i second this. i got forest for ps4 and i tried playing through but i had to give up because comes night time, or even just hunting rabbits when they run in the shadow, it’s just too dark. can’t see anything. unplayable.

@@qwizdom3873 Completely agree. I have to constantly change the brightness setting to be able to see anything when it's not full daylight. I understand that they want the scare factor; but it's almost impossible to see the rabbits unless they are near the edge of some water with the shadows and grass density.

The difference between PS4 and PC, is that they can allow you to tweak the settings much more on PC, because if you fry your PC, its your own fault, you should know the limitations of your system. Console players expect their PS4 to be able to do anythimg. When in reality it cant. Your 4K TV is useless to console gamers. Also i play the forest on PS4, the brightness is fine. Youre not suppose to be able to see in the shadows

Something about the music really works with this game. It hasn’t changed since I first started watching this channel. I think if I were a cannibal standing and watching someone run around throwing rocks at rabbits for almost 2 days, then walk up to poles with skulls on them and stare at them, then just knocking them down and collecting the skulls and running back to their hut, I'd be the scared one.

Its so annoying that you have to light your effigies on fire in order for them to have an effect like that doesnt make any sense... I've made like 10 Large ones and put them next to my base doors (just for the visual) but i hope next game that effigies will have an effect just from building them

I would like to see how you can trap the cannibals, maybe find their route and make them jump from a ramp into an enclosed space that they can't get out? Obviously it wouldn't get rid of all the enemies but it would be pretty cool to trap them. Then all of sudden the mutants come barging through the forest and break them free. Just a thought.

I started exactly like that a few weeks ago! From there , it's natural to build a boat-house and colonise the big island nearby for more safety in depositing resources ,visit the main village(for map+compass+axe+booze+cloth) and katana cave ...feathers from fence+birdhouses ... 1 small trip at yacht for ropes, to build sap collectors nearby anchor, then fully upgraded weapons... 1 small hunt in the north with a mini-base like that ... After that, rebreather + crossbow and i was ready for end-game ! If you have time, show us how to properly defeat every encounter on hard survival. Best weapon choice / strategy. I can't defeat a group of 6 painted cannibals after 2 weeks (they are too fast for dynamite, too strong for arrows, too many for melee , too fast to retreat after engaging), or 2 cow mutants later(permanent stun, full bone armor goes down very fast). Stealth and swim save the day !

Hi Farket, I really liked your approach in studying the cannibals (the 'enemies' in this game are very unique). Maybe you can make more, maybe with a theme like: - Make an obstacle course for them to get to the Drying Rack - Build a working arena (with effigies or wooden family as public) - Build a prison (rehabilitation center) for the cannibals etc. "What makes the cannibals in the Forest such a great adversary, that they still can scare and fascinate us after hundreds of hours."

PS4 players! I use a pitch black room, highest in game light option, and have been tweaking with my Plasma tv. And now it works quite fine. I'm relying on my hearing when I can't see, every animal, cannibal, creature etc. has specific sounds they make. Although, I do agree that underwater view I terrible on the PS4. It's like swimming in milk. And Farket! You are a King.

I have 389 days played and i have not really left fertile lands :/ they only come from one area if you do plan on living there. and it is off in the direction farket is pointing too. FYI the best spot for beginners. But yea ever since i found out about this spot a year ago from yours truly Farket, i always come here. I liked the suggestions Zebulon made in the Discord. Surviving a specific amount of days (eg 100) without using for example anything modern (exception the lighter, no other way to make fire). So NO modern axe, no flares, no modern arrows/bow, aso. I also liked the no-logs-challenge, so you never cut down trees :) I wonder how the cannibals behave if you'd never fell trees. How their hostility is then. I'd also love to see your battle skills more.. so cave-exploring would be cool and your methods in encountering the enemies in these small and dark areas. :) Which weapons you use when, where's the safest position to stand on (standing on a plateau, throwing bombs? or swinging the axe and running into the masses, screaming your fierce war cry?) You built gigantic structures in every season now, you might consider doing something else now, for the not-building-obsessed of us. :P

The cannibals still fuck with you even if you never kill them or chop down trees. Tree stumps make them more aggressive in that specific moment, instead of pussyfooting around like they normally do theyll come right at you. Ive made it to like day 20 without killing any and they still beef you every time they see you

I think the pond close to the Yacht is the best start location. Everything there, plus easy access to Caves 1-5. The cannibal huts provide a good start shelter, but I liked building my house on the pond itself. Cost's a bit more, but there are so many trees right there it doesn't matter even without tree regrow.

@Farket My suggestion: In the place you are at 3:40 in the video, a small plateau with an even smaller plateau just by the shore below you, you could build a nice, 3 story base there, connecting the middle plateau with the area above (just "behind" the main village), and build a small port/harbor below, by the shore, with a crane. Hope it gives you at least some inspiration, cheers!

whenever I start a new game (I'm new to the Forest) but I just find the sun and keep walking east. Sadly I had a pretty bad plane spawn with pretty much nothing of use (barely any meds, booze, bars, soda, and cloth) so now i'm on that cliff thing with all the ponds and berries living off of deer, people, and berries while making daily 'raids' on the nearby cannibal camp for cloth and booze. Things are looking pretty good and i'm preparing for a cave.

The fertile lands now get infested with cannibals since the update. You have to block the paths where they can cross the water, and the path off the cliff.

You could make a base in or around the plane or you could do this season in the snowy/northern end of the map or you could do multiple smaller bases or builds so you don’t get bored of one build

I normally build my camp on the other side of the lake from where you are. I build a foundation bridge from where I am to a point just to the right from where you are now. Lots of materials for what you need here. lots of turtles on the beach Southeast of you. I find dear and beaver on the plateau above you. I am a PC player. No mods. Just peaceful until I get a good handle on the game.

i build on the little sand bar near the shippin containers, its good cause alot of cannibals roll up and easy bones and enough turtles for food. me and my group also build a layer of walls and keep like armor and anything to heal or kill in there, and we also make a bridge over to the smaller island in the distance. its really good for safety and its my go to place

I just make tree houses all over the map, each with a meat rack and a rain collector... I'm never far from shelter or a save point and I've set up no more then 3 zip lines from high ground locations so I can give the cannibals the runaround with incredible ease. I've moved away from building singular large structures, having lots of little 'out of sight' camping spots makes my presence much less noticed and much easier to manage.

Bunch of modern arrows near the old cockpit location (uphill), always go there and craft a bow, It's the best weapon in my opinion because of the rate of fire. (Also being able to carry more spears is useful against mutants, so craft a spear bag as fast as you can) ;)

The best start for beginners is NORMAL difficulty, doesn't matter where you build, in the end it all depends on you, do you wanna build a shelter on the edge of the map? Or do you wanna build a bigass base in the middle and conquer everyone? Im building between Geese lake and the Great butthole (they try to raid me sometimes while cutting trees but 80 strength wrecks them)

If you are taking suggestions would you try the base setup I use in the fertile lands? You have to close with a wall the pocket area with the pond in the upper south part. It's a large wall far from the house so mobs aren't alerted to it. You bring all logs from a zipline from the area south across the river near the Mideastern shore. Near the main cannibal village. Zipline logholder mod is reccomended.

You should build some tactical bases like compounds in the fertile lands, what i mean is using the environment and buildables to best defend yourself from later on when Mutants hunt you down. I think it could be quite fun and possibly a bit challenging?

And don’t speed it up so we can see how many times it actually takes to bring someone down and the best and fastest ways of doing that.
