Welcome back to the channel! This is Scott again! Thank you all for all the support! If you're new, please like, subscribe and turn on that alert to be notified of new videos!
I have really tried to like the NK Cream switches. The POM housing, the unique and satisfying clack. The solid bottom out feel. However, overtime, I realized that it just did not compare to the best linear switches out there in terms of smoothness and scratchiness.
Then they dropped the DUROCK POM Linear switch! I was super excited to review these given that they might be THE perfect replacement for the NK Creams. Can the new entry be the definitive answer to your clack cravings?
Full POM housing, a mystery blend stem with a 63.5g spring. Sounds like the perfect recipe!
Let us find out!

I've heard that there can be some weird interactions between two surfaces with the same coefficient of friction. My guess is they changed the stem material to avoid that.
@Keybored

Hi Paper! You are probably right about that. I think that was the issue with the Creams having a "leathery" feel.

Yeah, i am pretty sure the durock stems have some uhmwpe properties.
@tybera1114
@tybera1114 3 жыл бұрын
This is accurate for materials assuming nothing changes. This is because the two sides compete for force disturbance. As a result there are times you actually get 2x the fictional force pushing back on your key stroke depending on how you hit the key because of the geometry of the stem. This causes a hang or dragging feeling, especially if you hit the key lighter. But things change once the material wears down a while, one of the sides of the material will take over as the sliding material and the coefficient of friction will drop because the material has worn down. The problem is, most folks don't have time to wear down their switches to get over that, and lubing the switches right of the bat will actually make this problem last longer because it will reduce the ability off the switch material to wear down. This is one of the reasons I wouldn't lube creams or any other switch that uses the same material for the housing and stem.

I got some Durock POMs about a week ago, and they’re honestly comparable to Ink Blacks if you put heavier springs in them. I may have went... slightly overboard in how heavy I made them, but the sound gets a little deeper and much quieter. The Ink Blacks are still the thock king, but these are really close.
@Keybored

Hi Aric! I don't disagree! In terms of smoothness, they are so comparable. If we can lower the sound pitch of the durock poms, they will indeed be similar to the gat ink blacks! I do love gat ink blacks... such great thocky switches!

Creams are the best switch when it comes to high pitched sound paired with a clacky profile. They lack smoothness however there is nothing alike for now. I think they claim NK Creams need to be broken in unlubed first, and when that happens, that's where lubing makes it one of the best linears. I dont really know coz i dont have time to break them in first before making them good, coz some claim it takes about 2 to 3 weeks of use before it becomes feeling smooth. Im fine with my gateron full milky yellows. Value smoothness over all.

I don't mind both, but I have some all POM durock's and I'm unsure how to feel about them, I have some that are really smooth after lubing and then some that have a weird feel and stick to them especially if films are applied, it's not all of the switches only a handful out of the batch so I'm not sure, I'm also not dabbing these thing's in lube either so it's weird to have them feel like i've dunked them but I'll have to finish lubing all 110 of them and trying them out some more to see if they improve or not and cleaning off the ones that have a weird feel/stick to them as well.
@Keybored
@Keybored 3 жыл бұрын
Yup! I know exactly what you're talking about! I noticed that some do "stick" with film! On those, I took the film out and it made the stick go away. Since then, I stopped filming this switch all together and I'm happy with the results! I feel it has something to do with the housing... I noticed that no other stems really fit the upper housing... The housing is so tight!

I get it, you stepped on a NK Cream at night and will shit on them no matter what (lol, I can picture that scenario). Here's an idea....do what has been advised since they came out. Since they're all POM they need to be "broken in" as do all POM switches. Personally I use them for a couple weeks first until the scratchiness goes away then lube them. They are gawd tier. I do not have Durock POMs as they are .70 per switch and seem like a cash grab, imo. The reason POM is so widely used is because after time POM breaks down and fills in the microscopic gaps and becomes super smooth. As we see with vintage switches. My favorite linear atm is Creamsicle (NK Cream stem, broken in already, with Tangy housings and springs) filmed (Deskeys black) and lubed (205g0). Thank goodness none of this is relevant because if you like Durock POMs better then no one can tell you different and you should enjoy the shit outta them!

Hi Bearoh! The Durock poms are new switches from jwk. They offer a full pom housing and uhmwpe stem for a smooth thock. The rest of the durock linears are versions of the jwk linear switches.
