I’m a 16 handicap. I use Titleist TruFeel and Bridgestone e6. I still lose too many golf balls to justify playing an expensive ball like a ProV1. I really enjoyed the video. Thank you.

I started with using the new Bridgestone E6 also now I use the restored pro V1’s same price as 12 tru feel and 12 bridge stone e6 I felt bridge stone are heavy after using the prov1 I think a used restored prov 1 is still better than a new lower end ball but I could be wrong the NEW Kirkland balls and PROV1’s are what I use now can’t get away from them

I have been a ball snob for most of the 60 years I have been playing golf, always using premium balls. Now 81 years old with a 17 handicap. I have been experimenting with about 20 different balls in the new PGA Superstore in Rockville, Maryland, checking carry, total, ball speed, back spin, side spin, height. Everything from the left dash Pro V1x and Bridgestone BX to the Callaway ERC Soft and Supersoft. Can't say I loved the feel and sound of the extremely soft balls, and have to admit that the hard feel and sound of the extreme high compression balls made me feel like I had to work too hard. At my swing speeds I am pretty sure regardless of what the manufacturers say that I can't compress the firmest balls anywhere near what a pro does and thus simply cannot get the same type of performance. Sure, anyone can play a 100 or 100+ compression ball, but you can't tell me that a 120 mph swing and an 85 mph swing will make the ball work the same way. So a week ago I decided to buy sleeves of the Titleist Tour Soft, Taylor Made Tour Response, Wilson Duo, and Volvik Vivid (white only). Would have bought the Srixson Soft Feel but they don't sell single sleeves. The Duo was obviously soft, but almost too soft, producing a slightly dead sound and feel. Could be wrong, could be my swing that day. Anyway, I played 18 holes at a local course on Thursday and used the Titleist Tour Soft. I thought the feel and sound were fantastic, and it was long with the driver. To my mind, it was probably the kind of feel that a pro has with the premium, firmer balls like the ProV1. I got excellent feel, height and stop with mid irons and wedges, and excellent feel with the putter. I did notice that it is possible to nick the cover slightly with wedge grooves. Just a tiny bit. That could be because it is a two-piece ball with a different cover material, a "thin 4CE grafted cover." Not sure what 4CE is or what grafted means. In contrast, the Tour Speed is a three piece ball with a urethane cover. I will test all the soft balls using the Foresight Hawk practice bays at the PGA Superstore to see if I can confirm with data which one works best for me, but the Titleist Tour Soft was a really nice ball I would recommend for any recreational golfer wit less than scratch level swing speed.

I've been playing the Tru feel for most of this season and really like them. They seem to be a bit longer than the Callaway Supersoft with decent control around the green. The covers do tend to wear pretty quickly if your grooves are clean sharp.

Long time ProV1 player (14hcp) Thought I would try a few other's, AVX, Velocity, TruFeel. Hated AVX and Velocity but TruFeel a surprise. Good distance, fine for my short game. Durability OK but I get a new ball out every time my handicap is on the line. And I can get them for half the price of a ProV1.

Nice job at the Evian, Sophie! Great to see some numbers on the TruFeel, so thanks for this, Sophie! People rarely test it. I think it's just a fantastic value for anyone from around high single figures up to 30+, and for players with driver speed around 95 and below. And that, of course, is most golfers on the planet. I'm a 4 hcp at the moment, and it's a perfect ball for me, too. Just enough spin, high-but-not-too-high trajectory, nice feel, and I pick up about 7 yards with irons and fairway woods over a firm tour ball. And I love it around the greens, although I don't use a lot of spin, so I don't care about urethane anyway. And you still get Titleist quality at a great price!
@midlifebiker74242 жыл бұрын
I really like the Srixon divide, for vertical alignment when putting and horizontal for pitching, looks cool when spinning. Titleist ProV1x is a great ball but not as bright as others. I also like Bridgestone in bright orange on cloudy days or bright white in a blue sky. I dont lose many balls, in fact I often find them as my course has lots of snakes and ppl wont look for them. Im watching this as Titleist is doing a ball testing day, perhaps I will hit the ones I like in the bushes....

At $19 for a 15 pack and manufactured at the same plant as the Prov's they are a great bargain. Thanks for the review. When I started getting back into golf last year I bought used/refurbished proV1s, but realized quickly that I was losing too many. I wanted to play new and relatively high quality balls for consistency, but couldn't justify the cost of new Pro V1's, so I tried Tour Speed. Been playing them since and love them. I'm not a long hitter, but they seem to pop off the face enough to get me decent and consistent distance. They're great for chipping and I love how they putt as well. All around great ball and while they still cost a bit, they're not as much as the super premium balls.

Appreciate the review, very worthwhile. At a 70+ age & driver sw speed that tops out at 85, I need all the distance I can get and I've been playing the velocity for the past year w a low spin driver (sub zero, now LS). When I was comparing drivers I found surprisingly it was actually the ball that mattered more than the driver (velocity was always farthest)! Previously played cal supersoft but these are longer. I get the maximum distance with the extra run out (over pro v1) and can keep up w many half my age. I'm just now switching to the tru-feel for the added short game spin (which I've come to realize is missing in the velocity). I usually find enough pro v1/x's in a round that I probably would not need any balls but actually prefer the extra distance /run out of the other balls. I'm glad you pointed out the pro's don't have to pay for their pro v1's. (free AND many are paid to play them).

Hi Soph, I was brought up using any ball I found. I now play off 6 and still use only balls I find. Of course only decent ones, but unless you find the middle of the club 95% of the time, you may as well tee up a top flite. Enjoyed your test and I think this proves that amateurs don't need to spend £4 per ball. Ps this way when you find a decent ProV1 it's like Christmas 🎄 😄

Disagree...If you care about your game and improving you should play the same ball all the time. Massive differences in golf balls. Some go much shorter than other, some spin some don't. You can't pay good consistent golf if you don't know how your ball behaves. Now if you're just hacking around then who cares...

nice review, and it's nice to see someone that comes up with the same results that i've seen (and i'm certainly not a pro, just a about a 3 handicap). I did come up with slightly different conclusions, though. If i could get my hands on Pro V1x's easily, i'd certainly do it. They're fun to chip around the green. But i can't, and i've foud the Trufeel is best for me. I noticed you came up with similar #'s that i did -- primarily on the irons, you were showing it was about 8 yards longer than the Prov1. That's almost a club difference, and that's what i like about it. I play it because i get slightly more yardage on the iron shots. Hitting a wedge instead of a 9 iron, or perhaps a 7-iron instead of a 6-iron, are potentially huge advantages. A good approach shot can hide some poor chipping skills :) And the poor chipping skills aren't because i don't want to get better at it, it's just that it's a facet of the game that's harder to make time for practicing it.

LOL, I posted just now. I'm turning 59 in October and I'm also a Tour Soft player. I think it's good for us "older" players because we're more control/feel players and don't care if we have to take more club than some of the young guns.

Awesome job. I've been playing the TourSoft 2020 version, partially because I read the package and trusted Titleist's description. I'm basically a bogey golfer that likes control above distance and, as a side note, I really like the T-shaped "aiming" line for putting. It's really helped me visualize the line and square up the putter face more effectively. It's saved me a handful of strokes every round just from the 4-6 foot putts I always seem to leave myself.
