Taking time to stop and make coffee and lunch along the way. These are some of the wood burning mini stoves in my collection featuring my favorite and my least favorite and how they operate. It's fun to cook on wood! During our chat we somehow start talking about Common Law Marraige. Why? I don't know, it's just how my brain works (or doesn't) LOL!

I have the big one on left and the smallest one (folding), which I bought from Sportsman Guide about 15 or so years ago and I absolutely love it! I keep it in my hiking packs and b.o.b.'s and although it is dirty, it's so small, efficient and handy that I will never get rid of it.

My wife and I are recent subscribers to your channel, and we enjoy it a lot. I want to comment on you Lixada stove/grill. I got mine back in 2019, and it was branded as a Yoler, but it is not in stock any longer. You're one of the first I've seen test one of these types, and I'll have to say, I really like mine, and wouldn't trade it for any of the other types. Safe travels, y'all !!

Now this is good.. You are like me you like tools that work and work every time you need them .. I have been looking at portable wood burning stoves and you may have solved some of the mystery i have about them.. There is a fellow who builds wood burning stove systems he sells and when he is not in the backcountry fishing mostly he is refining his wood stoves that carry the name "Firebox Stoves".. That man cooks everything on his wood burning stoves , and i mean complete dinners and breakfasts to die for out in the wild.. But so far i have not bought one .. I did not ever read that about the middle stove or anyone on KZbin saying anything .. Now i would say Linda's cooking is great too.. I will look up the stove on your left in the film as it looks like it works fine for me ... Thanks well done ..

Ha! It's always good to have options when needed. I am blessed to be part of this era, more stove choices and truck choices, etc... You two love birds did an awesome video presentation as always. I like the "gasifier" (the one you don't like) for the purpose of mini-bonfire stove next to my rv (due to compact size for storage and less smoke) when camping in the desert where very tiny fire wood is only found. Thank you for sharing. Have a safe travels.

Here's a little hint from my Girl Scount days back in the early 60's...... If you put a little dish soap on the bottom of your pots and up the sides a little, when you are cooking over an open fire, spread it around and when you are done cooking merely wipe it off with a paper towel and your pan is as good as new.

That older, heavier, triangular stove you demonstrated was developed at a Kibbutz for the Israeli armed forces on recon patrols in the desert. A shallow depression would be made at night and the stove inserted and lit using small pieces of wood no larger than a finger in diameter. It kept the flames hidden while allowing cooking and heating water. I have two of them.

Nice video I thought gassifier would have been good choice but I don't like stinky things!! I guess it can be used at night to look at 🔥 fire & cook marshmallows on a stick for gramcrackers for a treat! Hot dogs on a stick it's a snack cooker & a fire lamp or a camping lava lamp gas-fired light?

I like the one you use. I built the one similar to the one in the middle, except their problem is the legs on their unit which hold the pot up are too short not allowing for air to flow around whatever you're cooking with🙄. Linda had a great idea for lunch & I'll be keeping her idea for my road travels. I've never seen the little milk containers, but I use the ones in the size. 👍👍 On the video PS... Personally I prefer the gasifier stove and have used one for a few years now. This is my go to stove anytime. Make your wood chunks bigger, say 1”x3/4” and fill in the gaps with narrower pieces. 3” long is a good length and be sure to stack the wood vertically on end. Let the flame gasify first, you have got cooking heat for 35 to 40 minutes.

I have noticed that the better quality gasification stoves seem to work better. You do need to keep the wood below the ports. That being said they are a pain to add wood to and you have to spend more time processing the wood to fit.

i have one of those round gasifier stoves and i really like it, but my top is different, holds the pot higher over the stove. my bigist complaint is if i am preparing and cooking at the same time the fire burns low, and it takes a minute to get it going again, so its hot then cold than hot again. works great if you have one person cooking and another feeding the fire. i love it because it cooks quick and dosen't use much fuel. if i was in a car i would use a Colman stove, but backpacking its great because it's light and small (if your break it down into its 4 parts) and you don't have to carry fuel.' i haven't tried the other 2, but suspect they use a lot more fuel, and if i was going to do something like those, i would just make a smal camp fire.

I'm not familiar with any of these stoves, so I found this very interesting. I keep a little butane stove handy for when the power goes out . I got it for about $20 an an Asian food market. I get the canisters from a restaurant supply store, and keep about half a dozen on hand. But I love having something I can use without buying canisters. Meanwhile, A YT channel, Justin Credible, is a guy who lives full time in Vancouver BC in usually a Class C or B+ which he renovates and installs a wood burning stove inside. I don't remember what they're called, but I think they are often used on boats. He fixes up his rigs, lives in them for a while, then sells and starts all over with something different, but always with a wood burning stove inside. Justin Credible - you might enjoy checking him out. I noticed you have a propane stove in your cargo trailer. His look very similar, but with wood fuel instead of propane. When the power goes out here, it sure is nice to still be able to make a nice, fresh cup of hot coffee.
@gonagain
@gonagain 4 жыл бұрын
We started out with a wood burner in the trailer but, even though the heat was nice, it was not very convenient when traveling because of the ash (not being able to drive until it was all out and trouble finding places to dump it). That's why we went to the "vented" propane heater. But we still sometimes use it when camping because it's just nice to hear the fire.

Grrrr....the gasifier should be your favorite (at least for boiling water) because it puts out the most heat and the least smoke. But the top is built wrong! It needs taller pot supports so it doesn’t kill the draft. Stupid design flaw. And lunch looks awesome!
@jodyseaman1885
@jodyseaman1885 3 жыл бұрын
Gosh that looked like a good lunch. So when you stop and use your stove to cook lunch how long does the stove take to cool off? How do you store it in your rig?
@gonagain
@gonagain 3 жыл бұрын
If you use one of these for a short stop you, of course, have to deal with the hot ashes. The good thing is that they burn hot and only use a small amount of wood so there isn't much left over in the pan to dump out and a small amount of water does the trick easily. The stove cools off in about 10 minutes or so, depending on the ambient temperature and we store it in the bag it came with, but any cloth bag will do.

If you completely give up on that gasifier you might try to drill some holes around the top edge. It looks like the pots are cutting off proper air flow.

Ok Raven, but first have to begin by saying that Linda is a fantastic cook. That being said, this was just "Annie Chun's" from the local grocery store. They're actually really good and Linda will usually add something, like the baby bok choy you see in the video. Not bad for camping and road trips.

So what time is lunch? Interesting video Rick. I have a little gasifier stove that I made out of cans when I lived in Alaska. It burns much better than the gasifier stove you demonstrated. I think the challenge with your stove is the pot sits to close to the top of stove not allowing enough airflow.

@gonagain
@gonagain 3 жыл бұрын
It looks like a miniature of the big one. This is an early Lixada, but there is still a stove just like it being made. As a big fireplace it would be great, but putting a pan on top chokes the air too much.
