I love how they try to blow over the fact that Christina made him uncomfortable by making it seem as if he was a perv. She talked about him sniffing her while the sex scenes or whatever. She kept saying weird stuff during interviews about him. Which made him feel like she was making him out to be like he was sexually harassing her. He basically started low key didn’t want to deal with her. So he didn’t take the pay cut because working with her was risky by what she was saying about him. I don’t blame him. The weird things she would say could ruin his reputation around Hollywood. Not worth it. Besides they knew Rio is what kept the going. Beth could’ve been replaced … she brought nothing special to the character anyway.

This is full on about egos. Yep, the show is about 3 working Moms, but everyone knows that the fans were watching the show for Manny's scenes. He steals every scene he's in. Even the ones with his brousin. I think the cast was jealous he became a bigger and bigger part of the show and there was no reason for him to take a pay cut, when the fans were literally watching it for him. I would fast forward through some of the ridiculously boring "family" discussions. In an ensemble cast, sometimes the small cast member becomes the fan favorite, especially an attractive male character in a female driven show. Let's not forget how "Spike", a one episode character on Buffy became basically a co-starring role. (SMG wasn't thrilled with his rise either) You would think a real actor with integrity would be happy that you have a cast member that is lightning in a bottle. The wouldn't have ever watched more of the show if he wasn't in it. The women were just to annoying. His character is the only smart one.

The way they all threw Manny under the bus is such trash. Like Manny not wanting to take a paycut absolutely make sense when you understand he is still a unknown compared to Christina Hendricks who is most likely getting top billing on the show, its a star vehicle for her. Christina taking a paycut isn't the same as Manny taking that paycut, who most likely isn't getting paid as much because he isn't popular yet. I really hope Rhetta wasn’t implying Manny is the one at fault, because as a Black woman in the industry she out of anyone in the cast should understand the power dynamics wage gap, and inequality and that not being paid your worth, is detrimental. Ultimately the responsibility lies with the network, that is who the onus lies with. Not the up and coming actor who is a man of color, who is like 5th on the call sheet. Christina, Anna, and Rhetta are more brand recognizable Christina because of Mad Men, Anna because of voice over and Scott Pilgrim vs the World, Rhetta because of Parks & Rec and being a long time vet in the comedy scene. Their paycut was most likely higher and so the paycut (probably still would of been rough, cuz women are underpaid in the industry) but it still would of been higher than Manny's pay. Blaming one actor, for the cancellation of a show, is fuckery of the highest degree. It's the network execs, & studio who is at fault here. We all know there are plenty of shows that aint great that still get more seasons because the networks want to givenit time to find an audience, if this show were primarily a male casted show, I'm sure they would have extended the show without asking for them to take a paycut, not to mention the show was also working with a lower budget than other shows, cuz surprise surprise women led shows don't usually get the proper funding they need. Manny was done dirty honestly.

It's been highly suspected by many fans that the lead CH as well as the two other female leads were low-key jealous that the Rio character was a hit among fans and was a breakout role. The writers nor producers early on did not expect his character to be such a hit with the audience and initially his role wasn't meant to go for as long as it did. CH didn't like him or the popularity he was getting and so the other two actresses sort of followed her lead. She was allegedly also good friends with the show runner or on one of the producers and was doing things behind the scenes to limit his screen time. Not everyone has to be besties on set, but it was pretty well known things were ice cold between them on set which is ironic given the fact they had great chemistry in scenes together. So when it came time to renegotiate contracts for the final season the Rio character didn't agree to the pay cut. There were other factors involved as well but money was a contributing factor.

If he was replaced or written out, the series would have plummeted. So even though we were left on a cliffhanger, I will take it versus them destroying the series.

