I enjoyed the lecture. I think the reason why it is difficult to downswing with your method is because we do not know how to coordinate the use of the lower body and the movement of the arms. Please also give a lecture on the use of the lower body paired with the movement of the arms. I watched your video and tried to follow it, but I did not get as fast as I thought. I hope you will be happy in 2025 and make many good videos like you do now.
@GolfwithMarcusEdblad4 күн бұрын
Thank you for your support. I want you to let the lower body become a natural help instead of a conscious moving part. If we leave the lower body alone it will be working in sync with what our hands want to do. If we overload the lower body with instructions it will stop working. 😊

Great video Marcus. I’m 80 and have played the game for 70 years; this move is something I figured out long ago but to this day have trouble doing on a consistent basis. There is an instinct at the top of the backswing to go at it with the dominant trail shoulder, and for some (like me) it’s an extremely difficult instinct to overcome. As you teach here, the key is to leave the trail shoulder in place as you start the downswing with your arms. Easier said than done, but you do a great job here of showing us the right way to do it. 👍

A good tip I picked up along the same lines is to imagine a paint brush attached to your club-head, and at the top of the backswing paint a stripe down the wall until your hands reach your right pocket before you fire your hips to rotate into impact! Cheers

Hi, Marcus, thank you for your content. I am adopting your circle of speed method. One thing I'd like to know is whether the angle of outward swinging decreases as the iron's loft increases (or shots become shorter), and how much in to out you swing on pitching, chipping and even putting... Bravo Big Swede … you lifted many a vail over eyes and minds with the explanation on what parts of the body makes the down move in The Marcus Swing At one time there was a folded up piece of paper that you could get at most gas stations in the days gone by called a road map and it was to help travelers get to there points of destinations You can tell a traveler to turn left or right or go straight to get to where they want to go and sometimes depending on the driver … he or she had a 50/50 chance getting there but… You put that road map in there hands showing highways and roads and streets and names to them… then the %’s got much higher that they would complete there trip You proved here that the down swing isn’t the chest making it happen and why but it’s the shoulder and arms and if I may …somewhat the back muscle … something you might find in a road map called streets and roads You sharing your knowledge is admirable and the words you use will make the learning process more meaningful but the lack of words can delay the process … today the process was ignited like the fire works bring in the new year The more you explain about what body parts are used in your explanations … more the % rates for use travelers to get to our destination go up Just like looking at that road map Now… if I can only fold it back up 😉 Bravo 👍⛳️👍

@@GolfwithMarcusEdblad Exactly, I'm still fighting the tendency to pull with the lead arm once in awhile, which generally causes an over the top swing path for me. My old swing was me pulling with the lead arm, which gave me a few good shots and the rest, ok to poor. I also need to be sure i cover the ball enough with irons mainly, making sure i'm pushing the trail arm sufficiently to create a proper descending blow without starting to pull too much the lead arm, which probably is the cause of the small consistency issue. Fairway woods are good and driver is good. The core of your teachings Marcus, has to be the trail arm push technique. And using the trail arm push, even as an add-on to many other swing styles, gives superior golf shots for me at least. So now the majority of my shots are good and a few ok and very few are poor. Just trying to iron out the occasional poor shots and turn those into at least ok. Thanks Marcus. peace love light

Hi Marcus - I'm working on using gravity to drop the club and then hit and rotate but my brain struggles to make this connection in what is a new approach to the swing. As the weather is poor here in Scotland I swing without a golf ball so I don't see what the real result is. It is tough going.

Appreciate your videos and teaching style. I Get more pop and acceleration using the trail arm and the pushing motion. Understand your weight tends to be on the back foot as pointed out by Chad. Some of us do better as front posters of our weight for stability. Do you have adjustments or advice in using your swing principles for those of us that feel better front loaded or weight loaded? Thanks and Happy and Healthy New Year
@GolfwithMarcusEdblad5 күн бұрын
Glad to hear that you found some help in my videos. My weight or your weight doing this should not stay on the back foot. It moves to the lead foot but it happens later to give the club time to go down enough. Chad got that wrong and he knows it now. A to early move of the body and weight forward is exactly what robs most golfers of a good result. Where you want your low point and where you want to impact the ground should dictate how we move the weight and when we do it. 👍

Absolutely, Marcus. And just as I said before your sternum has gone back 6-8 inches (which is a lot) at the top of the backswing. Trail shoulder is higher and the trail hip is also higher than the lead one at the top. Then you drop the hip and the shoulder VERY quickly in the early downswing so that the trail hip and knee are coming in from behind the lead ones (fron the rear of your body). By the time your hands are around hip high, the knees and hips are level and parallel to the target line but the shoulder line is still ( I'm guessing ) close to 45 degrees closed with a big wrist angle still available to unload. So tons of stored power in the shoulders and trail arm and club combo. Then you drive all of that trail side power out towards the ball and around towards the target. With the driver in particular you drive out, under and upwards with the trail shoulder and arm, so basically perfect angles for high, low spin, draws. With irons the motion is similar except that the trail shoulder drives much more level in the late downswing and through the hit. I think as you are saying that the quick lowering of the trail shoulder and hip in the early downswing is very central to the effectiveness of your motion and I also think that as you do that some of the weight (or pressure) has to move back down onto the trail leg before the trail leg moves very far out toward the ball and before a lot of the weight has gone to the lead side. All of this together is creating motion of "the circle" as it is setting you up to really deliver the trail arm. And it really is a circle, not just with the trail arm, since the trail side has gone up and back and then down and out towards the ball and round towards the target. Happy New Year to All. Cheers.

@@GolfwithMarcusEdblad Well. I try to load it just enough so that I can perform what I need to do for a good swing. That is certainly the goal. But in my personal case, even though I have golfed at a very high level, I always needed to understand what my body was doing in order to keep it. There are just so many feels (and ideas) in the golf swing, at least for me. But for anyone that can keep it really simple, more power to them and they have the best situation, for sure. Cheers.

I understand the shoulder and arm move . Is this the initial down swing move ? Hogan talked about hips and legs first , Corey Pavin initiated the down swing with left shoulder going towards the target . Are you describing this movement after an initial move and turn to the target ? Hope I have not misunderstood . Valuable insights as ever !
@GolfwithMarcusEdblad5 күн бұрын
We will always move/turn to the target or we will miss the ball. What the pro's are feeling is very hard to use or compare with because they are not doing this wrong. They are all extending the trail arm down and after a while it becomes automatic. This video is not for Hogan or Pavin who already master this. This video is for the 90% who are missing this move in the swing. 👍

When it has been a problem so long it has nothing to do with your body, it's all about how you think. One of my students fought ten year before he could solve it and it was instant when he realized what thought that kept him doing it wrong. Everyone can swing from the inside if we have the right "program". You don't need more lessons but you need to find out what thought is stopping you from doing what you want. Remember that the club should never go to the target. 😊
