We picked up something mean and green at the Mowrey auction!
Werner Farms, established in 1960, is a family farm operation based in rural Hanna, IN. The KZbin channel and social media pages are run by Keith Werner, the third generation of Werner Farms.
Werner Farms currently operates on 1,700 acres of corn, soybeans, wheat and rye along with 1,000 acres of custom harvest work. The farm has no-tilled since the early 1980s and continues to increase acres of cover crops year to year. Besides the farm operation, Werner Farms has sold Pioneer Seed since the 1980s. Numerous John Deere tractors are currently used on the farm ranging from a 730 to an 8530.
Be sure to subscribe and check back often as we post videos every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. We may post more frequently during peak seasons throughout the year.

Very nice machine. We have a forage Harvestore with that same cab and I mounted the cb right under the radio. There is also a slide style bracket that goes across the right window that you could mount green star display to and maybe mount radio to display bracket that's already there.

Our 2012 S660 has been a great machine but it is seasonal. One year 0 problems(this year), last year fighting it all year main rotor bearing went out, main hydraulic pump feeder house reverser housing and even had a hydraulic filter explode. But preventive maintenance should solve most of that. Congratulations you’ll love it.

We just upgraded combines this summer we had a 9550, 9610, and 2 9650’s we sold the 9550 to one of our employees and we bought a 2012 S670 and we love it. Compared to a 9650 with an 8 row corn head the same head on the S makes the machine twice as efficient. We run a 25ft on our 9610 and compared to the 630fd the machine is three times as efficient. On the 9650’s we run 920’s and the S is four times as efficient. We do custom in Western NY so 80% of the time the combines are separated and we have 3 1000 bushel grain carts and 4 10 wheelers with aluminum boxes, 2 30-40ft hopper trailers, and a 30ft dump trailer the S can’t run without a grain cart it’s too efficient but you can easily get away with not having one with just one walker machine. My point being better be prepared to lack trucks
@WernerAg
@WernerAg 5 жыл бұрын
Oh definitely especially with bushel capacity and the size of heads we will be running trucks are going tk be a huge factor.

I am not a farmer. Running a smaller head on that machine is going to cost you more in the end. In the end your going to end up with: More hours on the machine, more hours equals more maintenance. More fuel burned when you could had gotten more done in less time! I do not know the maintenance costs per year but I know it is not cheap. If it were me I would buy the correct size heads for the machine! I would buy more trucks and I would also increase my drying capacity and add at least one, maybe two more storage bins for storage.... before I upgraded the dryer... if you have the extra storage then you can have more time to dry the corn... I don’t know the extra bushes of corn your going to be handling now but it sounds to me like your doubling your intake. Yes running the smaller heads will keep you from having to update all of the above, trucks, new bins, and adding another dryer.... but in the end it is going to cost you a lot more money! More wear on the machine, twenty five to forty percent more wear and fuel costs! Your going to wear that combine out a lot faster! To me it would be better to buy the right size heads and when your ahead of your other equipment shut the combine off. Here is another thing to ponder on... What happens next year or three down the road when you have bad weather coming in and you need to get as much of the grains in before you lose a big percentage of the crop to the bad weather? Say you lose 25-50% of your entire crop left in the fields when you could had got a lot more of it harvested? Let’s say you lost half of the corn on 500 plus acres? What about 1000-1200 acres? Like I said, I am not a farmer... just a 100% Disabled Veteran... Good luck Merry Christmas Happy New Year
@WernerAg
@WernerAg 5 жыл бұрын
I understand your thinking as we think about that idea all the time. Though we are not going to run a 16 row head on this. I'm not upset at all but in reality this is the costs we would be looking at to update. At least 100,000 for a dryer and probably overall to update our storage and rrying setup at least 400,000. Trucks and hoppers would be around 80-100,000. Larger sized heads also come at a larger cost. By anymeans if we were farming around 4k acres we would consider it but at this time it's not feasible to spend that much capital due to the lower markets we are currently in. I do like your thinking though and I'm glad you understand the drawback of larger equipment.

Congratulations. I look forward to your reviews of this combine. Protect the investment. Remember our previous conversation about herr’s hydraulic. They told me the s series is just as bad as the 9000 series combine on hydrostat deseign. Suction filtration kit would be good for this combine also. I have read about the more effective flotation that duals produce in comparison to floaters. Food for thought.
@WernerAg
@WernerAg 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Definitely going to go over this combjne with a fine toothed comb before wheat harvest. It's possible it feels thag the hydrostat might be out of alignment so we might take a look at that. Personally I would love to have a set of 650 Firestones but depending on what the price boils down to we might end up with a set of 1250s.
@markhertzog6636
@markhertzog6636 5 жыл бұрын
Werner Farms out of alignment? Are you referring to the position of the hand control? Good luck tire shopping. My guess is 1250’s and rims will be cheaper than 650’s and 4 rims. I’m glad your roads are able to handle the wide stance. Where we are we run 900’s and get around well. On the last combine with duals we were 17’ wide. Very limited with the roads we could travel on. I took the outside rims to a machine shop and had the wheel centers moved to make it overall 15’10”. I was amazed at the difference that Made.

Don't you think that's a bit big for your operation?

Yes but being able to utilize large equipment when bought at a good price and use that large equipment effectively is an increase in overall efficiency.

Ok so you picked up 1000 more to farm so puts ya at 2800 now .. well kinda over kill we custom farm and less is more in the custom biz .. we plant 5000 in the spring with a 16 and a 16/32 then in the fall do 3800 to combine .. and have a S660 and 8 row head and 30 bean head.. on norm day we run 100-120 of corn and we farm some rough stuff and if we get into better running out best day last fall was 28000 bushels for the day and that was a 14 hr day of good going .. but what am trying to say it not how big of a machine u have u have to put time in it and run it .. and yea we got behind a lil cutting beans but cuz of weather but we wasn't the only ones.. but if there was a few days where we was able to run 24hrs none stop so it doesn't take long to catch up .. I just think it hard to pencil spend another 200,000 plus just in harvest equipment let alone am guessing u are going to buy another planter and drop another 150,000 so yea idk seems like over kill so farm that much with 2 combines
@WernerAg
@WernerAg 5 жыл бұрын
Noper don't plan on buying a planter anytime soon for corn. Also we don't plan on running 2 combines just the S690. Gonna trade our 893 and 9650 off for as 612C and possibly consider going from a 35ft MacDon to something a little bigger.

why would u get a s690 to run a 35 head? that thing will play with a 45 footee. seems like way too much machine than what u need. also I demoed a s 670 and that thing had a powerbin too and was lucky to hold 300 bushel before pouring over those canvas corners. I was not impressed at all

Good luck. That thing is gonna be a pain in the ass to break out a field with only a 35 foot head and that huge auger out the back. U may want to keep ur old machine just to break out fields
