Would you pick wisteria or water sprite over hornwort ? I'm seeing some say that hornwort and water sprite makes more of a mess with shedding leaves ? Also seems like the fish really enjoy the hanging roots a lot on the wisteria and sprite.
@TheWaterBox
@TheWaterBox 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! and I would pick both. Two different plants here so it really depends on what kind of look you want. Shredding leave shouldn't be a problem unless the plant it dying for some odd reason. Fish will like any hiding spots when they feel less than secure, regardless if it's roots or leaves or whatever. They don't care WHAT kind of hiding spot it is, only that it is a hiding spot.

Glad you enjoyed. Carpet plants are hard to chose for a low light tank which is what this video covers. If you're setting up something with more light, monte carlo, Hemianthus Callitrichoides 'Cuba' and Glossostigma Elatinoides are something to look at. I think the latter two of the three requires a lot of lighting. I know the Hemianthus Callitrichoides 'Cuba' does. Thanks for watching

Nice vid brother, I have most of what you mentioned. Duckweed omg I had it hitchhike in on a plants and boom. Was good as it have my fry places to hide as it covered my floating wisteria. Not sure if you caught it during Cory's feed last week where he found out that duckweed actually lowers the oxygen in a tank. I keep mine under control and use an airstone so not an issue for me. Kudos on another awesome vid!

The Water Box for the plants that you stated are low light, will they do well in brighter lighting? Are there a certain type plant that only do well in low lighting?
@TheWaterBox
@TheWaterBox 6 жыл бұрын
Most plants will do better with more lighting. It'll make them grow lush. Especially with co2 supplement and enough ferts to feed on. There ARE some plants that don't like bright lighting. That tank behind me is usually low light, diffusing co2 set up (That set is about $25) and a simple all in one fert regiment. All the plants I mentioned in this video will go good in the lighting I have in that tank. If you want to be super certain they can take low light then java ferns, java moss, moss balls and anubius do great in it. They will grow slow but they will do well.
@TheWaterBox
@TheWaterBox 6 жыл бұрын
You can always look them up when you see something you want to buy as sometimes, certain species of that family of plants do need higher lighting but in a common fish store or big box store, they will be most likely selling you low light plants.

Great video! Very informative! Quick question on crazy glue gel. How long does it take to dry before you can place it in the tank! E.G. annubius on driftwood! Just curious! I've been hesitating using it for my annubius/java fern for the driftwood I have.
@TheWaterBox
@TheWaterBox 7 жыл бұрын
Depends but if the surface or rhizome is a little wet the glue will cure faster (moisture is cause a reaction to the Cyanoacrylate). For me with some moisture on the surface or plant, it take like 5 to 10 seconds but it should take no more than like 30 seconds really. It's fast and easy. It may turn whitish for a week or so where the glue hardens but it should go away over a few weeks.

Regarding the tank in your background and a previous video in this series: do you do CO2 in that tank? I'm also setting up a 10g tank and was curious how/if you handled CO2 in it. If so, I'll probably go the Fluval kit that you suggested (unless there's a better option you'd suggest nowadays).
@TheWaterBox
@TheWaterBox 2 жыл бұрын
I just used the Fluval 20g passive system and make sure there was enough fert and light to work with the plants in the tank.

There's really one store I go to and that's CK Fish World in West Covina but it's about a 40min drive for me but it's so far a place that has the best selections I've seen. Nothing in the valley that I know of. MAYBE Underwater Depot has some good selection but you have to get there when they just get a shipment in because their sell out fast.

