Rickey CONGRATS on that next baby boy! We just found out we have our own baby on the way! Love your home! Wish I could afford to buy it on a land contract but I'm sure it's going to be a big price for all the AMAZING things you did to that home and property! Bless your family, and always do what is best for you and your family. Screw the haters!

Appreciate you Tristan. And congrats on your future bundle of joy brother! This is a beautiful place and the cool thing is, all someone has to do is bring their cloths and personal items and they won't skip a beat. Everything is here to pick up and start enjoying life. You might be surprised what a home like this will cost here in the Philippines. You could multiply what I end up selling this for, times 3 or 4 to get something comparable in Texas. Makes me sad to leave all of this behind, but I am trusting it's best for our family at the moment.

It is such a blessing. I am married to a flipina and going to be 63 years old this year. I have a 7, 3, 1 year old and one more coming in January 2025. We lived on Oriental Mindoro and we built a house there and we moved back to the US just recently. But kept our house. We let The Lord guide our path for us. I know what you are feeling. My friend. Lovely family and lovely home, new to your channel. We live in the US and have properties in the Philippines. You can airbnb your home, you just need a property manager. Your truck as a rental truck as well with your property. It’s profitable. I hope you guys find an affordable home in Texas. Cost has been going higher. Almost impossible to retire here for regular folks
@rickbaker0217
@rickbaker0217 2 ай бұрын
You are right Earl, difficult to live there now on a retirement. For the first time in years, there isn't a dime left after bills each month. I will suffer through that for at least the next 3 years. After that, we will see. I thought long and hard about buying a home again in Texas, but I have put it on the back burner for now. I have always been a home owner, but right now it does not make sense. So, we will wait and see where the market and interest rates go. The Air BnB could work, but it has been my experience in the past with another property I had in the Dominican, that people don't take care of things when they don't own them. Bad experience that I don't want to repeat. Just my experience brother!

Lots of vloggers are going back to the US. I am here in Texas while my wife and my son Ben are in the Philippines at our house there for the summer break. It is challenging to navigate, but there is no way I am selling my house. We plan to AirBnB it to cover some of the expenses. Congrats on the coming little one. Good luck with the sale if you are able to let it go.

Letting it go has probably been one of the hardest decisions I have had to make in recent memory. I love being here. But I am trusting it is the right thing to do for our family at the moment. This is a lot of house and property to maintain for only being able to visit 1 month per year. If life ever changes for us in the future, we will give it another go! Love your son's name!

Please forgive me here, I am truly still trying to learn..........My wife came here to US from PH and we were married in 2019. I am looking to retire soon and at the moment are making plans to move back to PH. Just wondering how her getting her citizenship plays into this? She should be getting her US citizenship in a few months and re-affirming her PH citizenship shortly after. ........ If we later move to the PH, does she and/or I, not still retain our US citizenship? Now we do plan on coming back from time to time for visit but didn't think there was any requirements there. Thanks for advise......
@GaryUSMCVET
@GaryUSMCVET 2 ай бұрын
@patbrown1024 You, nor your wife will lose your citizenship if outside of the US for extended periods of time. US Citizenship, for those that are naturalized, is not lost unless later on fraud is discovered in the immigration process. However, USCIS is too busy to go looking for fraud, so usually someone reports immigration fraud to them or it gets discovered during an interview. Unlike a LPR (Lawful Permanent Resident), there's no requirement for a US citizen to maintain a presence in the US. A citizen can be out of the country for as long as he/she desires. A LPR must maintain a presence in the US or risk losing that status if they are outside of the country for 1 year and didn't apply for a reentry permit prior to leaving the US, which is Form I-131, the Application for Travel Document. You and your wife will be fine. There's no risk of loss of your citizenship.

Actually, we are only 10 minutes from the market in Cuyapo, 20 minutes from the SM Mall in Rosales, 30 minutes from Walter Mart in Panaqui and an hour fifteen from S&R (Philippines Sam's Club), Medical City, SM Clark, Marquee Mall, and Clark International Airport. So we actually have the best of both worlds. A quality education however, I just can't find for my son to finish up his last three years.

