Gollum, Obsessed Stalker EDH/Commander Deck Tech!

Gollum is one of the more interesting of the Commander options from the Lord of the Rings Commander precon decks. Let's take a look at how to build this deck, which focuses on lifegain and burn.

One card I love playing with for all my aggro life gain decks with Exquisite Blood. 4U cost enchantment, when an opponent loses life, gain that much life. I can see it comboin'g really hard with Kokusho, generating 15 dmg and 30 life because it doubles the life gain. Likewise, it is also a part of a Vito Infinite combo, so perhaps it is advisable to avoid this for kitchen magic that you would like to return to, but nevertheless, Exquisite Blood can accelerate many of your combos. I mean just with Kokusho/Blood on turn 6, supposing you have pinged everyone with Gollum and have him on the board, that is just a W. 35 damage to each player, and then 105 health back to you.

This looks like such a fun deck, going to build for sure. Which deck has been your favorite that you made with the LOTR themes so far? What deck do you think is the strongest you’ve done?

My personal favorite is the Food deck, just because I used to *hate* food tokens as a mechanic. This made me do an entire 180°. The strongest currently is my Sauron the Dark Lord, I think. I'm going to be tweaking them for a good while and see what becomes the most fun to pilot.

@PlaneswalkerProject i always thought food was a fun token. You get all the benefits of having all of those artifact tokens with the option to offset chip damage. Blood tokens in particular, I think, are absolutely amazing. All your cards now have cycle which is stronger than many think

I had a K'rrik deck that became a kill on sight deck, not because it was strong but because someone else in the group made a CEDH version. So I'm retooling it to be a Gollum deck. It's already 80% complete, and this deck tech will help fill in the gaps

Good list, Helm of the Host might be a really interesting add, it allows you to swing Gollum in multiple directions rather than just one, but it is a bit expensive and kind of slow. Probably not worth the deck slot, but something to consider

Now that you mention it, Helm could also be pretty useful to attach to important set pieces like Kokusho for building board state or Grey Merchant for more drain triggers

On Thrull Parasite you mentioned it didn't affect emblems. maybe I'm missing something but is there a reason it would? Emblems don't tend to deal with counters.

To my understanding, Experience Counters are technically considered emblems, and so their counters cannot be interacted with.

Pontiff of Blight would be a great option to really lean in on Extort

That would be pretty strong too. I wasn't sure if the mana curve could handle the higher cost of the Pontiff, but it would be a really good payoff.
