Played from blues last week because two of our foursome were manly men and better golfers. First hole was par 5 and I dug out my five iron much to the amusement of the group. I got on in four and putted for par. The others shanked their drives and scrambled for bogeys. Got 96 which is my best score this year! Hail to the playa!

Matt, nothing in recent times improved my game like your channel. Thank you so much for opening my eyes to my dumb ass ways of approaching the game before. I play 21 hcp because I can bomb my driver to 300+ BUT the dispersion is horrendous. So 3/10 I may land in playable positions the other 7 are either OB or deep in the Scheisse. Big numbers galore. And I never ever thought that this might be the problem because everybody complimented me on my length and was encouraging me to hit the big stick. No matter the result... Now I played a round following the way of the playah with a safe i7 max and a 22° hybrid from tee when I could land it with confidence and in play. I played my best round scoring an 88 only losing 1 ball. And it was even a super chill and fun round with little stress. You the man! Next up: training putting distance control and toe down chipping to break 80.

I play the old man tees because I am one. I quit using the driver because it leads to greater inconsistency, and I hit a 3W about as far, 210 to 220. My putter is my best weapon. Because I do not hit far, my chipping is good. What the lesson was in this video really defines my game. Why do I play? It is a challenge, and it is fun. I play with friends in the same boat I am in. Make the game easier, and you will have more fun.

Played on Saturday... was playing with a group of friends who all drive it like 270-300 yards, I hit my 5w ~200 off the tee but always very close to the fairway or first cut of rough. I started out very tough and ended up with a 52 on the front 9. But I stuck to the plan and shot a 41 on the back 9. Ended up beating 2 of the 4 guys, and the guy who I lost to, I'm fairly certain went into the woods with Titleist and came out with callaways more than once. Regardless, only lost 1 ball while they all lost sleeves and sleeves. my PB is a 92 and I shot a 93 after a horrendous front 9. Was very happy with it tbh. I'm going to break 90 this year.

Love the channel. Have for many years. Been greatly beneficial to my game development. An overlooked aspect of the game that boosts confidence and makes the game enjoyable for mid to high handicappers is playing scramble with your mates. It's proved to myself that when I don't put the pressure on myself, I can make more of the shots I want to make. Thus, when I go back and play stroke play, I play much better. Just a thought. I always play scramble whenever I play with high handicap friends. Sppeds up play and gets us working together and always a good day golfing. Cheers

What you said about scoring ceilings really hit home! I'm there now in my quest to break 80. I experimented with some longer clubs today. It wasn't a tournament round or anything. I had planned out the course first so I had my shots into the green picked out ahead of time. This worked great whenever I missed my target off the tee or second shot. I didnt need a hero shot to catch up and still had a load of stress free bogeys. Plus, I played the one ball all the way around! 💪 PS- this caddie was funny! It cracks me up everytime -- "no birdie, no tip".

I have been watching GS since I started playing 18 months ago. The most important thing to remember with all of his content is discipline. Discipline in practising the short game chipping/pitching, discipline in practising the repeatable 160yd swing and most of all, discipline in sticking to the process when everyone around you is doing it differently. The GS content is not a short cut or cop out, it still takes hard work but the rewards are a far more simple and peaceful time on the golf course when everyone else is losing the plot. I currently take a driver, 6i, 8i, PW, SW and putter (sometimes adding a 7W) and love the simplicity of it (and the much lighter bag to carry!) I only use driver when I’m forced to e.g. playing off the back tees in club comps. Of course there are occasions every so often where I’m between clubs but it’s then just a choice between whether the miss is at the front or back of the green. It’s a great way to approach golf and I definitely think for new golfers like me it should be the way everyone learns to play this game

There was a super interesting article in Golf Digest about distances the average person plays to make it seem like you're playing the same yardage as the pros do with driving distance. Basically, if you're hitting a drive 230 -250 yards on avg playing 6000 yards, that's the equivalent as an average PGA pro playing a 8200+ yard course. Long story short. People play tees WAY TOO LONG for their skill and driving distance and then wonder why a round takes 5 hours and they shoot 90-120. Guys needs to swallow their pride and move up. It's more fun and better golf for everyone. Even if you're hitting 270 average, you shouldn't be playing the tips anywhere if you want a comparable challenge to a pro.

Matt, I always appreciate your suggestions, but when you try to simulate a golfer who can only drive 190 or something similar, the resulting approach for you is a Short club that you hit straight usually. The real 190 hitter is approaching with a long iron or wood that is much more difficult to hit. The more realistic simulation is when you hit left handed - with ALL clubs. Still love your channel.

Some people I play with hit a long drive, and act as if they have already won the hole. Now, if they are in scramble with me hitting in short or putting, they are probably correct, but many is the slip twixt cup and lip. A guy hit it 289 and walked up needing 20 yards to hit the green, a short par 4, and blasted it over the green and took a 6. So, you can be a shorter hitting and still score better if you are good around the greens and on the greens, and with approach shots. If not, you will be disappointed and say stuff like I wasted a great drive. No, you didn't after you hit it the shot is over, and you must on your next shot. Your great drive gave you a shorter club into the green, but it doesn't mean you will hit the shorter shot or putt any good.
