That’s one of the best sounding amps I’ve ever heard.

Love that Twin sound, hate that Twin weight. :)

Thanks for showing. I decided a long time ago that it is best for me to stay off forums. I don't have the temperament to deal with it. That's why I ask an occasional question here or from a handful of others that I trust.

Tube shields absolutely do change the internal capaitances in between elements inside the tubes but it's maybe adding maybe 2 to 5 pF at the very most. The loose tolreances of the components used in the amp will cause more variable changes in the audio signal than tube shields ever will. Simply moving the amp 5 inches in proximity to a wall can have more effect. Old PAs and radios from the 1930s could have a super triode with a gain factor of over 1000 in the first gain stage. You absolutely will want one of those old split metal coke bottle Goat shields on that tube, trust me. I have seen copper foil with a ground wire soldered to it wrapped around those tubes. Finding those old Goat shields is difficult and expensive now.

Lyle, heard Memphis got a big dump of snow. Hope you and the family stay safe and away from the crazies on the road….

Nice work Lyle! Question for you... can you repair my old Tascam DA78 8 track recorder? I can see the tracks playing but no sound is coming out of the D-clip outputs. Was working fine. Might be transistors in the output section? I think I unplugged one XLR input and plugged in a bass guitar XLR output in without turning off the recorder first. Manual said, don't do that!

Miss not having a Twin.

The twin has long been my favorite Fender design - it's a pity the thing is so bloody heavy but that's the way it goes.

RF field varies greatly some venues have little other that I have measured 2 volt RF on stage now that can be a big problem . Few are that bad but they are there. .2 volts will cause all kind of noise .

If you listen to the PiL track, Four Enclosed Walls, you can hear a similar sound, though given it was 1981, they're holding a wristwatch up to the microphone.

Do vintage tube shields sound better than new ones? 😂
@PsionicAudio7 сағат бұрын
No but they cost more. Such is life. Honestly the old steel shields do feel much nicer than modern aluminum ones. Because we spend so much time fondling them…
@TechnoRiffСағат бұрын
Thanks! There are many great tips in this video. Would you say that it might make sense for guitar combo amps to have a top shield - screen or otherwise - in general?
@PsionicAudioСағат бұрын
Absolutely.

It would be interesting to know and see some of your own personal favourite tones on various amps and how you achieved them
@PsionicAudio8 сағат бұрын
Thanks, but it’s just a matter of getting a good amp tuned up, pairing it with an appropriate speaker, and having a great player plug in. Doesn’t take any weird knob positions at that point.

Thank you for your science-based approach to the tube shields. Would this mean that they could potentially interact with each other, and this is why some people percieve a difference with them off? Or is that just someone's imagination
@PsionicAudio8 сағат бұрын
I’ve never found them interacting without shields, but I’ve heard plenty of Wi-Fi router etc without them.
