Hey Cecil, this has nothing to do with this post but I'd like to recommend perhaps doing a series on Cold War era nuclear/biological disaster movies. I've recently been rewatching some classics and I think it would be an interesting theme. "Countdown to looking glass" - nuclear war 80s prop film "Warning Sign" - biological outbreak movie with Yaphet Kotto "The Day After" - another Cold War 80s nuclear war prop film from 83 "Threads" - UK film from 80s, actually quite disturbing. About the outbreak of nuclear war "Special Bulletin" - a terrorist group brings a homemade atomic bomb aboard a tugboat in the harbor of Charleston, South Carolina in order to blackmail the U.S. government into disabling its nuclear weapons, and the incident is caught live on television. It's a mock drama styled as a news bulletin "By Dawns Early Light" - another 80s prop film about the outbreak of nuclear war "Without Warning" - tv news style mock drama about…a disaster. Don’t want to ruin the plot. I mistakenly remembered it being about nuclear war but I misremembered. Doesn’t really belong on this list but I’m going to leave it here anyway because it fits the vibe. There are many more but those are particularly notable imo. Also, another interesting movie that would be quite controversial to review would be "White Dog". It's about a white fluffy dog that has been trained to be racist, and the efforts of some dog trainers to try and make it not racist. It's a very strange movie that would never be made today, worth checking out imo.
@fisheyenomiko10 ай бұрын
"Without Warning" - It's not about nuclear war, actually. I won't say what it is (it's good enough I don't want to spoil it), but it's not nukes. If you're doing it as part of a theme, I think this movie would work better with found footage/mockumentary movies.

God, this video really went all in with the humour and nostalgia references. Especially the C64 Aliens. I haven't played that since I was a kid. I love movies like this. Cheap budgets use to really get the most creativity and ingenuity out of a special effects team and it shows. It's a shame directors don't get that a lot of us audience members appreciate that and instead try to for the latest CGI to make everything "perfect." Give me rubber suits and stop motion any day.

Its the same reason why disaster films were big back in the 90s. Essentially, some studio greenlights a "big" movie and then others try to make their own version, many times they try to rush it out the door to be the first. The undersea thing started when Cameron announced The Abyss. However, unlike the disaster film craze (Twister, Volcano, etc) the undersea movies all pretty much underperformed so it didn't last long.