The primary audience of this show is women, so YES most of you are biased about Rio and I’m going to give Manny credit for doing an incredible job at playing Rio, but I think I gotta say that I was sat for Beth, Ruby, and Annie’s storylines, not Rio’s. This show falls victim of some really bad writing tropes and I’m going to blame the writers for flopping so hard. While many of you are blinded by the thirst of Rio, he could’ve had so much more of an interesting storyline. Instead we got a constant repeat of his actions and even his positive moments are overshadowed by his bad moments. While many will blame Beth, I definitely think she had a lot of angles to her story arc and Rio was constantly written as the blockade. All in all, I genuinely think Rio is a major and fun character that adds great dynamics to the main characters, but is held down by his god awful storylines and bland writing. Again I want to preface that a ton of you are blinded by him being the hot criminal guy and ignore that his character arc is terrible and did nothing but rinse and repeat all the time.

I believe he tried but she was too snobbish especially getting upset about her name being shortened by him. She could have very kindly told him in private that she prefers to be called by her full name n ask him not to tk offence. I thought it conveyed a sort of primal intimacy for him, a man who loves the scent of "you". The same way brushing the hair off her forehead with his little finger conveyed a strangely protective intimacy. I guess the rest of the cast doesn't understand character creation. I also agree it was all jealousy. He became the draw for the show and why people were talking about it. If they had leaned into it and given him even more screen time, they could have all had a couple more seasons. Hollywood egos.

Absolutely NO ONE watched the show because of ANY other cast member but Rio. It was clear from the first episode that he was the breakout star of the show and he brought the sex appeal, heat, mystery, and dynamics. All the other cast members were boring af, annoying, and I skipped as much of their scenes as possible. Ruby’s husband was gross. I hate his character and his mouth gave me the creeps. Dean was a whiny sniveling weasel and nothing to look at. None of the women were attractive at all, so literally the best part of the show was Rio. Really they should just make a show about Rio and bring back a replacement character of Beth…. Like his new love interest killed Beth, so now he wants to kill her yet he falls in love with her. I wonder who in their right mind (Christina, Retta) would make similar insinuations about a colleague from the same series in public statements. It's work, we don't have to like or love each other if we create something valuable, and the Good Girls series, despite its flaws, was something new and original. From the very beginning, the producers made Rio the main plot of the story, yes, Rio, and not a gangster, mafia or crime plot. If Rio were to start selling fake kitchen spices, the girls would probably take it up ... 😂so if Manny (probably after talking to his manager) decided that he should receive a higher salary (similar to the roles of the three main actresses), he was not wrong. Moreover, the series had to end, the character of Rio very quickly ceased to be a left-field bussinessman and an ordinary unscrupulous criminal (killing Lucy, a graphic designer). And what's worse, the main characters also lost out (at this point I became indifferent to their fate). Unfortunately, the script after season 1 went in the wrong direction, the potential was wasted, the producers did not take care of good relations on the set. Although I still think they did a good job with season 4. The plot with Annie and Mick is very surprising. Beth working with Rio at the end, also interesting, together as partners, on equal terms, without Mick and the brother cousin keeping the leash short. Surely Beth would get Annie out of jail, fingerprints on gun sure serious , but Annie could definitely testify and, thanks to Beth's money, hire a good defense attorney. She would have been released sooner or later, and in the meantime she would probably have become quite a sensation in the prison among other inmates. I wouldn't worry about her ;) Beth stopped fooling herself, probably finally got divorced and broke up with Dean, and became a fulltime con artist.

There is no way, the series could have gone on without Manny. He carried it even with the little screen time he got. They were all ok, but lets get real. All we were waiting for was for Rio to show up in every episode.

Manny didn't carry the show let's not pretend he did, just because someone's getting shited on doesn't mean you have to invent credit for this person. He got mistreated and that's that, his character was well executed but not ground breaking at all, just the typical latino trash caricature you'd expect and he did it well.

I watched this show for the plot and the plot was rio....listen the series finale with that ending I mean come on it would have potentially changed the roles of rio and beth whereas he would be doing whatever she told him at least that's what it looked like to me 😅
