Gotta say I love how these mashups sort of both point out the similarities between songs accused of plagiarism, and then add in like 50 more songs to lampoon the idea that they're truly derivative of a single other song and show that there's a huge spectrum of songs that have various similarities. Some people get way too concerned about originality. The most important thing is to make some fuckin' bangers, and this is a hell of a banger 🤘
@BB_Sebring2 жыл бұрын
Agreed, especially with the broken state of copyright these days. With only three big record labels (almost every major artist signs away ownership of their music to them and thus are the ones who are actually upset), they can ensure that everything only ever benefits them. It's the same with sampling in my eyes so long as you admit, unlike Vanilla Ice who tried his best to convince people that he didn't sample "Under Pressure" by Queen and David Bowie for his song "Ice Ice Baby". There will always be some level of derivitiveness in any piece of media, it's unavoidable whether intentionally or by accident. It just makes you wonder how things would be if everything were like Touhou: where characters, music, and basically everything can be copied freely for people to use in their own projects (even monetized) so long as the original creator Zun is credited and they follow his rules on how to represent his characters. He's basically the anti-Nintendo and record labels

I agree to an extent. yes, there are tons of songs out there and it's hard to come up with something truly original. in modern music, it's insanely easy to make a song that 'sounds good' by using popular chord progressions, reusing hit song structures, using things that are already proven to 'work'. because of this, artists who experiment with music, who strive to make something unusual, distinct or unique (though it might not sound all that good) should be more appreciated.

2:45 Okay I don't know the technical terminology, but the build up of tension then the full stop of the music right before the whole song all explodes in your ears at once near the end is just HEAVENLY. I'm just gonna call it the sussy beat drop, it's honestly my favourite reasons why I love rock songs so much. "Sussy beat drop" is incredible
@kelsanna1432 жыл бұрын
Idk if there is an actual term for it (or if you wanted a real answer), but I'm pretty sure this is just a sound illusion. So prior to 2:45 the music was a bit louder, then at 2:45 the music got quieter (or the instrumental cut out at least giving the illusion that it's quieter), and then it goes back to the same volume as prior to 2:45. The tempo might have also slowed down at 2:45 as well. It's a build up of energy. It's used in a lot of pop songs as when you build energy of the song (typically with volume and tempo) you can't just keep doing that or your song becomes a mess. So if you cut back at a certain point and then release it, it feels like it was reenergized. At least I'm pretty sure that's what this was. A good example of this is in Ninja Sex Party in their song Danny Don't You Know (around 4:00).

I think Q knows. I noticed Boulevard of Broken Dreams and We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together both appeared in this mashup. Both of those two songs, barring style, have the same similarities musically to good 4 u that Misery Buisnes has. Adam Neely had a fantastic breakdown of it, so if y’all haven’t seen that, you should check it out.
@blackmaskly35852 жыл бұрын
In my opinion, the genius of this mashup is the fact that pretty much every song involved can be intrinsically tied together from a perspective of meaning, as well as music. Firstly, the obvious ones: Good 4 U and Misery Business. Both tackle the interruption of a relationship by a third party, but from completely opposite perspectives. The contrast between both songs is clear in their tones: Misery Business is triumphant, a confident "screw you" to the person who she felt stole his heart before she could take it for her own, where Good 4 U is full of resentment to the person in question, and his apparent apathy towards the singer. After that, we get Disaster of Passion, which encapsulates how head over heels in love our singer was with the person in question, willing to follow them to the ends of the earth. Appropriately, the song title also serves to represent the tragedy of the breakup - it's passing is the Disaster of our singer's Passion. Both Never Getting Back Together and Shut Me Up are utilized for further accentuation of our singer's bitterness and resentment towards her ex-lover, much more aggressive and blunt in delivery, practically taunting him with how much she "really doesn't care, try and stop me after that break up." Enter the immediate contrast of Boulevard of Broken Dreams, which proves that the aforementioned was all indeed a front. Our singer clearly feels she walks alone, isolated, the most important person to her having left her for some other person. I like to interpret the incorporation of Immigrant Song's iconic scream as a literal internal scream that cannot be vocalized because doing so would compromise the aggressive front... Which inevitably unveils itself anyways. Crushing Thirties is, once more, a reflection on the happier, jubilant past life of love our singer shared with this guy, which will unfortunately never be re-attained. It's not "30 Years Ago" unobtainable, but love can certainly feel that way. I would even argue the brief Planet Wisp motif also encapsulates the feeling that what was once your home and place of comfort has now been corrupted, and requires a lot of time to truly mend. We then get more of the original piece with the Trapper's theme from Inscryption. This is especially cool to listen to, and conveys several messages at once - maybe it means our singer feels like prey being hunted and skinned by heartbreak? Maybe she's the hunter, waiting for her revenge on the girl that stole her love? Or maybe, on a meta level, she is like the opponent in Inscryption, isolated from the rest of the world to the point where only random chance can save her from the depression and boredom of life (the interpretation I lean to most because of the line "maybe I was too emotional...")? Many messages can be taken from this, and I consider it super cool. And yes, *even the sussy carries meaning to it.* With the relationship dead and gone, the memories formed from it feel fake, unreal, a ghost of the past. One could even say that the ex's feelings towards the singer were, at least for a time, entirely fabricated... The front of an Impostor, if you will. Admittedly, I've not played the Yakuza games, and as such I have... Zero clue what the incorporation of this backing track is. Since I don't wish to be spoiled on these games, I'll leave that interpretation up to you, the reader and listener, as well as anyone who knows Yakuza lore and can relate the struggles detailed here to Kiryu's saga. All this to say, this mashup absolutely slaps, and compelled me to read deep and find a narrative out of what was probably just a bunch of meme picks that sounded good when combined as they were. Props to you, Triple-Q.
@MorfsPrower2 жыл бұрын
I'd love to post my perspective on the Yakuza side, but to respect your wishes on spoilers (cuz the franchise is GARGANTUAN worth going in blind) I'll just say that it's only somewhat relevant to this narrative, but at the same time fits it like a glove. It mostly has to do with his internal emotions after several chapters. In relation to a love life though, that's a different character, and/or a different title in the series.

This is like a really weird, but also really hype act one finale to a musical. We've got the anti-heroine singing about her success at getting the boy of her dreams while his jilted psycho ex is making thinly-veiled threats to burn his house down. We've got two thirty year old best friends stuck in a dead end retail job, and one is clearly about to snap. We've got two guys about to battle to the death in the sewers. We've got the guy singing about his loneliness and isolation as he's stuck in the shadow realm forced to play card games with a bearded demon. And we've got this cute weeb girl who's just vibing, oblivious to the drama going on around her.