One can get decent farmland 90 mins outside Cebu City for 300 - 400 Pesos per sqm, whereas in the suburbs of Cebu it's 5,000 - 10,000 Pesos per sqm, and more in the prime, central areas of the city. Best schools, hospitals, shopping and dining options are all in or near the city. Wouldn't want to be 1 1/2 hours outside the city and suffer a medical emergency. And it's difficult to get an Internet connection in the farm / hills areas, except possibly via satellite. I think your idea of a small city place and a larger lot outside the city to grow your own produce is the right idea, as long as you (and your partner if you have one) are willing to drive back and forth.

Hey Scotty! Always good to chat with a fellow Texan! Crime where we live in Texas, is still ok. Helps that most people are able to protect themselves there. Prices however, that's another story. Your question is a good one and I am finding out real quickly, that there is NO GOOD WAY to ship my personal things back. I remember shipping 11 balikbayan boxes when I retired here. Each about $60 per 50lb box. I just checked DHL last week and they want $300 to ship that same 50lb box to the US. So, we will most likely store many of our personal items at our little home in Cavite until we can gradually bring them back one vacation at a time. We each get two 50lb bags when we fly to Texas so a few vacations should get most of our things back home. But honestly, no reasonable way to ship it.

Thanks for the info on shipping. $300 bucks for a box to be shipped is craz😂y. I wonder what the airline would charge to bring extra luggage/box. I’ve seen so many times, people bringing boxes and checking them in at the counter In the airport. I have no idea how much they paid, but probably expensive as well. Take care and safe travels….

You cracked me and my Filipina wife up when you mentioned you weren't a wealthy man and then we saw your property. Lets just say you must not be hurting for money. Hey Robert! I might have run into you at some point. I spent the last 14 years of my 33 year Air Force career, at Barksdale. Wealthy by Filipina standards, but by no means US standards brother. We built exactly what we could afford to build, just does not make sense to me to hang on to it and let it sit empty for years, just to see if we can head back this way when Genesis graduates. We are keeping some of our land, just in case we ever head back this way. This is our home of choice in the Philippines, so coming back won't be a hard decision brother.

@@rickbaker0217 I was in the 917th TFW at Barksdale from 1987-1999. I was medically disqualified from the reserves therefore I lost my ART position. I had enough points to retire as a Ssgt. I was WG-10 on the civil service side of the house. I was on civil service disability for 20 years plus my 12 at Barksdale and I had 5 years active duty mainly in Germany. 38 total years for time and pay purposes. Hi Rick. Congrats on the newest Baker in the oven! Joke intended. Well I had been watching you for years getting your advice and now I have finally moved here permanently in retirement. I would love to meet up with you and the family before you head off to Texas if you would like. My treat to dinner your choice. Our journey is different in that my wife was in the US for years and got her citizenship before we retired here. So, she has the benefit of full US citizenship and dual Philippine citizenship. I think we might have some interest information to exchange on these opposite paths. I have three granddaughters all went into the Air Force. Reach out if you are interested in meeting up Mark

Subic is a good area to hang your hat. I would love to meet up and share with each other. Only thing is time is going fast for Genesis and I. I am taking the family to the house in Cavite to spend a week with Uncles and Cousins and that will leave just over a week left before he and I have to get back to get him ready for the 10th grade. I would love nothing more than to grab a meal at Texas Joes', but not expecting to get to Subic this trip. If there is a chance you could meet me in Clark, maybe we could pull that off. If you have Messenger, look for Rick Baker with a profile pic of me in my service dress. Send me a message and we can try to make it work!

Hey Brother, I just want you to know that it is a blessing to hear your heart and desire to follow the Lord. I thank God for your wanting to give your family all the best chances in life. I haven't watched your channel much (shame on me) so I really don't know you........please don't think I'm here with any agenda, cuz I'm not..........but the first thoughts that came to my mind when watching this video were, you believe God brought you and your Filipina wife together, I think you believe God lead ya'll to your property, you believe God gave you the wisdom and vision to build, you believe God allowed you to conceive and have Ben, and also another on the way and I'm sure a lot more along the way..................please forgive me, I'm just giving a thought as I ask Him for guidance.............. Now in my shallow mind I seem to hear, God has changed His mind, I shouldn't have built this retirement home........is there not a way in all this that God has provided? I know we miss directions sometime, and yet our Loving Savior guides us thru. ................ I'm sorry, I know I don't see your big picture. I do know you guys have to walk out your own steps. I pray for your continued strength and blessings.

