Andy had talked about these types of Pete drills before, and if they don’t work for you like they didn’t for me, hit up Andy on skillest. He saw something in my swing that we fixed first that then made the Pete stuff work. The more personalized zoom on skillest worked well for me.

It might just be me and my simple chimp brain, but I must have watched dozens of Pete Cowen videos and I can never understand what he means by what he says. He talks about 'loading the shoulders' and 'natural forces' and 'downward pressure with the hands', but he might as well say 'smell the colour purple' or 'feel what square sounds like'. I always better understand watching other people explain his ideas. I guess it's at least partially deliberate or else why would anyone pay for a lesson with him when it's all on KZbin? Must have watched James Robinson's lesson a hundred times and still none the wiser what is meant by 'load the shoulders for a fade/draw'...
@mikebarnard2689
@mikebarnard2689 2 жыл бұрын
From a fellow chimp, yes, loading is an unfortunate word, I guess it’s got to mean a feeling of pressure or strain. Imagine saying to Pete… “ hey Pete , could you actually quit all this confusing pyramid, spiral staircase, axe, loading chat and speak normally” How scary would that be 😀😱

He can’t make you feel what you need to feel it’s a progressive change that helps you to get the feel over time and practise. I’m battling with spinning the forearm down and keeping the wrist angle. So hard….
@ReSourceEnergetics
@ReSourceEnergetics 7 ай бұрын
@@stephenbrown8018spinning is an unfortunate word. He just means pivoting it down. At shoulder height, the trail hand points away from target. When you pivot down, the fore arm doesn’t rotate it just straightens (palm is still away from target). Then your body pivot moves the bottom forward so you can apply pressure. So in essence it spins down without rotating towards target. Tricky terminology. I had to watch ten different videos to figure that out…. But once you understand it, watch out!

WOW! lower then turn. And amateurs turn then lower. SO TRUE! I just discovered how I was making this mistake. I was hitting weak irons with slices, lots of fat shots. Now I think at the top of the backswing drop your arms instead of lashing out at the ball by turning my shoulders at it. HUGE DIFFERENCE!

We've got .08 of a second from club parallel to impact, so we obviously can't consciously 'wait' till then to turn. I can do Rory's drill all day and get the 'feel', but when I go to hit the ball I'm back with my old 'patterns' (as Tiger would say!) How do you translate the feel of the Rory drill into the proper swing...deliberately hold the hips back from turning?

From what i have seen of PC, this move is inititiated by the left shoulder muscle dropping, not by pulling the hands down. (imho) Its the depth and and direction of the left shoulder (downswing) that is used to shape the ball. least that's how i understood it. there is also another video out there of PC giving another youtuber a lesson on the exact same thing
@andycartergolf

He talks about loading the shoulders and using this the initiate the downswing. But pulling the hands down also releases the loading of the shoulders down. I deliver the lessons in a way for amateur golfers to understand.

Pete Cowen knows so much about golf… it’s a shame he uses words that don’t translate so easily into swing lessons to many of us. You used the phrase turn the hips and I’ve heard so many state the hips DON’T turn but rather move backward and foward. When watching your tip of getting the arm back down before turning I wonder if you want us to get the weight back on to the lead foot first. You are lucky enough to be talented in golf like Rory you dress alike and probably hit the same kind of ball. Damn you might just be the non Irish Rory in disguise. Liked your video in general. The Pete Cowen comment was a bit tongue in cheek!

It’s my feel but not by 1st lowering the arm or pulling with the arms or hands. Once you’re set into your forward pivotal axis the the core and hips start the downswing and the arms go along for the ride. Otherwise you will impart an external force that will require some sort of compensation. I think you are doing that but the explanation needs some fine tuning. Good stuff though. I’ve been teaching for over 20 yrs and competed at the mini tour level back in the 90’s.
@andycartergolf
@andycartergolf Жыл бұрын
Amateur golfers need a feel. Setting hips into a “forward pivotal axis” means absolutely nothing to 9/10 ams! Most golfers start the swing with a rotation of their hips which causes major issues. I coach in a language amateurs understand.
