I couldn't find another video like this and i'm glad you found it helpful! A lot of what is one the internet is over glamorized which makes it a little hard for people to truly evaluate their future careers if we aren't being real.

in Europe, where I'm from, everyone who pays taxes gets their paid maternity and paternity leave. In my country the state pays maternity compensation until your child is 1,5 years old (your full salary), so you don't have to come back to your job so early (whether a dentist or anything else, as long as you pay taxes). It seems to me what you describe is not as much a professional problem but US problem. And I'm really sorry you had to leave your newborn baby so early and endure all these challenges because there's no social security in your country
@Joycethedentist10 ай бұрын
That sounds amazing. What about for small businesses??
@tamaraborzova266410 ай бұрын
@@Joycethedentist anyone who pay taxes gets their maternity compensation from the government, although you would need to find someone to take care of your business, it’s practically impossible for them to “steal” your business

Actually even people who didn’t have any job or business before they fell pregnant get some governmental support (minimal but still) as well as medical insurance and child support

No dentistry is 100% physically laborious! I have to strengthen my body and stretch every day so I can practice pain free 💪🏼

Right?! People think it’s just a finger movement when it’s really a whole body thing. Lots of massages, cupping, acupuncture

Almost every dentist has some form of work-related pain. This could be in the shoulders, back, neck or even your legs. I started Endodontics training this year and thought that some of these problems may be reduced because I am working with microscopes daily and we are doing even more fine hand movements. However, when you go to Endodontics practices, you find that even they have different chairs for the clinicians because there are a whole new set of work-related injuries to deal with in Endo. I would only say that dentistry is a good health profession for a female as we do not have to deal with night shifts and on-call like physicians (as you mentioned). However, I would not recommend this profession (or any profession) if you are only doing it for the prestige or money, because it is a tough job and you can quickly burn out if you do not have a real passion or interest in it.

agree with number one, a couple of my colleagues are having back pain, neck soreness, and eye strain, within a few years of graduating. Saver environment, it depends. There are just more crazies unstable people there. 3 days ago, a new orleans dentist was stabbed in her office 😢 if I can have a do over, I will change my job to something in tech where I can work from home and be physically available for my kids.

I just saw that! It’s so sad that she was stabbed :( there goes my “safe environment” statement. I’m with you on being able to stay home!

I understand what you are saying, but what profession in even made to be suitable for women anyways ? I guess a remote work would make it easier
@Joycethedentist10 ай бұрын
Definitely something that allows remote work, which is not usually a traditional avenue for dentistry.

Is your staff full time? And does that mean you have to pay them while your are out? Also, as a mom of a pre-dental student, I am very appreciative of your videos.

I have both full time and part time. My hygienist is able to pick up temp work if I give her enough notice. My full timers get paid as full time even when I’m not there.
