LESSON ONE: bit.ly/37V67jB
LESON THREE: • FIX Hip Turn in the Go...
I went for my second lesson. Eric was in constant contact with me over Whatsapp working on the basic idea of removing the move to the right off the ball in the backswing and I decided to change my grip because my weak grip fanned the face open making progress much harder.

In this video, I understand an "obvious" concept to people who have taken lessons or understand compressing a golf ball. But to me, this was a lightbulb moment, a Eureka moment, where I actually learned something new that I should have known when I was 11 or 12 years old. This lesson really blew me away and while it may seem trivial to some, this was one of the most earth shattering understandings I have ever felt in any field of study or practice. Thanks Eric.

This is such an interesting tactic. Instead of YOU telling US how to hit a ball well, you show HIM teaching YOU how to strike properly. Honestly, it seems so simple, but this is a pretty novel approach and it makes for a MUCH better video. It doesn't feel like a sales pitch for a certain technique...more like a justification for going and getting proper a lesson!

Yes sir. This is why the channel was started. I was tired of pros telling people what to do, but never showing them showing someone else how to do it and having success.. Zen Golf Mechanic puts a lot of his lessons on line and he is also a game changer. There is no sales pitch on this channel. Only selling YOU to YOURSELF. That is all. I'm tired of the horse shit in golf shaming people for their swing, their thinking, their desire to have fun, rules afficianados, all the nonsense. It's about you playa and there is no generic help...there is no generic swing - personal journey, own it win it love it

@@GolfSidekick Matt, I like the chip, pitch, swing idea. I’ve struggled with being a “handle dragged” thru impact and wanted to ask if you feel a release of the club, even when feeling the rotation of the shoulders? I am trying to throw the club head but have the same square shoulder, jammed up look at impact as you prior to your eureka moment. Thanks for any insight and help. Jonathan Balanetsky i can’t feel that release yet playa. It’s hard for me to understand through the body to brain connection , just How release should take place after the impact. You are never too old for a lesson! My dad taught me to golf from when I was young, and did a great job. Once I started playing competitively it was out of his ability. He took me to a pro for lessons. I took them and improved greatly, and more importantly understood my swing. After 2 years of convincing I finally got him to take a lesson as well. About 2 years later we shot 75 together while on a golf trip and it is his best round to date. He told me over and over he was too old for lessons but it made all the difference in his enjoyment of the game.

Jeff Sandberg the only time you would implement anything from anyone is if that pro showed it to you in person for your swing specifically. This is a personal game not a generic one so while Rick has great genetic tips online, it’s not him that will decide the success of your implementation of the swing tip. It’s whether it applies to you or not. And we are not good self diagnosers.

I'm a 5 handicapper, but haven"t played in 10 years, and I feel like shit because one time I hit it good and the next time only poofies (either right-blocks or hooks) I watch the first video of your series and I realize that I have huge sway as well, and although I have a neutral grip. I compensate the same way you did (huge and flip to square the clubface). I don't know how many people will relate exactly, but it will change a lot for me to see your change documented, and as soon as France opens its golf courses I will be practicing on this! This one makes more sense to me that other drills. I hit the ball hard and long at times but am a left side hitter. This drill shows me how I am still way too flippy. Recording myself shows that often as I steepen downswing many times then pull my hips in toward ball instead of releasing. Also live the shoulder release you mentioned in prior training video. I lock shoulders up a lot there and get those chunky or thin hits from all flipping at it. Thanks a ton for this amazing share bro. Years ago was a 6 handicap. Quit for over 10 years. Took back up last year. Looking back to those wonderful rounds in the 70's again. Even at 51 I will achieve and just watching your mentality playing helps me better at keeping my mental game in check also. Thanks again and love the videos.

Brilliant explanation with the chipping/short pitching in relation to the added dynamic that the full swing brings. In short, the takeaway in which the body and arms are working together from a half swing...reaches a point where the body stops turning and we pass it to the arms. So if we don’t shallow then arms on the downswing to get back in sequence...the body outraces the arms and we find the ourselves either stuck or steep, which leads to early extension and flippy. That’s why taking notes from either tiger (who tried to have his arms beat his chest to the ball....or Sergio “pulling the chain” can be fantastic swing thoughts. The arms need to shallow first, which ultimately reconnects the body and allows a connected strike for a powerful impact position. Great instructor and great student. Whadda lesson!

@@ericchong142 IMO, you just explained what good teaching is all about. Doesn't matter if it's golf, algebra or baking - a good teacher uses whatever is necessary to get the message through. Matt has repeatedly said "You can't fix your swing on KZbin - go see a Pro" and that's not a bad thing - but neither is it necessarily easy either. Good on ya'!

You always have struck me as the type of person who will put forth a bit of time to practice etc so I know you have commitment. This should be a fun process just remember that. Thanks Matt for showing us your time with Eric...this has been amazing..last Sunday, I went and played at the Fish River, it also happens to be the first time I've played there, I tried the Charlie Chaplin style of playing, and without practising it at all, it just seemed to work for me...even the putting..before this I was struggling a bit..this came around at a great time!!! Thanks so much...

I did a swing analysis a few weeks ago as a newbie and worked on the EXACT same thing! The impact bag really helped with feeling what impact should be like and not flipping and my instructor strengthened my grip too. Strike sounds so much better now. Good luck with the changes!

If I could go back into the past and do only ONE thing before evr hitting a golf ball...I would ask for an Impact bag and a simple drill Eric showed me that he does with rank beginners. You don't even swing the club,...I will make a video of it. That is all I would want to change in my past. If I knew what impact looked and felt like...what a golfer I would be 20 years later

Your golf shot is just a larger extension of your chipping and pitching. Wow! My pw and sw are as good as Phil Mickelson. I often get asked how do you get that beautiful flight and land it on exactly the same spot 8 out of 10 times? Then i go to my 8 iron or longer and it all goes to shizen. I'm obviously changing what I do with the longer clubs. This is gold.

Amazing videos, he is really a playa's pro holy moly dat teaching skill! I love to muscle a few drivers here and there, but (trying to) puring 6-9 irons (even if it's just off a scruffy mat) I could do until I collapse. There is few better feelings than a clean iron strike and the sound of angels singing.

I will be trying this. I had a lesson recently where my coach weakened my grip to help me pitch and chip better and it worked tremendously well. I have struggled with full shots though getting alot of shankidoodles on the range. But I think the ideas in this video will help alot thanks!
@GolfSidekick

Playa i shank the opening shot of every range session. And then i hit 4-5 more shanks - nothing to worry about. once you have a target on the course, it will get better and the things you are working on, will slolwly become automatic. I am using a weaker grip for my pitching and chipping. I'm finding my stronger grip is causing a lot of pulls on pitch shots. But I'll find it some day!

Thanks playa, there seems to be a lot of guys (especially office workers or desk jockeys) who like us, have this hip problem for rotation so we 'cheat it' but swaying way off the ball to make more turn. And another one I think is this thing where because of our lack of mobility and lack of fundamentals, we HUMP the ball. So common. We should all endeavouor to fix it

This is incredible. Exactly my problem - I hump the ball and get that chicken wing. I've been talking to a pro and he told me that I don't get that rotation through and can't hit the ball with full potential because of it. Will try to fix myself otherwise I'll ring that pro. Good to finally know what I am doing wrong. 😊👍
