whats the best for 70's woodchip its a beast ?
@ProfessionalPainterDecorator10 ай бұрын
woodchip is nasty, we use somehing like this, (in my amazon store) amzn.to/47pHAyq it takes a bit of getting into the nac on how to ue it as you come across it and not just push against the wallpaper, if you get what I mean. But you'll find a stripping blade like the one in he link will get the face off most woodchip and old thick anaglypta's leaving the backing on which you will soak in with hot soapy water, wait till its soaked in a couple of times and it will easily strip off then. amzn.to/47pHAyq

Hi mate.. My old lining paper painted with Magnolia emulsion over the last year the paper had started to shrink and I now have a gap in between about a millimeter.. Any ideas rather than having to strip it all and start again.. Please

@@desiman0786 👍 also you can try brushing down join with PVA glue first as that can seal joins to stop movement, then recoat, when i use lining paper i normally run down with pva with a mini roller to keeps joins together

What would you do if that wall was to be painted?
@ProfessionalPainterDecorator3 ай бұрын
Re line it. Or if the surface is good. Allow it to dry after stripping the wallpaper off the use Gardz on it. That sorts out any paste that may still be on the surface that will reactive when painted. Search my channel for Gardz

What about when there’s electricals as I am stuck on the walls with a good few switches and sockets on them, last time with the steamer I got water inside of the switch
@ProfessionalPainterDecorator6 ай бұрын
No need for a streamer... Just be careful near the sockets when soaking in the wallpaper
@TheWESTSIDE1967 Жыл бұрын
Never use steamers they blow the plaster & cause cracking, i always try to nick the paper & some will come off like that or if it don't get a big scuttle i use my emulsion one with a 12 inch Purdy roller, fairy liquid or anything to bubble up, hot or cold, were not talking boiling so don't matter, & just go around the room roughly 2 to 3 times job done never fails, roll upwards from bottom as the bubbled water sits on top of roller, if you roll down the water just hits the floor, waterproof sheet down & leave the stripped paper to soak up any excess water, roll up shouldn't be much anyway,suds stay on the paper to help keep soaked, be careful around sockets use a brush, i use a wide taping knife & french filling knives to nick the edge, once the water penetrates the backing your there

Lots of myths around stripping...'soak the wall 3 times'...if its a vinyl it will just run off!....'add wallpaper paste to the water'... everything will be covered in slime...🙄 I use really hot water to penetrate the paper and soften the paste quicker (pointless in a garden sprayer) and washing up liquid..the washing up liquid slows down the drying out of the water, so it spends longer penetrating the paper. I use a long pile sleeve (not on the frame) to wet the wall in...not only does it cover a bigger area quicker, it rubs the water into the surface of the paper.

Only thing with really hot mate is it makes the paper brittle & tear in small bits, disintegrate, cold doesn't so you get a bigger tear off, i use both methods as it depends on paper as they all have different characteristics when stripping, I've even got a start at top without tearing pulled back & soaked with suds on backing & its come off in one & slowly unstuck & dropped to floor as the weight is getting heavier to do the job for me 😉

In fairness, I think the conditioner does the same job as the detergent..whether it actually "softens" the paper any more than a soak with plain warm water, I don't know..I have no idea how adding vinegar is supposed to help? Maybe it harks back to when paste was not much more than flour and water?
