I pop Terra Magicus, Rain of Stars, then Dark Moon so the rain prevents anyone trying to get close. Then after that I use Cannon of Haiman I think its called immediately after moon so in case they dodge out of the moon they usually are caught by the cannon

I hate SoR sooo much. I use star shower as it’s actually balanced. Also the Night Sorceries are ignored by Eternal Darkness. And real chads use the Darkness incantation as it’s low FTH req and gives great change ups/stall tactics. Ice storm is another option for stalling. :)

It's not even just using a good spell. Eternal Darkness alone won't save you, since it's more effective when the opponent doesn't learn how to deal with it. The is flat-out good spell _combination_ as well.

Every time i see Mage Builds in Elden Ring i wonder why more people don't use more defensive spells, and the second i saw Eternal Darkness, needless to say i was very confused why a squishy caster that highly benefits from fighting at a range wouldn't want to be completely safe while being that far away. Nice to see it's getting some more attention.

Because most people focus on dmg. If they can get rid of you in fraction of a second, then why would they need any defence? Most of them can’t even roll. Same with most people using ROB and such.

The only issue lies in the fact that Eternal Darkness is hard countered by Bolt of Gransax, which everyone has, and likely any high level mage can use since dex is a good stat for the increased casting speed. Honestly what I would like is AoE spells or incantations that disable weapon arts. Something similar to Vow of Silence. Don't want to see anything like Tranquil Walk of Piece again, but never understood why they would remove counter spells and incantations. Most of the time though how I counter Stars of Ruin Mages is the pulley crossbow with sleep arrows in my off hand. Man does it feel great catching people with that and then smacking them down. Wish I knew about the Halo Scythe sooner though, since its WA is the only thing in the game that prevents chuggers.

That's primarily because there aren't that many great defensive options for sorcerers. Incantations are a different matter, but sorceries barely have anything defensive.

I watched someone spam malenia with Night Sorceries and she melted in a relatively old vid, I tried it myself just a few weeks ago and she dodged them very consistently. @@matt6231 Yeah, important thing about Eternal Darkness is knowing its limitations. Hell, even projectiles that it DOES absorb can be dangerous because there's a chance they can still hit you as they orbit the black hole.

It's a fantastic game. Arguably the best fromsoft has made. It's not perfect though and the others are still definitely worth playing even in light of all the things people have to say about Elden ring. Bloodborne is still my personal favorite The PvP can also be fun after a fashion.

Depends on one's priorities I guess. It has pretty much the 2nd best spell scaling in the game, so it's really a question of whether you value being able to cast MANY spells, or a few really strong ones.

@@Galasky- if you have the right Faith score to use it the optimal spell scaling is the prince of death staff and that one doesn't have the FP penalty of Lusat. But of course the trade-off there is you have to have a faith score within 10 points of your intelligence score to get the optimal scaling. Which makes it difficult if you'd rather have those points and something else likes a strength or mind or whatever Example: 80 intelligence, 70 faith. I might have some of these numbers slightly wrong but it's pretty close to that even if I am

It does not. It's purely for obstructing enemy spells and incantations. However, SOME projectiles are immune to its effect. Things that are super fast or deal physical damage tend to ignore eternal darkness

Believe it or not I've actually gotten a kill with it before. I don't use it for damage dealing so much as area denial. I wasn't sure when this guy would try to rush me, so I thought I'd throw it out there to mess with him a little.

@@TJtbh45 I'm gonna be honest, I often neglect to use Eternal Darkness more I'm more of a long-range and close-range mage fighter, mix of Carian and Glintstone sorceries. The only sorcery I have in my 12 slots (yes I use all 12) that's "looked down" upon is Stars of Ruin. I use it for last resorts without spamming or against bleed builds. But I would never think to use the mist in PvP, I actually used a combo that you should try at some point, at Phalanx spell combined with Collapsing Stars. Enemies don't wanna be close to you, so you gotta bring them yourself.

@@patrollingthemojavealmostm2698 NM'sM is excellent for area denial, but it's also great to just throw at an ally who's engaging an enemy, since friendly summons/hosts don't take the damage from it. It also travels a deceptively long distance if you angle your cast up, making it decent as a way to attack from stealth if you can learn the arc. You can also pair it with AoW White Shadow (needs a name check) or Shadow Bait for pve, guaranteeing that some enemy types stay in the cloud and just melt.

also if an opponent is coming at you with a bubble Shield active, if they're not paying attention it's really useful for deactivating their bubble Shield because it only needs to touch them once.

Good mages are build to invade not just 1v1. Having you glintblades active once you invade a world help if the host have an ambush set. Remember kids my way is not the “good” or the “best” way to mage!!

bear in mind i'm mildly over leveled in this video, but my general stat alignment is something like 80 int, 40 or 50 strength. 20 faith for spells with a faith requirement. the rest into vig, mind and endurance. I think of my build EXACTLY at the moment. but it's something like that
