I bought a house that had been vacant for a couple of years. Pool in the back yard, covered with a tarp. Lifted it up and was greeted by hundreds of frogs in every phase of life. Asked some folks what to do. Many said drain it and to heck with it (them). That did not sit right with me. I contacted a local nature preserve group instead. One guy came out, collected all the critters and he relocated them to nearby ponds. He wrote an article of our adventure which was published in a local paper. Hawks, frogs, squirrels, snakes, birds, chipmunks and such...I get many visitors to my yard. The pool is gone but the critters still visit. However, I do miss the frog chorus once heard around here.

I think I would have tried to find a way to leave them there. I love having wildlife in the backyard, as long as they aren't too crazy.

I hadn't realized how small those frogs are. I've seen pictures of red eyes tree frogs all over the place but you don't really get a sense of scale from them

ChefMimsy yup frogs (and maybe all amphibians?) Don't have a hard palate, so they press their eyes in to have the pressure needed to swallow. Try swallowing now. Notice how your tongue presses on the hard palate to swallow. Imagine if that was soft and flexible, it wouldn't work! So they use their eyes 😁

What you do is so wonderful. 4 of my 5 cats are rescues. I will never buy another pet, only rehome them. My plan for when my kids leave home is to adopt old cats and dogs and fill their last years with love and affection.

Hi Jessi! Thanks for featuring Goma! He’s so cute! He reminds me of a poison dart frog I rescued from a pet store that injured him years ago. I named him Deathstrike. He was about the size of a nickel and bright orange and very friendly.
