'm so much more committed and carefree. Thank you for putting this out there.

Hello, I wanted to take a min to thank you for this series. I am currently an 11 handicap and just joined my first golf league this season. We are about 10 weeks in and I am carrying a 10 handicap for 9 holes. Anytime I play outside of the league I do just fine. I usually hit my number or better. Over the past number of weeks I have dreaded playing in the league and my wife and kids can attest to the bad mood it puts me in. I've STRUGGLED to figure out what I was doing wrong. Last week I shot my worst 9 hole round in the last 20 years. Desperate to figure it out, I started researching the mental aspect of the game and came across these videos. I watched them over and over the last week leading up to my league play. Well, they worked. I shot a 2 over 37 and I could've easily saved 3 more strokes if I "committed" to my putting stroke. I know this is a mental game. I talk about it all the time, but I have failed to understand it. Watching this series not only helped me realize that I'm not the only one that struggles with this, but it breaks things down in a way that is easily digestible. Thank you again. I've subscribed and I've shared this series with many of my friends. Hopefully with practice and a clear mind I can reach my goal of having a single digit handicap. Cheers!

These videos have been EXTREMELY helpful and I’m going to start working on my mental game using your advice. I have a tendency to “circle the drain” so to speak when I play poorly and it’s difficult to recover. Using your advice I feel it will help me to recover more gracefully. Thank you for the sagely wisdom!

Good series. Right to be proud of this sort of content. Sadly, most golfers are shallow and most interested in hitting long with every club and little else. Little wonder handicaps have stagnated for decades despite all these technology advances. Clubs manufactured today have generally never had longer shafts and stronger lofts. All just to sell distance. To escape from those chains is to elevate as a golfer. Keep it up!

these are amazing, thank you. I struggle with this more than you know. I can shoot 72 then turn around and shoot 85 next day. All because of emotion and losing control on the course. Will revert to tinkering on the course to try and fix my problem. It is really between my ears. thanks Can't wait to put into practice!!

Very good advice and tips for more success and contentment on the golf course. I believe it was Ben Hogan who said, 70% of the game is in the head. So it makes sense to work on this aspect of golf besides hitting balls in the practice area. Thank you very much.
