Man as soon as I heard these were coming out I was peaked. Been waiting for Marshall to do their own mods and hotrod amps for years. I have several stock and modded versions and they backbone so much of rock and metal. Definitely like all 3, but the JCM 900 and 800 are awesome sounding.

I used to run my jcm 800 high with a ts.. but got in a lot of fights with the lovely sound guys. 😅 I had to always turn it down to a point where I lost my sound. So I went for the Billy Corgan way and run it in the low; master all the way up and pre to taste (not much, just the volume you need). This way it got the nicest clean tones (awesome low end, which I like) and it functions as a great pedal platform. It takes muffs and distortions very well and I can keep my sound at lower volumes on stage perfectly. Still prefer it loud, but at least one guy in the room is happy 😅

Channel switching became a thing for Marshalls in 1981 with the 2205/2210 models and their solid state stablemates. When I was at the factory shortly after the JCM900 reissue was released I asked why the 4100 and not the 2100 Dual Master instead (Mk III or Mk IV), was told this is what the DEALERS asked for. Every guitar player that talked about them all asked the same thing, Why the buzzy/weak one and not the real Beast of the 900 line... Oh well. Nothing for me to buy this year still. I'll stick with my JMP-1 Preamp to get all these tones.

Note on the 900: using a gain, eq, and/or OD through Channel A is quintessential 90’s death metal. Morbid Angel specifically uses a dimed CH A with a Rat, EQ, and several fx pedals run up front, with specific sludgy amp EQ settings. You can’t achieve those greasy tones on much else, and definitely not from the CH B circuit. It is a hidden gem for anyone unaware of it’s pedal platform capacity. Adding other FX and a gate to the loop and you’ve got quite an awesome rig.

I blew out my left ear drum before i was 20 after i bought a marshall 100 watt stack. Cranked in the basement and played it for hours everyday. Dumb ass! I have constant ringing, buzzing, hissing and lost all my high tone frequencies. My right ear, just a little hissing and no hearing loss. I always wear ear protection around any loud music or noise. I learned the hard way. The first two years of the ringing and hissing I wanted to jam a pen in my ear and make it stop. People have actually offed themselves because of it.

I know it's kind of unpopular opinion. I wish they made the studio series where they make the dsl stuff. I would love a sv20 or sc20 for about $550-600 bucks. (US dollars). Or maybe do like freidman did with their IR line of pedals. I know marshall just released new pedals. But we need the tubes.
@BaronsDujuСағат бұрын
Wait, they put a switch on for an internal clipping boost pedal instead of switching another preamp tube on and off? I mean.. we all already have our favourite boost pedals in our collections. I’m assuming people would have preferred a valve instead? And no effects loop?

Finally. Now I can possibly have a true Super Lead I can use in the bedroom. Remove 2 power valves - Master Volume - into Torpedo - IR Box - flat amp - into 4x12. Nice.
@IamtheFerryMan2 сағат бұрын
If you're running it into an IR box, why remove the tubes? I get that would be to reduce the wattage, but it makes no sense when the IR box usually handles 100w. Just crank the danged thing up 😊
@ianbenson7804Сағат бұрын
@@IamtheFerryMan Really because at bedroom level, a highly cranked amp of more than say 20-30 watts still sounds like garbage through the Torpedo - it just compresses and frats out too much. 50 watts from the '59 *with* the master volume should definitely be in decent tolerance level for the Torpedo.
@ianbenson7804Сағат бұрын
@@IamtheFerryMan Also, the Torpedo is just the attenuation, I'm then running line out to a separate IR box and then into a flat response amp and then to the cab.

I had a Torpedo Captor X for a few years. Are you just using a Captor or something else from them? I never had that experience. I used it with a JTM45 my friend built, a Mesa Mark V 35, a Koch Powertone II (120 watts, so didn't dime it), and multiple 40 watt Fender combos. Weird you're getting garbage tones out of it. Not in the mood for a sales pitch, so I'll grant you I'm probably being a bit harsh - but really? A 900 with no fx loop and no on-board reverb or delay- how would you use a reverb or delay with it? Unless you're getting your drive from a pedal, your reverb and delay are now before your drive- which sounds like crap generally speaking- that's why they added reverb afterwards for this demo. But you can't do that playing live so- what's this for- studio use? Guys who prefer playing dry? Or are we just so convinced now everyone will be running it into something like the Ox Box that has reverb and delay built into it that we're no longer going to bother with fx loops? Ah whatever, I couldn't afford it even if it was built like I wanted so- I guess I'm not the demo they're aiming at anyway. Carry on with your regularly scheduled programming...

I had a 1959 double stack in 1977... I was going for the Alvin Lee at Woodstock sound! Plugging straight in to the first input, I quickly found out the thin piercing sound produced, and remembered seeing pictures of them being jumped! That was the fixer! But I still had to turn it up to seven or seven and a half, or beyond, to get a really good sound! Still, it was UNPLEASANTLY LOUD!!! I ended up using a boss overdrive, but that never got me where it needed to be come up but pretty close! I tried lots of ways to pump up the thickness and gain, but never ever did anything work quite correctly! I ended up getting in the Altair power attenuator, because they were the only thing available back then!!! Once the original tubes went " ick! ", it never quite sounded the same! But as far as a 4x12 being the BEST guitar sound EVER, I do MUCH PREFER The 212 AC30!!!!!!!!!!! STILL PAINFULLY LOUD!!! 🙀😾😿😸😸😸 I think that when you turn it down, no matter HOW You do that, you lose attack and articulation, including the THUMP, That leads to the "loss of excitement"That you described!

We just need to play through a video without any talking show us how aggressive the Amp gets by itself without any Pedals. There's no point in buying a modded amp if you have to use Pedals.

I think they’re trying to go for the look of old Marshalls that were modded. They tended to look that way as the switches and extra knobs are added to an existing chassis. If you wanted them to redo the whole look for the new features they did do that, when they made every new amp after the old originals.
