Just wanted to say that since I’ve discovered your channel, my game has improved significantly. Always been a mid/high 80s shooter with the occasional low 80, but now I’m consistently shooting low 80s and just shot a stress free 76 today. I owe it to you and your focus on the mental game and just enjoying the game. Keep up the great work playa! Cheers.

Waddacamelman! I get a few doubting thomas messages from unbelievers that this methodology and thinking probably doesnt work. But playas like you are proof that its a monumental leap in how golf is played and you hacked off at least 10 shots to become who you were meant to be on the course. Waddalegend waddaplaya waddaringer!

I discovered this channel only the other day and have watched waaaay too many videos. What I find fascinating is that you are talking my golf philosophy! Fantastic! I've been golfing for 30+ years and have finally learned, due to a thick cranium condition, that ego has no place on the course. When it shows up, beat it back into the ground! Thanks for the confirmation and the additional info which will allow me to fine tune my game. Whataplaya!

Guys Play the shape you have. Play the shots you know. Especially on a new course. Play to what you can safely see. Play the stress free shot. No one wants to shoot blow outs on a once in a lifetime opportunity on their bucket list courses. Be smart, dont be a moegoe!

Is the TPC Kuala Lumpur near Rawang north of the city? Good course. Never played it but watched Padraig Harrington blow it and lost to that Taiwanese guy in 2000. It was backed up and I had a chat with him as I was young and obviously not native. Not many westerners were there that day. Remember, this was pre majors Harrington but I knew he was a playa as he hit the ball so pure. Great memories.

Liking the "stress-free" idea. I look at golf like this: "if I absolutely needed to get up and down or else, which shot and club would I choose?" My old coach calls it a "gun to your head" approach. If you absolutely need an up and down or green in reg, what would you do? Liking the content. Getting better and better every month. Keep it coming.

I love playing new courses but I'm always putting up terrible scores on them, like 10-12 shots worse than my average on courses I've played at least twice I'd say. One of my strengths is definitely using course knowledge to stay out of trouble or set up the easiest possible next shot.
@GolfSidekick
@GolfSidekick 6 жыл бұрын
I used to be the same. Its probably because youve convinced yourself that youre gonna do it. The best thing is to have a go to club that you can use knowing that youll hit it within a few yards of where you intend each time. Then from there its about hitting the middle of the greens and not taking on perilous pins. Find the simplest shot and make sure youre aiming so you dont screw yourself with short siding. Hazards short go long hazards long go short! Hit the stress free shots! And no expectations before the round sir!

Thats at altitude. At sea level its closer to 180. Just confidence with that club which eases up your swing which makes you hit it further. Usually tension and doubts kill distance because of all the wasted energy in the arms and hands and shoulder not allowing a free flow

I think the hardest thing about applying your stress free strategy is discipline, especially off the tee. What do you do to separate yourself from the negative or excessive positive energy from a blow up hole or eagle birdie hole previously? Hard to get that driver out of one's hands sometime.
@GolfSidekick
@GolfSidekick 6 жыл бұрын
Hmmm...I guess it comes with practice of trying to be more disciplined. Just look at each hole as it's own piece of real estate to navigate. The previous hole is done and now it's time to tackle getting the ball into the hole in the least strokes using the most stress free shot you can. Once you see the benefits of stress free golf and how good you feel after a round where you feel pretty good with yourself as a person and not just as a shot-maker, because you made good decisions, you'll get hooked on it. It's quite self-developmentish but I promise you'll look back on a round and go, damn, I made a good decision there, and man I held my nerve there, and man I chose the right shot there, and man I believed in myself there and the confidence you get from that will spill over into your stress free decision making. Much nicer than looking back and saying dam I got lucky there, or wow I got away with that, or I should have put the driver away on 4, etc etc
@coreyl6221
@coreyl6221 6 жыл бұрын
@@GolfSidekick Good distinction on getting away from feeling good as a "shot maker". As I know I will feel better or reap more confidence from shooting a good total score versus that 1 great shot in the middle of the round that wasn't a good decision that I got lucky with. It's tough as I play more like a poephol after a birdie more so than after a bad hole. Thanks for sharing your perspective Playa!

What would you advise for playing in the rain and chipping below the green? I’m having trouble with my 60 degree but don’t get any loft with a pw.
@GolfSidekick
@GolfSidekick 6 жыл бұрын
First advice would be to go home or wait for the rain to stop. Next I would say, try to leave your ball in the easiest chipping position by playing your approach shot there. If it's totally unavoidable, chipping up onto the green is tough, there is less spin so land it shorter of the pin than you normally would. And if the LW gives you trouble and PW isn't lofting enough, I suggest a 54 degree wedge.