Pat, I so appreciate your sharing your thoughts on all of this. I would love to say that I always turn my decision over to God, but sadly, I have not always done that. I will say that he continues to bless this family even if I didn't turn it over to him. This one was so incredibly difficult for me to make, that I gladly turned it over to him and honestly, I didn't see how financially it could work, but again, he has provided. I am trusting we are on his path this time. And if not, my eyes, ears and heart are open to any adjustments we need to make. Our wish is that after Genesis graduates, we might have another opportunity to reassess. Let's see where that takes us! I am grateful for your prayers for strength and blessings!

Months prior to retiring in 2019, sold my house, cars, major appliances and placed my remaining HHGs in storage for 1 year. During retirement terminal-leave, relocated with my dual citizen Filipina wife (PI & US) and son from Texas (last base was Dyess). Started construction on my house that same year, unfortunately the Pandemic slowed down the house build progress. House was completed late 2020. I’m currently watching older vlogs to catch up. Will you continue to do YT vlogging when you’re living back in the States? I’ll be definitely interested to follow your journey and watch your transition from the Phils back to Texas. Rick i dont know you but im about 3 years ahead of you lol , I have had my family back here in california about 3 + years . I still have a house there too . I have to tell you after bringing my wife here she has been amazing , I just retired @ 64 , I have a 5 yr and 10 yr old , My wife goes to work , goes to school on other days and is doing great ,Im the driver , she works in a hospital and has filipina friends there so she has a social circle of friends. Kids are in school , You are definateley making the right move, I will mention one thing that you might already know, I dont know your financial situation , But when i brought all 3 of them here i had to qualify as a sponsor for a family of 4 dependants. Thats the hardest part, I was almost retired and didnt have enough income , i was worried they might have to go back to pi , i ended up using my 4 real estate properties here in the usa to show that they wouldnt be a public charge. Good luck .

@rickbaker0217 Hi rick, yes i had pre qualified also to bring my family, but you might want to look into it more, when you go for there green cards is when you have to permanantly qualify, its not just qualifying for your wife and one child that was where i had trouble , they have a formula, in your case its you and your wife then any children under 18 , you will have 3 children so you will have 5 dependants. Look up the income they require. It might be about 50 to 60 k. In my case i didnt have it so theres options, real property, such as money in banks stocks or real estate with equity. Or additional sponsors who have good jobs and no debt. , I highly recomend plan ahead.

I'm not sure why you assume I couldn't make it in the Philippines. I lived there three and a half years and built a beautiful home that was paid for. I have no problem making it in the Philippines. I thought I was clear with why we chose to move for at least the next three years, to the US. Once we have met our goal of providing our son an excellent opportunity to overcome learning gaps brought on by the Philippines locking kids out of schools for 2.5 years, then hopefully we can get back to the life we were living when we left. In the meantime, I will enjoy my retirement, guide my sone through his last three years in High School, see him off to the Air Force and watch my 1 year old son grow up!

Congrats on the baby! Moving back to USA is a horrible idea having 2 infants and 1 in already in school plus your wife won’t be able to work and you will work alone for all 4 of you. You will work until you’re 80 years old if you stay in the USA. Selling your house in the Philippines will help for a bit but that money will run out fast and when you die your wife won’t have anything anymore. Better idea is sell the ph house and move to a city in ph that has a better education system for your family. At least you can afford that and don’t need to go back to work and you can use your retirement money as your monthly budget in the Philippines.

I went to America back in 1971, visited Philippines for the first time in 1995...and I thought that was it. Then in 2006 while visiting Israel, God spoke clearly He would send us to the Philippines. WE thought it's only for a couple of years, we moved here 2011 and then 2013 God said, you are now staying there. Preach the Gospel, teach the people. And praise the Lord...it is still what we are doing. Glory to God the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Prices has gone up everywhere, nothing stays stagnant. As for education, one can attend the best school ever and if the student does not make the most of the opportunity, it will not yield the best results. Take a look at the US education, it's free but students struggle to even graduate with a B or higher. Some parents treat the school system like a daycare and a place for their kids to get a meal. Parents need to invest the time and additional effort (not the teachers) to ensure their kids make the most of their education. Best of luck to your family.

