I'm surprised you didn't mention that Tales from the Gold Monkey seemed to have also inspired the Disney show Talespin. I mean, a pilot wearing that hat and bomber jacket, flying a seaplane, he even hangs out at a bar run by a guy named Louie! I honestly got into Tales from the Gold Monkey because of that connection, I had watched Talespin a lot as a kid and someone mentioned the similarities which got me to look it up.

When Rip Tide debuted on NBC it aired at 10:00, with Remington Steele as it's lead-in - not the A-Team. Anne Francis played their boss, Mama Joe. Her character made the show, but she was bounced after the first 12 episodes. Then a few months later, Moonlighting premiered Tuesdays at 10:00 in ABC and hammered Rip Tide in the ratings. When NBC announced their new Fall schedule, they flipped Remington Steele and Rip Tide. That's when the A-Team became it's lead-in. Rather than counter program, ABC switched Moonlighting to 9:00 and once again, Rip Tide was harpooned in the ratings. But after they fired Anne Francis, the show was never the same. However, for about 2 1/2 years, Tuesday night were heavenly with Remington Steele and Moonlighting back-to-back or vice versa. Rip Tide wound up being moved to Wednesdays, but by then it's audience had pretty much been eroded.

I watched Thunder in Paradise mostly because they shot a lot of their locations at Disney World- The Grand Floridian was where the hero bar scenes were shot (the bar was built for the series and not an actual bar), Epcot pavilions filled in for foreign countries often, and even the Indiana Jones stunt show set was utilized.
@UglyKenHart Жыл бұрын
This was back in the brief period when Disney’s MGM Studios was still trying to play itself off as an actual working studio. They actually filmed way more than you would think at and around the Grand Floridian and Seven Seas Lagoon. Apparently one of the struggles the show had was that the speed boat was so loud while it was filming runs in the Lagoon, it could be heard inside the Magic Kingdom and that really irked park management.

Interesting you mentioned Riptide because I would have mentioned Wiseguy, another Cannell/Lupo show because it's basically James Bond from Brooklyn (Vancouver's not a good substitution, production wise), and it introduced the serialized story arc, a tool used in daytime and primetime soaps, to the crime/action drama (too many people credit X-Files or Buffy for that. Chris Carter corrected a fan at a Q&A some years ago).

The helicopter is what I always remembered and as a kid I always thought it was connected to Revenge of the Nerds. H.E.A.T. was a show that I felt like it wanted to be V.I.P. but that is probably because I only watched the second season when it was actually competing with V.I.P. in syndication. Relic Hunter was a show that always seem to have a show I wanted to watch more in its time slot so I never watched more than a couple episode before it ended. Thunder In Paradise reminds me of a funnier take on Thunderboat Row.

The *"SHEENA"* 35-episode TV Series from the year 2000 deserve a spot in the "5 Forgotten TV Shows" Collection. The series starred Gena Lee Nolin (of *"Baywatch"* fame) in the title role of Sheena; who - in this version of the story - has the supernatural ability of turning into animals via eye-contact. She is joined by Matt Cutter (played by John Allen Nelson) as they encounter and fought many enemies throughout the series. The whole series was released in a large DVD collection in 2017 which has the 1984 film from Columbia Pictures starring Tanya Roberts (R.I.P.) and five bonus episodes from the 1950s black & white TV series starring Irish McCalla.
