Thanks Eric. I am a 5 handicapper and have always struggled during rounds hitting occasional bad shots until I saw this video. No one has ever isolated this as a swing fault and I have had plenty of teachers look at my swing. So I practiced these drills before my round today and I was hitting nothing but lasers today on the course and almost a hole in one from165. It’s amazing how one simple fix changes the entire swing. This guy is a very good instructor. I love how he give examples that are clear and easy to understand for even beginner's. I just found him and watched a couple of his video's. Went to driving range and was more consistent, gain yards with all my clubs. Hubby was watching me and he was said he was so impressed at my improvements. I am a brand new to golf beginner and i was straight and 150 to 200 yards with my 4, 5 and 6 iron. I am addicted!

Eric it is amazing how I see all the things I've "in-done" thru the years because of lack of Knowledge. I see a great future for you with the simplicity in which u keep everything. Thanks alot. To say, "Sometimes one has to correct a something in the grip, takeaway, or setup" to fix the effects that one is having just got me so charged up again. I hit a brick wall after a scramble tourney but now I see what happen. So to all those people like me who people always say, " Hey, u have a beautiful, golf swing." But r very inconsistent. This is a fantastic video and explains exactly what causes the club to go behind. For me the mention of forearm rotation is like a lightbulb moment. Other videos focus on keeping back of hand flat/pointing wrist watch to the ground/don't roll the wrists. All of these issues are caused by rolling the forearm. After all out of the wrist and hand the forearm IS the bigger muscle. So thanks Eric you've nailed it for me. Big thumbs up

Eric, after watching your video, I have been trying to apply this lesson to my swing as I know I have been taking my club way too far away from my body which always leaves my trying to fight the inevitable slice that is going to happen. I just couldn't figure out why. When I keep my arms connected, I am hitting straighter, more solid and a s__t-ton further. Some guys in my group just look at some of my drives and 'where did you get all of that distance?" and I tell them about your video. This has truly been a game changer. I just turned 70, I play with a 40-50 age group (12 of them) and I'm not as long as a couple of them but I am always competitive. My handicap last year was a 14. It is presently a 9.3 and I the confidence I am gaining with my driver will only get it even lower. Thanks for 2 amazingly simple and well explained and demonstrated tips!

Hi Eric. Had to comment here after watching this and your other video, 'Shallow your Down Swing'. I mentioned your point about the left hand pointing down on the take away on that video. I had watched this video first, and want to say holding the alignment rod work perfect. It put me in the address position perfectly. But it was not until I put the two together that I really made a huge leap forward. Your comment of "equal and opposite" really resonated with me. Two really great videos. So, thanks!

Your drill helps a lot! I worked on my backswing today with the tee drill and it has helped a lot. Before, i was rolling my forearm in teh takeaway and the club was coming inside a little too much. The good thing about this drill is, that your left shoulder drops the right way (in the angle of the spine) for a perfect swingplane. When you roll the forearms in the takeaway, the shoulder is on a wrong plane, the turn is almost horizontal and that screws up your whole swing. Very effective drill!!!

Very good info. I’ve struggled and struggled with taking it inside. My hands don’t push away as much as you show but the left arm rotation was getting me. Seeing how the hands need to stay close has helped me nail the takeaway. It feels weird but so far worked great. To add though, I’m also not cocking my wrists early enough so I also have to get the feeling that I cock them by the time my hands are hip high. Thanks for awesome video!

Eric, I just discovered your channel. I enjoy watching your lessons with juniors. You have a gift for positively and effectively communicating with young people. One question regarding the takeaway; is it the same with a strong grip versus a neutral grip?
@CogornoGolf6 жыл бұрын
Appreciate the kind words. Same basic idea, strong grip will have a tendency for more forearm rotation which gets the clubhead inside of the hands a bit more but that's okay. Some coaches would call that an "under" vs "over" pattern. Other than that same stuff

@CogornoGolf6 жыл бұрын
Not sure...that wouldnt be something I would expect. If you're hitting it shorter than normal you would look mainly at 1. Clubhead speed 2. Dynamic loft Assuming you are hitting it in the middle of the face. Would this move cause you to swing it slower? Would this move cause you to add loft? More than likely it would be a dynamic loft problem. I would start there. How to fix? Lots of ways, depends on why its happening I would have to see

I do a minimum disconnected takeaway in chip and pitch which causes the club to stand a little more upright (I can see that in videos with a line drawed through the shaft) during impact and causes toe hits. (Impact tape shows me and video as well). I thought always, that I pull my left arm back during impact and that causes the toe hits. I hope this drill helps.

Hi eric, I've been working on this takeaway plan and videoing it. My only problem is my club face open at club parallel. I'm thinking it's my week trip. Gonna try stronger grip like you suggested in wrist conditions video, thx

Yes-get that face fixed. Grip, wrist conditions or forearm rotation!

When you think and feel like you’ve taken it in far enough but keep hitting bad shots there is a strong chance you aren’t taking it in far enough until you do a drill like this. Kudos for a great vid!

Thanks, Will. Appreciate it!

Great lesson Eric thanks for your time and expertise. I grind a small point on one end of my alignment stick and then I can insert it through the end of the grip like you did with the tee. It facilitates proper grip and is not as clumsy. Thanks again

I do that too!

Interesting, seems to be a possibility I may need to look into, been trying all types of take aways to fix my hook, I'm a little steep on down swing, anything else I may need to explore with that takeaway tip?? Thnxs, I'll start browsing your other videos!!

Would have to see your swing to say for sure. If you're steep on the way down you want to avoid hands out and roll in takeaway and you want to avoid shaft too horizontal in backswing, shaft more vertical would be ideal

Hi Eric, cracking video, realised after watching this that the distance between my hands and legs was excessive. Would this drill be the same for the driver? Big thanks keep up the good work John

I use to have a decent takeaway but it has turned much more handsy now. Will use these drills. Thank you!

This tip has def helped me strike my irons better. I'm a 14 handicap so i don't typically make pure contact. I am struggling to use this tip with the driver though. I'm still trying though but its more difficult for me with the driver

Don't have to use it for all clubs if you dont want
