It goes beyond that. If it's female masturbation. X. NC17. If it's a male and it's just as graphic...R. If it's a straight scene, that's an R. if it's a gay scene. X! NC17! By the way, the MPAA is largely a conservative group and of course "the conservatives are the TRUE party of freedom of speech" Just forget/ignore/deny a long long long history of censorship. Forget all those literal BOOK BURNINGS back in the 80s by right wing christian fundamentalist their biggest supporters. Forget the PMRC. Forget Comics book code authority. Forget Terry Rakolta who wrote a boycott letter to try and cancel Married with children. Forget the "clean up TV" campaign in the 80s. A christian right wing censorship group that was trying to "clean up smut TV" by BOYCOTTING tv shows and telling people to do the same and using that to FORCE censorship. Forget Jack Thompson, a notorious censor who successfully got 2livecrew banned and went on TV and BRAGGED ABOUT IT "and 2livescrew doesn't even exist anymore." Forget Charles Keating another infamous censor who also ripped off/stole the life savings of the elderly and even wrote a letter to his employees telling to TARGET the elderly "the weak and ignorant always make good targets." Forget John Ashcroft another censor. Forget the MPAA...I mean the MPAA isn't even a censorship organization because they told us so. So yeah, just forget all of that. If you can't tell I'm being sarcastic. Also this goes way back. Compare the U.S version of Dracula and the Spanish version of Dracula. Spanish Dracula had more violence on screen and had cleavage. The American version had less violence on screen and no cleavage. I like what John Waters said where he described the poster for one of his movies. Where he talked about the difference in BREAST SIZE. They photoshopped the actress on the poster to have smaller breasts based on where the advertisement was gonna be placed at. if it was a conservative place like somewhere in the south...smaller breast. With her natural breast, perfectly fine in L.A. He asked "It's people's jobs to do this?" apparently yes. We can't even have women's natural bodies on posters. Also female nudity is fine, but not sexual pleasure. If she is experiencing lustful pleasure then it's X, but if she's just nude, etc. Then it's fine. If it's a male it's an X. Unless the producers and distributors BRIBE them and it isn't as explicit.
@Frankie2012channel3 жыл бұрын
True. But as an American viewer who is straight male, I certainly AVOID movies that have swinging DICKs in them. Female viewers aren't as repulsed by female nudity. So sorry. Tons of full frontal male nudity, that's a NO GO for me as a viewer. I'm sure that applies to how distributors think. Women who seek out explicit male nudity are RARE. Sure they like PG13 nudity but all of this is predictable in American viewing trends.
@Jaykilljoy-tt9tt3 жыл бұрын
@@Frankie2012channel I'm straight male as well and I don't care at all. In fact I don't care at all about nudity of any kind. I want a good competent story. Friday the 13th remake had the most nudity out of all of them and I could care as much as a speck of a particle about that. Halloween 2018 could of had a ton of nudity of all I care and I would still despise that movie. I HATED that movie. I saw it in 2019 and I am STILL ranting on it. I HATED THAT MOVIE! I got physically angry after watching it. "I'm sure that applies to how distributors think." Wrong because what does the distributor have to do with the rating over all? Who is in charge of the ratings? The MPAA and the distributors don't want the film to be rated X or NC17 because it will greatly limit the distribution ie $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. So everyone feels pressured to take certain things out of the movies. Not saying the distributing has no effect, but to blame the censorship on that instead of the MPAA which has their own conservative bias and are bought and owned by Hollywood, that makes no sense. I also highly doubt you are the majority and what does that have to do with the MPAA watching it and saying "the women is nude. Fine, but she's having lustful pleasure. X. NC17!" also explain the fact of HOW the sex scenes are shot and how that defines the ratings? I'm sure as a straight male [like my self] seeing that hard wonderful thrusting would very appealing. I also suspect as a straight male seeing one guy and 2 women would also be appealing. Free love would also be appealing "friends with benefits" I'd love to have friends like that as a straight male. That all gets an NC17. So this isn't the free market at all like video games where straight men like seeing sexy action heroes. This is a censorship group saying "cut it" and the distribution having nothing to do with it other then "cut it because the censors want us to and we can't risk taking the NC17 and losing THOUSANDS/MILLIONS OF DOLLARS!" and you don't think there are distributors who are fine with it and will put it out there? Of course there are. Not all distributors are pandering to the majority of consumers. So the free market and distributors makes no sense in this argument.