I want you to go back and look at your footage from hole number 7 again. You're very observant, but I wonder if you've noticed your two hybrid Club swing from this hole. These two shots we're pure because you kept the club in front of your chest throughout the swing. A lot of times when you lose a shot to the right with a Big Slice, I notice the club lagging way behind you in the swing add to you staying on your back foot with a huge circus like finish. I believe that is due to you trying 2 pound drives off the tee and get your normal slight fade. With your new swing changes, if you keep the club in front of your chest, I think you could see the best ball-striking you've ever had.
@GolfSidekick
@GolfSidekick 6 жыл бұрын
Lol thats what I have been working on and i agree. Its because I am still in the old school mindset of left hip starts the downswing where I just dont think thats the case. This new move of keeping the right shoulder covering the ball makes me feel like I am coming way over the top but I actually hit a properly compressed ball and the ball penetrates the air like a mother. It shocks me to see the new flight just how good it comes out. Big fan of @hogansbooklied on Instagram. Loving what he is preaching and my not starting left hip first and trying to snap back the left leg, My lover back is almost totally cured. Its so liberating. I also need to stop hitting the ball so damn hard. Going to rewatch 7 again
@OurHouseChannel
@OurHouseChannel 6 жыл бұрын
@@GolfSidekick Ok, brain picking time. Playa to playa, pimp to pimp. (Denzel from Training Day). You make me want to dig in to the hogans book lied approach, but does he have one place I can go and study other than Instagram? Second part of this chat; What do you think of George Gankas? I could type a book here, but instead, before I share my synopsis, tell me your thoughts.
@GolfSidekick
@GolfSidekick 6 жыл бұрын
I don't know George Gankas. I will need to look him up. I honestly don't know much about the swing and hate following any sort of advice, all I know is that I was doing something wrong because it was painful. That's the only time I reckon it's worth it to go for swing adjustments. So I went to a guy in Port Elizabeth and he got me onto this thing of David Duval Anika Sorenstam head swivel to get me to release my upper body and not focus so much on releasing the club which is causing the flippy shots I was hitting ballooning into the wind (Port Elizabeth is the windy city and will kill you if you play balloony ball). From there, that feeling of coming over the top that felt so natural before came back to me and I lost the back pain. The ball compressed. I picked up 5 more yards. I had back spin again. I think hogansbooklied is writing a book now and will release it this season. I want to get him on the channel to talk me through the approach and look at my swing and compare good vs bad swings, and swing ideology. Get some more eyes on his book and ideas. When he mentioned skiers legs, I was hooked because I've noticed all my purest shots have been with skiers legs. You can see that on 9 where i hit the purest 6 iron over that tree. That left leg snapping back just seems so painful and unnatural for my body to do and I always end up with inner hip pain on the left side. Then there is the left hip starting the downswing he mentions it's not that. That had me hooked because I just end up sliding or spinning out and hitting major slices. And get lower back pain! I think hogansbooklied is very responsive to requests on his Instagram account with sending of swing videos etc and chats. So hit him up, I am sure you can have a chat with him.
@OurHouseChannel
@OurHouseChannel 6 жыл бұрын
@@GolfSidekick Ok, that all makes total sense and I agree. I am a bit lost on "skiers legs", but thats ok. I will research. I brought up George Gankas because he is the hot new thang. Which is almost exclusively not my thang by rule. I study mechanics and all the different philosophies, but I rarely implement anything new or taught. I have been and will remain self taught. Gankas is building a stable of next generation talent and he is definitely what I would call insightful and thoughtful. My issue with most teachers however, especially those that teach high level players, is that average golfers are crippled by trying to do what works for pros. Gankas has a lot of movement that seems convoluted and excessively demanding for average people. I suppose if you were young and athletic and just starting out and had 400 bucks an hour to pay him and lived in LA, it might be a path to take..... Let me know what you think at the end of your research.

It's honestly been sooooo godamned hard for me to let go of playing the way of the poephol. I think being a decent ball striker and fairly long hitter makes it pretty difficult to resist going for the pin every time. Was shooting mostly in the upper 80's hitting a lot of greens, often reaching par 5's in 2 and then 3 or 4 putting most holes, much to the amusement of all my golfing chinas but then thanks to your putting on the steel ruler practice trick, my putting's improved dramatically over the last few months (I feel eternally obliged for this... thank you!). Obviously, started thinking I'll be breaking 80 in no time but now I'm suddenly making a lot more poor swings, pulling everything on the front 9 and then pushing on the back 9...haven't even broken 90 in my last several games... oh sigh..

Are you responsible for the music at the end because the high pitched yells you let out at the 3:55 sound just like the ones in the song you like to recap with. If so, whattasinga!

I love how dudes try it and almost immediately make birdies. Then they send me a mail or instagram message telling me about it like its unreal. This is purest form of science known to man. Plant feathers grow birdies.
