Thanks Andrew. That’s a really helpful thought process. I’ve been working on what’s often referred to as “Hogan’s Magic Elbow”, which has been paying enormous dividends on the quality and consistency of strike and dispersion. Much improved, not quite 100%, but getting there. What you’re teaching here ties in nicely with what I’ve been successfully working on, and I can’t wait to get down to the club to try to blend it all together. The problem is, I’m not looking out at Mount Pleasant, SC, on a lovely spring morning. It’s cold in England in March! I can always work on your practice drills in the kitchen. I doubt my wife would be at all surprised or perturbed. I always enjoy your excellent videos. Keep up the good work. And, thank you.

Hey Andrew. I thought I would share some thoughts that I have had since I starter your swing process. The first thought that I have is wow, that was fast and I barley swung the club. Something I have been working very hard to swing faster, but getting no where. Second thought is man was that compressed. You know, that kick you get in the club head, so satisfying!. Another that I don't see talked about. My shots during practice are landing on top of each other, very consistent strikes. The last and maybe one of my favorite. I can go at my target or even right of it. With my over the top swing I had figured how to get the club face closed so I was not hitting weak shots to the right or slices. But that swing would start at my target and go left. My son would tell me I am aiming right but my shots would go left. The more I aimed right to try and fix this, the more over the top my swing would get because my body knew I was aimed too far right. Today was the first day with your swing that I felt that I was hitting the ball with my back to the target. Man did that feel good!!!. I am sure I have a long way to go but I have not been this excited about my swing in a long time. Thank you so much for this channel!!!

Yes! Spot on. So few instructors get this. Mike Malasaka, you, Marcus Edblad. Of course positions can be observed. The real question is why do they show up. Hands and arms are the cause, the effect is the position of the lower body. The axe metaphor is gold. Ever since I stopped trying to hit positions and focussed on the hands I am hitting the ball so much better. Thank you Andrew
@AndrewEmeryGolf9 ай бұрын
You’re welcome Michael. The “Feel Sequence” is fascinating to me! Arms swing the Axe yet the body is perfectly engaged kinematically. Try leading with the body and so often the sequence is broken!! What a crazy game! Best, A. 🏌️♂️⛳️🙏🏻

Instruction is so frustrating now. Performance Golf is hyping a instructor. She advocates turning the arms off to create effortless power/speed. She swings a towel then a rope to illustrate this. This is the Dr. Kwon rope drill designed to sync the arms and body with ground forces to create efficiency, speed, and power, which I agree with. But speed is still generated by the arms and hands while the body is the ignitor that gets out of the way down the chain. My point is every instructor is teaching something different, ultimately confusing golfers.@@AndrewEmeryGolf

Salient points! My students are my teachers - everything I teach is based on what I’ve experienced teaching! No theories or method coaching. I ’ve always felt that the best instructor in the world is the golf ball!! That tells me all I need to know. Bottom line - it’s up to us as coaches to find what works best for YOU!! Rather than you having to subscribe to a method I’ve always felt compelled to meet my students where they are when I’m coaching! Thanks for the comment! Best, A. ⛳️🏌️♂️🙏🏻

I’m so happy that a respected instructor is talking about the swing like this. I huge factor, in my opinion to get the body in lots of good positions that show up nice on video and to get there dynamically is you need to have intention to release the club after the ball. Soon as my intention changes by body goes into better positions. No early extension, no over the top. From there you can work on adding more body if more speed is wanted. The body is what everyone is talking about but that’s just a bonus on top of the arms and hands. Cam champ has the fastest club speed on tour, coincidentally fastest arm and hand speed too. Nice vid.

Very good Andrew- All of this works for me. Especially staying closed and not spinning out. That’s where the over the top move, where the slicers are swinging outside to in across the ball, rather then in to out, that creates a draw…. I see it all the time on the range….

Great explanation of the problems created by mainline golf tuition for the past 30 years or so for the vast majority of amatuers. I.e ' Get the body and legs right, using the big muscles, and the hands and arms will take care of them selves'. Imo this has led to a whole generation of amateurs, myself included, with too passive hands and arms that are too late to the ball at impact compared to where the body is. Your lessons are definitely improving things. I have found the trick is to activate the arms without a corresponding speeding up of the body.

A few days ago I began to notice my right shoulder intruding into the space for my arms, with ruinous effect...so I started trying to move the arms/club while immobilizing that pesky shoulder..back and forth, back and forth with speed...and I ended up doing this exercise! thanks for confirming my impulse Andrew. Quite like your new " studio" and as always highly enjoy your way of explaining these complex subjects.

Wonderful insight and to the point. Many golf videos suggest starting the downswing with a more passive gravity fed movement, but this limits a loss of potential acceleration. Your comments about a strong and early use of your trail arm in the downswing was excellent! Like Moe Norman said, he wished he had 3 right arms! The increase in club head speed is amazing! I can't wait to play my next round and see how well I can harness the power! Thank you for this epiphany!!! Edison

I recently found the channel and I’m really glad I did! Thanks, Andrew. The idea of swinging the arms feels much more natural for me. I have a quick question: I’m left-handed but right-handed in most activities. However, because of my ice hockey background, I play golf left-handed. When releasing the club using an arm swing, should I focus more on the left arm to work underneath, or is it more about both arms? I notice less tension when I mostly release with my left arm. Thanks!

Hi Jean! Trail wrist down is ideal for compression and negating dynamic loft! It’s also required for those that have more neutral grips! It should be noted that there are multiple release patterns, it’s not a one size fits all. Different grips require different releases. I’ve been collaborating with Hack Motion Golf. Would highly recommend you read there research on wrist mechanics, it’s great stuff!! Best, Coach A. ⛳️🏌️♂️🙏🏻⬇️ hackmotion.com

so Andrew...if I am to change the direction of the clubs handle when it is just about down to the point of my right hip to create angular momentum, at what point should my brain tell my hands to do/allow this move because I fear if I wait until that point I am behind the curve as it takes some milliseconds for the instruction to be received by my hands...I like the move and it is obvious that the great ball strikers do this but the "how" and the "when" is been revealed by anybody that I have run into...thanks, Bruce

Andrew, I used to subscribe to a golf instruction site where the main swing thoughts etc. were all body related. Hardly anything about the arms and hands. Eventually, I took a step back and started thinking to myself that there has to be a better way. Get the arms moving is a mantra I tell myself over and over again. A question I have in regards to the left arm in the downswing. Some touring pros have a bent left arm at impact. Is this just a product of things they are doing well b4 impact? Anyways, thanks in advance as always. Also, we corresponded though email about online lessons and I still plan to take some with you. Unfortunately, life has gotten in the way for me right now, but as soon as things quiet down I will definitely shoot my swings over to you. 👍 🤘