You know I've got plants in my tank but since I'm living in Taiwan the weather is always like at least 30 degrees Celsius. I tried doing lily pads and they croaked. so far I've got anubias would seem to be able to survive. I do use liquid fertilizer but I'll be using root as well. I don't know what planet that I found that sort of looks like long grass but it's used in the back of your tank and that plant seems to be doing quite well. and surprisingly the plants that you helped me named last week they haven't broke yet I have no idea why. There there are stem plant and you said it looked really awesome. You know believe it or not I'm a Christian and I actually pray over my I asked God to keep my fish healthy and my plants. it might sound funny but I actually tell my fish that they're strong healthy bettas and. My plants are strong healthy plants and they're going to be lucious and green. I started doing this after the lily pads. And everything else seems to be doing fine. I had my first bacterial Bloom never had one in the two years I've been running the hobby. Did a water change ran the filter now it's crystal clear I really want to make videos from Taiwan and teach people about what the fish hobbies like. My major was cross-cultural communication but my dream is to be able to open a store where I can create aquariums or people can come in and learn how to create their own aquariums. I'm self-supporting Christian missionary and I do have a job that I do in Taiwan. it's a paid position but I've done it for so long and I feel like I need a job where I can just work with things that don't. in the last two years I found more joy and creating aquascaping for my tanks and learning how to raise bettas in a very limited society. But I know her stuff out there it's just really. like a bag of aquarium soil from Japan which we recently just got it's the equivalent of 40 US dollars. so I had to go but cheaper route into gravel with liquid fertilizer and then hopefully adding root tabs next month. Please don't hate me I have colored gravel. When I first started I had no one to guide me. I have one tank that has black gravel with Jade like real jade that's been polished and smooth out. There's a nice little filter and of course a bunch of plants. I actually need to add some more gravel to that. and I recently just got a gravel vac and I couldn't believe it was only five US Dollars the ones at the pet store man there about $25 USD. But what I do find surprising is help keep the plants are. You can get four types of 5 USD. They're healthy they're green they're lush. My tanks consist of 2 to 3.5 gallons. but I was surprised how much I was able to fill my tanks with just a little bit of plants.

Normally in a planted tank you should as carbon is known to take out nutrients your plants can use. I always advise to not use chemical filtration unless you need to for a specific reason. Most of the time you don't really need it.

hi, great to the point video! I'm planting up a tank in the coming days, and like the plants in the tank behind you, the middle brown plant , is that a crypt wendtii brown? looks perfect for what I want to do, next to it, would that be a wendtii green? lastly, the plant in the substrate on the right, is that dwarf sag? thanks for your time!
@TheWaterBox
@TheWaterBox 7 жыл бұрын
Hey ya! Yeh, middle brown is crypt wendtii brown. Next to it is a compacta sword. Behind it is java ferns (common) and correct, dwarf sag on the front. Behind the dwarf sag that you can't really see is Blyxa Japonica.
@Quint1975
@Quint1975 7 жыл бұрын
The Water Box thanks for replying I've been trying to accurately identify the wendtii brown, it looks great in contrast. Is the stem in the background rotala rotundi? We're you using co2 in that tank and what ferts did you use if any? I'm a dedicated shrimp keeper but now preparing a low tech planted tank and have earmarked crypts, ludwigia red, and dwarf sag as a carpet plant. Does dwarf sag become quite thick? I meant to add, is the brown wendtii same as bronze?
@TheWaterBox
@TheWaterBox 7 жыл бұрын
The background is Rotalia Indica which really is close to rotundi. At the time I made this video, I was using the EI dosing method at the low tech dosage. I have since stopped dosing and it's still doing great but then again, it's all low tech easy plants. Co2, I used a passive system. The Fluval 20g set which is only like $20. If you go with it, make sure you just buy the threaded cartridges used for bike tire inflating. as refills Much much cheaper. Dwarf Sag only becomes thick and BIG (and grows incredibly fast) if you have major Co2 AND rich nutrient substrate/dosing going on. Woth out both in a low tech tank is does GREAT as a "carpet". It gets long for a "carpet" plant but you can trim it down.

I usually only get my plants from Aquarium Coop, one time I was checking around for different kinds of plants and stumbled on Justin's site. BIG Mistake! I ordered two bunches of plants the Coop didn't carry, I liked the way they looked so I ordered them. That was probably 3 months ago and I haven't been able to get rid of the BBA since. As soon as I think it's gone, it shows up in another tank (I put some in each of 3 tanks) or it's back in the first tank. And I take the infected plants out, spray them with hydrogen peroxide, then either the BBA dies and the snails clean them or the plants can't take it and turn clear and die off. You have the choice to buy from him or not, my choice is to stick with Aquarium Co-op! 😣
