As far as I know gon only sacrificed a few decades not his whole life, while that level of nen leaving his body all at once in the final attack and him getting caught in it is what killed him, Killua said that the level gon reached is from a few decades of training, not a life time as far as I know.

Gon is such a good protaganist because of that one line. It's amazing. He starts off someone looking for why his dad wanted to be a hunter instead of staying at home. But instead he became someone who no one wanted him to become. He hated himself at the end. Such an amazing character.

Gon was exuding straight DADDY energy in the episodes leading up to that fight with pitou that you saw. Hunter x Hunter is praised for its writing in this arc because of Gon's personality flip in contrast with how the main antagonist of the arc behaves. Not everyone agrees with liking the last arc but I personally loved what Togashi was going for.

During gons journey he started off happy go lucky but that started changing right about when hisoka popped him in the mouth and because of his philosiphy on the world. Over time he became more darker. Then when kite died you could clearly see his dark side coming out and he starts going back on his philosphy where his friends were the most important to him and would shame others for not caring about their friends like in the phantom troup when he got mad at them when one of their comrades died and seem liked they didnt care. After all the build up of anger and sadness you saw what happened to pitou

Not sure how far you made it into the series but essentially Gon made a conviction that he would be ok never using Nen again (or live at all) if he could gain the power to defeat the one who killed his friend. The way Nen works made it so that all of the potential Gon's life had was converted into raw power for that moment and after the job was done Gon was hanging on to life by a thread. He literally had to be Ret-conned back into the series by Killua's little sister.

In the Chimera Ant Arc Gon found someone close To him and his father (A Nen Hunter named Kite) and they got killed (by Neferpitou (The catgirl in the beginning of the video)) and Gon basically threw everything way to just kill Neferpitou since she couldn’t heal Kite since his brain was feed to the Chimera Ant Queen. So Gon makes a Nen Contract to kill Neferpitou and is the reason he became an Adult Gon from it. Also if anyone gets made for spoilers for this comment, the video itself is a spoiler (Also Trekking101 has a top 10 Chimera Ant Arc list he did and this moment (Gon vs Neferpitou) was on the list and goes into more detail)

My Favorite Part of Hunter X Hunter is whenever Gon gets mad when he is mad you know it just got real. The first time that really happens is with Illumi at the end of the Hunter Exams where Gon just broke his arm for what was categorized as Illumi being mean to Killua, and if Illumi didn't retaliate Gon was probably gonna break more bones. When he gets to Pitou and just sits there I love the pure fear Pitou has of him, just because of the bloodlust he has when it comes to Pitou.

(SPOILER) gon's not dead, he sacrificed all his nen and potential to become op, basically, Kilua said if gon trained INTENSELY for 20 or so years he would be able to be that strong, btw when he is in his adult form he is as strong as a 3rd tier hunter (his dad was a 2nd tier hunter) also getting 3rd tier means destroying a world-class disaster/something that poses a threat to humanity. After he used that form he looked like a raisin and some OP ass girl who I think controls life and death healed him because she/he (I think it's a girl) became friends with kalua and he has to protect her from people who want to use her power (like so he can see)
