I've been doing this on the range recently, and the results are excellent. I'm 62 with plenty of body ailments, but I tend to fire my lower body too much and too quickly, resulting in early extension. By swinging arms and hands with more authority, while keeping my lower body "quiet," my hands don't get trapped behind me. This prevents my right foot from elevating too quickly in the downswing, which, in turn, prevents early extension. This is a fantastic lesson, particularly if you're overusing your lower body. And, dont worry, your body will turn naturally and be in a much better position at impact. It's easy. I encourage you to give it a try!

Probably the best swing lesson ever on KZbin. Teaching the swing broke down in actions and then adding the body should increase every golfers speed and create an anti slice path. The most difficult issue in teaching someone is how the club head turns in the swing. It also reenforces trusting the swing opposed to guiding it down the target with an open face which leads to weak high right shots. I recommend everyone take this to the range before a round of golf. Kudos Eric. You not only understand the swing, you can relate the swing to the average person.

I'm 48. One year into this crazy game. The other day on the driving range, a guy who is older than me asked if he could offer me some tips. He suggested I was maybe attempting to use too much body, not enough flinging of the arms. He complemented my hand-eye coordination, and said to just go for it with a bit more arm - just fling that sucker as I get to the bottom of the swing (I was out of balls, so I had to wait until the next time). The next time I was at the driving range (yesterday), I focused on a nice controlled backswing using my whole body, then just "flung" away on the downswing. Yesterday was my best day ever at the driving range. Great video! (Not all of us are going to be tour players, and could probably be a little more realistic about the type of swing we're working toward). This video is basically a perfect reference / guide for me. Thank you!!!

To be honest, I think this is one of the most essential lessons about the golf swing in general. Everywhere you turn it’s “swing with the body” “quiet arms and hands” but just with this information, I feel that I can make decent contact no matter how my body is moving that day.

Eric, I have been using this exact swing my whole life. I am a little guy, in my 60's, and I can hit it almost as far as I did when I was a young 30 something! I learned this swing in 1972, and I will always be grateful to Ron, the teaching pro at Deerpath GC in Lake Forest Illinois. The first thing that he showed me was that I hit the ball with just a slinging motion of my arms and hands while my feet were together. This was my introduction to the golf swing. Although I have never been a scratch golfer, my handicap has never been higher than five for fifty years, with no golf injuries! I believe it is because I learned to swing the club in the way you have described in this wonderful video. I would like to add that Harvey Penick also taught a "magic move' the echoes what you are teaching here.
@CogornoGolf3 жыл бұрын
Love it, Zack! ITs a really good way to get started as you mentioned and something we often lose site of trying to get all the body motions correct!
@rm00k3 жыл бұрын
Harvey's magic move didn't have anything to do with slinging the arms, more a simultaneous movement of the weight onto the forward leg and bringing the trail elbow to the side. Still, a good support of the slinging of the arms.

Anatomical question for you Eric (maybe subject matter for a video) - I am long-limbed short torso, medium height. Would that favor a draw or fade stock shot. Hey Eric. Great job on these videos. I love your channel! So being "almost" a senior, turning on the backswing seems a little more restricted than it could be. So I was in the back yard today with some practice balls and a 4 iron. I know 4 iron can be a tough club to hit for some. So when I was hitting it really well, that was a good sign. So here's what I did. I took my normal setup. Next I drew the right foot (back foot) back to close the stance. I brought the club back inside the line as the closed stance allowed me to do (and makes it a lot easier). Then I discovered something. And I'm wondering if this is related to Hogan's comment where he said he wished he had 3 right hands..... So with the closed stance I found I couldn't turn fast enough in the downswing and my body literally couldn't "go left". In other words no matter how fast I turned, when I turned, my body "faced" the target at the end of a balanced follow through. I could not face left of target if I tried... physically. So I found that I was not only hitting the ball straight and solid, but I could turn as fast as I wanted and really "thrash" the ball and it was being hit real solid. The turn was the kind that swept the grass real nice and along the target line. So if I didn't "turn hard", I think my shots would have gone to the right. And this is where I was wondering how so many seniors have ugly looking swings but they hit the ball 250 down the middle.. they all turn hard. Maybe the closed stance was getting my backswing into an ideal "backswing slot"??? Your thoughts?

Thanks Eric. Malaska teaches to slow the body by keeping the right heel on the ground through impact (I’m sure you know) but I like this better. Since the body should act like a break allowing the hands and arms to whip through impact, your method mimics that. I have also begun to feel as if I am pulling the club down through impact while doing this and it feels like much faster club movement.

Great video. So, the longer the club, the more hand speed is required, given the same amount of body rotation? i.e. The wedges require mostly body rotation and less arm speed because its the shortest club, and drivers require the most hand speed with body rotation because they are the longest?
@CogornoGolf2 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure I would look at it that way...
@tomeldridge29153 жыл бұрын
Eric, before I “knew how to play” the club would sometimes hit me in the back on my follow through. I was never sure where the ball would end up but I was hitting rockets. Now that I have “learned how to play”, as in using my body to generate speed my finish is much shorter and so is the distance achieved. Sling is the operative word. Master the static positions, get a good grip then sling that damned thing.