You have to make the best choices for your family... Only you can know what that may be...I have no doubt you'll make good ones... We have just started a build in Tarlac and are looking at a larger piece of land outside of Tarlac... How large is your lot, etc. (Should know from the blogs, I guess!)? It might be interesting for us if conditions are right... Our plan is to build a complex of sorts with one building for our business... The truck is also interesting... Let's talk... BTW... I share your concern with America... The choices are not what I'd like to have for the top position this year... A would-be dictator with 34 felony convictions who already has shown us his chaos and disdain for the military or a well-meaning, to now effective, but alarmingly old current office-holder... It convinces me I made a good choice 25+ years ago, deciding to stay overseas as an expat after military retirement... Anyway... Good session, it's a lovely place you've built, sorry to see you are moving on... But... It's understandable that you are... Second question, whereabouts is the location? Reason I'm asking is we're building in Tarlac, as mentioned, and are negotiating for a bigger piece of land north of Tarlac about 15 minutes... But... Your place is so beautiful and you really have done a fine job with it... Maybe... Anyway, hope all well with you and family, these PCS moves are always stressful... I feel like a lot of people have no real idea about what's actually happening with this "illegal immigration" issue. I've worked on the border as an officer for the last 30 years. I'm gonna summarise what's actually happening, the issue is the current laws with seeking asylum. With the current laws, anyone can just walk up to the border and say i'm seeking a asylum and they can enter the US until their paper work gets process (which could take years). Now i voted trump on 2020, but this is all his fault and the all the republican who refused to sign the bill to change those asylum laws. A bipartisan bill was introduced which will limit how much asylum we can take and reduced processing time, but trump advise the republican to deny this. WHy? coz if there's a problem at the border he can use this as his political tactic to blame it on the current admin and also keep the slogan "build the wall". Trump is not what i though he was back in 2020. Guy is snake oil.

Well John, don't know about all of that, just don't remember tens of thousands of folks illegally entering under his term. Seems like I remember they had to remain in Mexico until their claim could be verified. Or something to that affect. As for the bill that was voted down, I am not sure it was so clear cut and simple as you put it. But who knows, maybe your are right brother. Bottomline is, whatever it takes to fix it, ain't happening under the current administration. So of something is broke, I say fix it. Regardless, my issue was with us legally following the process and still the possibility of having my wife and son's visas pulled. That was what was stressing me. Thanks for watching sir and for your insight.

I have traced my ancestors back to the 1400's on both sides of my family and my imagination runs wild when I see all the places that my ancestors came from. I hope some day I can visit the Isles and see some of those places myself!

Your decision of going back to the US has something to do with the present situation in the Philippines? I’m planning on building a beach house but everything is on hold. I don’t see any stability in the country right now.😢🙏

No sir, not really the Philippines. I am personally happy here and love the home we have built for retirement. It really is just about my wife and sons Immigrant Visas in the US and the quality of my son's education in the area we live in. Trying to give him a better opportunity for his last three years of High School. Sorry if that was confusing.

Firstly congratulations Rick! It sounds like the Lord is certainly working in your life and all will work out a few just go with his plan. This is john booth i'm not sure what my name was on the married to a Filipina site but I'm the one with the friend and Arlington texas they wanted to talk to you. Time on social security and unfortunately I don't have any other funds due to my mother changing her will at the last minute but I sure would love to have that home buddy. I will be praying for you so that you will recognize the Lord's hints to you to follow his plan. In november of this year things will began to get better when Trump is back in office and they start drilling the oil, closing the border & working on that economy. I firmly believe he will be reelected. Take care always and the believe in yourself.

You’re collecting dependent SS on Genesis and Benjamin right so that would easily cover their schooling cost as well as their housing, food, clothing, etc. You’re 100% correct the education system in the US, not perfect but far better than most other countries. Reminder to keep their SS dependent monies totally separate with all receipts as they do audit.

Actually, even though I am vested in SS, I can't touch it since I have a Texas public educators pension. Once I leave this earth though, Jenn and the kids should be able to draw on it.

I have been told that the most prestigious schools in Metro Manila offer quality programs. But I truly believe the schools having their doors locked for two and a half years, has changed the educational environment and they just don't seem to have recovered from it. It just seems that everyone just got lazy. Almost as if people here saw that the kids being in school wasn't important to anybody during that time, so now it almost seems to be an inconvenience for everyone, educators included. My opinion of course.
