​@@_Lane_ he belittles his wife and her interests, he lied to her for years and had secret lunches with an ex-girlfriend, he didn't defend her against his mother's constant insults, he became violently jealous when she started dating once they were separated (hypocritical considering his secret lunches) He loves Lorelai and is proud of her success as a businesswoman, but constantly reminds her that Christopher was better and that Rory took after him. He loves Rory but if she weren't a relatively docile overachiever, he wouldn't be all that interested in her as a person. He was good in many ways but he isn't all that great.