I go back and forth on this alot. I hook the ball and one of the ways I prevent that is with a body swing that the arms are just along for the ride. Wanting to experiment with more of a slinging feeling where centrifugal force is slinging the arms through impact. I know that isn't what you are talking about here but this really seems to exaggerate the hook for me.
@CogornoGolf Жыл бұрын
100%.....this would exaggerate the hook for sure. But to keep in mind for this message and who it's for... 80% or more of the senior golfers we work with struggle with a fade miss. So they want LESS FADE....(more hook)....and more distance. So for them the sling the arms is good ya know If you already hook you would want less or this and more body......or......you could still feel the arms but add in more body with it. So it doesn't have to be one or the other....can be some amount of both

Thank God for this!! Golf instruction can be very misleading on YT. What is being taught is usually about body and hip turning explosively towards the target and exiting left with quiet arms etc . This is just wrong for amatuers and is mostly applicable to elite younger golfers with high arm and clubhead speed. For 90% of us we need to use our arms more and body less

Body follows? Or can the body help sling the hands and arms?
@CogornoGolf2 жыл бұрын
Hey Linda! Absolutely it can! This is an exaggerated FEEL to help with getting our arms and hands to create more speed for us👊 Here is our Slingshot Drill video you may enjoy checking out! kzbin.info/www/bejne/eKvdp4iZaMtmebs Appreciate you watching the channel!

Yep this is what I call the old man swing! It works with far less strain on the body. Get a lot of roll with the draw pattern.

how quick do you start releasing the toe of the club?
@CogornoGolf11 ай бұрын
Hey Leslie! Great question. There can be a FEEL here and a REAL. when you do FEEL it vs when does it REALLY happen.... And those often aren't the same. Really depends on the player This may help clarify: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hWe4lKqqorR5psk&pp=ygUaRXJpYyBDb2dvcm5vIHRocm93IHZzIGZsaXA%3D

Eric, I've been doing this for about 6 months and it works great. I am currently a 4.5 index. I sometimes over draw or pull it. I will close up my stance and weaken my grip a bit to compensate. Do you agree with that fix?
@CogornoGolf3 жыл бұрын
Hey Craig! Yes---or aim right and play it!
@jawjuh10053 жыл бұрын
Hi. Not sure if this will help but I find if my front arm breaks down I get the hooks. I try to feel my front arm straight and extended through and past impact. Straightens ball flight immediately for me.

Eric..do you feel like it’s an equal pull with the left, slap with the right hand or more one than the other? Thx for the video!
@CogornoGolf3 жыл бұрын
Hey Travis! That is a hard one. There will be a measured "REAL" answer here And there will be a "FEEL" answer here. What someone FEELS can be so many different variations depending on what they currently do, when they do it and how much they do it. I personally have NEVER felt PULL with left

Eric, Just revisited this video. I’m ok on step on and two….but when I try to turn body through (facing target) I manage to cut across the ball (OTT). Any suggestions on how to avoid this?? Thank you.

Outstanding content and presentation from you and your film crew. Please give us some Eric knowledge on controlling the club face. 4 degree outward path and the club face closed to the path ….that difference is too small to see. But there has to be a way to measure and to do it consistently. Thank you.
@CogornoGolf3 жыл бұрын
Hey Jaey! Thank you! Maybe some more on that in future videos.. Hard to control the club face to a DEGREE....but NOT THAT HARD to make sure the face is on one side of the path consistently (open or closed a few degrees) More on this in a future video perhaps!

Isn't it true that slinging the arms is an essential part of all good full swings? In my own swing, I find slinging my arms really hard to do consistently because I end up trying to hit the ball with my shoulders. Thank for giving us a drill for slinging the arms properly.
@CogornoGolf3 жыл бұрын
Hey Robert! Yes! The arms MUST "sling" eventually. The timing of that and degree depends some by about 45* past impact to target is where you SEE the arms slinging generally (depends on the body movements)

Love this one! At 6'4" and 54 years old, I have problems getting my body into modern swing positions, and trying to do so seems to slow my swing speeds. This feels much more repeatable and has added a few yards back to my carry distance.

That's incredible! I'm 74. If I hit a 7 iron with "all arms" it would barely make 110 yards. Full swing, with body rotation : carry would be less than 125 yards. Old age sucks!

Natural - Are hip and back pains if you are not the trained Athlete you are supposed to be. Baffling - I can only find comments “out of line”. Eric - Thank you for motivating a “loose approach” to Natural body motion rather than the ever repeated “mechanical motion follow up order to gain more speed” sort of instructions.

@@CogornoGolf Hi Eric, I got fitted for a new driver today, Swinging about 95 to 97 mph. Hitting 240-250 yard carry with 270 - 280+ yards total with the right driver and shaft fitting. Went from the Cobra SZ to Titleist tsi 3 with Hazardous smoke shaft . Very forgiving driver for my heel hits.

I think your arms+hands is my normal (bad) swing. The arms+hands+"all arms through" a the very end of the video looks like a perfect swing to me. What is missing from your normal swing?
@CogornoGolf2 жыл бұрын
Hey Dale! Just that extra bit of speed produced from the "all arms and hands" feel👊
@d2053-b6m2 жыл бұрын
I mean, that last swing is still not your normal swing, but it looks perfect. arms+hands+through". If not an "older" golfer, would that swing look different?

Good drills but I dont know man...I took the lower motion out of my swing the past 2 years to save my left hip. But it led to a loss of accuracy. So, I just went back to my old swing (Trevino clear the left hip style OUCH) but I've broke 80 my past 4 rounds and it doesn't hurt anymore ! ( so much :) I do believe that 2 years of the wooden no(less) motion swing bought me some time tho' ... see how long my old ' young ' swing lasts now :) oh, I'm 61
