Well done Phil, going to give this a go on a bedroom. Walls were terrible… I’ve filled out and practically filling the whole wall. Going to gardz the walls as I have the gardz. Then line and will finish walls in that johnstones durable Matt tinted to a colour. Will give lining coat of emulsion to seal then two coats of the durable Matt. Remember the cannon glue size mixed with hot water till it looks like weetabix then top up with water …stunk terrible. Then the next day sets like jelly so you needed to liven up with some hot water. I’m happy trying new methods. Cheers Phil.

I know about it and the process but never had the pleasure lol Durable Matt. Don't bother with emulsion first coat. The durable is really good

Been doing papering for years and agree cross lining is just weird, as long as it's different spacing to the top paper , much easier. Also bought an apron and a paper wizz recently why didn't I get them before! . Never using a paper brush again. Oh yes, Olfa knives are the biz as long as you're not too brutal can judge the cut depth to not drag the plaster up. Noticed the Albany , will give it a go and thinner is good, Wallrock can be a bit tricky round corners etc as it is do strong .

A hanging brush still has it place, when you need to work a paper it's still handy.

In general I go vertical when painting and cross lining when wallpapering.. Why because it's quicker/less cuts/braces wallpaper better/never going to meet seems. Strips better without needing lining paper taking off usually.. For them customers who change decor every other year😅 Prefer using pulp under wallpapers these days. Much better round angles especially shaping pissed walls. I tend to have to prime non woven when it's a paste the wallpaper going ontop.. Which I never have to do with pulp.. Do you have this problem? Paperbacked papers are dreadful these days aren't they.. I agree with your comments about filling the joints.. It's the way I was taught at aswell.. They will crack with movement eventually.. No need even with 1700 if you allow to soak/stretch and use ready mixed.

I still size walls prior to lining... Unless the walls been oil eggshell from.years ago or a surface that's not porous. Call the no woven lining is easy though for corners... Just cut them neat to the angle or corner, don't try over lapping it or wrapping in one. Non woven is the future

@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator No I was on about sizing/priming the non woven liningpaper prior to finishing wallpaper.. I've had issues going back to jobs a few years after and finding little bits flapping up.. Easy to fix but never happens when using pulp. I've been in this game as long as you I think.. Similar backgrounds college /apprenticeship advanced craft.. Just feel alot of these products are falling short these days and catered for sales to the Joe public.. Another issue with non woven is it's generally transparent.. Seen it all so many times when decorators /DIY have applied it over overlap paint from skirts and ceilings and it's shown through🙄 Definitely pro's and cons.. Try the wall rock premium 200 for the ultimate smooth finish!

@@carlbridge-wk4ez it's why I line... And use tub paste for both papers. You're right about seeing through paper (finish). It's funny when you see someone not line and you see all the un even colours of the wall they went over... All cus the customer didn't have the budget for lining.. or they thought they'd save money for them and go straight over well sanded and Gardz walls Again.. you'll say it like i do. How does the Albany Reinforced lining paper finish compare to WallRock Smooth?
@ProfessionalPainterDecorator
@ProfessionalPainterDecorator 9 ай бұрын
The same, it's very smooth. It's slightly thinner though, which isn't a bad thing for lining.

My wife is obsessed with your tips. To the point that I had to take all the polystyrene off the wall (with great difficulty) and replace it with the ballroom stain block and cover that with fiberline and then cover that with 2500 lining paper. Then I left it a week to settle before starting to paint at which point noticed that the stain block was lifting away from the wall. Any ideas
@ProfessionalPainterDecorator
@ProfessionalPainterDecorator 9 ай бұрын
What was the stain block for? I'd of double lined with the fibre liner. If it was that bad. 2500 lining is very thick and not easy to handle and hang.
@dazzlerone864
@dazzlerone864 9 ай бұрын
The stain block was only on the outside wall just to keep the heat in, fibreline and 2500 The rest. Only the stain block lifted.

Hey - would you recommend filling in hairline cracks and little uneven parts in the plaster before lining or would the lining paper cover that if the grade is high enough? thanks
@ProfessionalPainterDecorator
@ProfessionalPainterDecorator 9 ай бұрын
I still would do, just for piece of mind. If they are very fine, I wouldn't worry, you won't see them once lined.

Used this the other day, game changer for paste the wall lining… I did find the joints opened up a bit though which was annoying, also it’s a bit transparent… other then that it’s great, I hate soaking lining paper. Did you find the joints opened ? Only a bit but enough to be annoying.

it's no hardship. whether you paste the paper.... where there no need with a non woven as theres no soak time.. or paste the wall, you're still pasting something.

@ProfessionalPainterDecorator
@ProfessionalPainterDecorator 8 ай бұрын
Well...... Clearly they've never been taught correctly.... Clearly don't read instructions on what the soak times are for lining paper. Allow to soak.... It goes tonite max width, it won't go any more. Butt join all the way If you get a slight over lap it more a case then trimming or the wall may be out. But once dry, you whizz over the walls with some worn sand paper just in case. With non woven like this on the video, it doesn't grow and stretch. As it's a stable product.