I got to admit something....when I was a kid, very very little. Like 4, 5, 6 years old. I would beg my parents to rent Gremlins and then when it got too scary I'd run and hide, terrified. My father had a couple arcade/pinball machines in the living room so I'd run and take cover but still peek to watch it and then the next time at the video store I'd beg them to get it again. They'd refuse and say "it's too scary" and I'd say "no, please?! I really want to watch it again. I won't be afraid" They eventually bought me a Gizmo stuffed animal because I loved the film so much even though I'd get terrified at certain scenes. The one that made the most impression was the ending with the dying Strip. I also watched Critters when I was very young but I wasn't too afraid of Critters at all....but Chucky especially the poster art of the Child's play movies absolutely terrified me. When ever I saw the posters at the video store I'd get afraid and try and ignore it. It terrified me until I was around 12 years old. My mom's drunk boyfriend came home with all 3 Child's play movies and said "we are going to watch all 3 of these tonight you and me." so me made me watch all 3 movies uncut. I only ran away at part 2 when Chucky stabs the teacher with the ball air pump, but I went back and watched the last of part 2 and then part 3 and from then on I became a fan of the films. So I can relate. Around 14 I took an interest in my grandfather's movie collection. He was a film nerd. He had a stack of VHS, BETA, and a couple laserdiscs. So we talked about movies and I'd ask him about movies. He had a list of all the movies. So I read through the booklet and I was like "Killer clowns from outer space. That sounds cool." It was the first time I watched Alien, Pet Semetary, CHUD, The prowler, Predator 2, Serial mom. and many others. Because of him I was introduced to a lot of films. I asked him how he got so many movies and he said a video store went out of business so he bought 100 or more of they're VHS tapes for $100 dollars. He literally had trunk loads of VHS tapes. I found out in 2019 when going through his trunks of tapes that he had Don't go in the house on VHS. One of my favorite serial killer/slasher movies. Of course I took that copy and I also took an Elvira double feature tape as well. I remember watching some of those Elvira VHS tapes but I barely remember them now. As for the nudity....OF COURSE SHE MEANT THE MALE NUDITY. That is one thing I didn't like about the discussion of nudity in In search of darkness. Some discussion of the MPAA in terms of the nudity and their double standards should of been discussed at some point. In fact Darcy said "even now" she rarely sees it...what is the reason for that? The MPAA and in this case Amazon and that is film period. Not horror movies. When is the last time you saw it in a comedy or an action film? So their nudity discussion didn't have that context. Although of course film nerds like us will obviously know why.

American Indie filmmakers should submit to European fests. We don't charge submission fees (except for very few exceptions), you have plenty of countries to choose from, we're all used to earing English on the TV (except for a couple of countries that dub everything, but that's not an issue at film fests) and having something from the US, because it's rare, it's always an event. Everyone will want to meet you at the fest, maybe even enough to fly you over. Even if not, and you can't afford to come here, you might get awards and earn a reputation.

Great video as always Cecil, thank you for the book recommendation and the tips. You're film school without being pretentious about it.

Cecil, Dude, please do a new video for "The WAVE!" You wanna talk about drug trips? The ENTIRE MOVIES AN HALLUCINATION! ONCE IT'S Caught ITS STRIDE YOU CAN'T KEEP UP! I tried to add "The Wave" 2020 to your list idk if its in there. But its free on prime. If you like fear and loathing in Las Vegas, or John Dies at the End you'll love "The Wave." 2020

You know what's funny? I've become so desensitized by "This video is sponsored by" that my mind blocks out the product entirely and I forget the product's name. So when you were talking about Spiral, I honestly thought you were about to do a "Wait a minute! THAT'S not the movie we're discussing today!" joke. I'm not bitching about the ad, I'm just relaying a little bit of funniness haha

Thanks for the recommendation... as someone who is attracted to men its always great to see male nudity in film... not that that is the focus... there have been a lot of recent films based on apps that kill or some other horror and they have all been horrible this one sounds like it was done right. Just based of this review I purchased it on google play... for 3 buck for SD and 6 for HD it was worth it...

AMAZON: Cut the male nudity or we'll not let your movie out of our X-rated lists! PRODUCERS: But there are so many other movies that have more gory and explicit scenes than ours! Now you're saying a man not wearing a shirt is so offensive?

The Amazon thing is they are following TV guidelines rather than movie ones. Hench why they stream TV edits of big films. Netflix has a better system (although I’m not in the US so might be stricter there) As for the film my opinion was Meh. Didn’t work for me.

ok, so this got me curious. I checked Prime for this movie. I live in Germany for context. the movie is listed twice, one as a [General Release Version]. neither is currently available. so I can't even PAY to see it, much less get it free with Prime. what fresh hell is this?

It is a shame it's not available for streaming. It sounds like a good movie for your Twitch.tv watch parties. But need the "director's cut" for the Mrs. :-)

Amazon: The giant of Bezos who dislikes male nudity. 19:05 you can see the evil rotten apple logo glowing through the "other halves" sticker ^^

Wait, Amazon is picky about male nudity, yet Netflix is allowed to make exploitation borderline porn like Cuties? Makes perfect sense to me....

You can shoot on 16mm ultra wide or even 8mm if it is scanned at high resolution. That cuts film costs by half or more. Equipment costs go down as well.

Female nudity? No problem with censors. Male nudity? Oh that’s a big no no. 🤷♂️

Kinda funny, the subject and this video. ...I'm not into horror films either, I've seen some, a very few I really love because they're more than just horror like In The Mouth of Madness. But that aside in the beginning of this video how you were talking about how the guy didn't like horror, I could only laugh at the similar sentiment I have and how even though I don't care for horror movies, your videos always leave me glued to the screen. Another great video. 👍

Weird that a company that has a category for LGBT films censors male nudity? But they ban books as well, so yeah.

Wait, I haven't seen a lot of movies on Amazon because of a age wall I didn't even know about. Anybody up for a class action lawsuit? Thats content I paid for but they wouldn't show me. Sue Sue Sue Sue!!!!
