That one belt in the middle lasted exactly 15 seconds! 3:15 - 3:30. That moment is amazing and seems to last forever. And it sounds perfect the whole time!!!

I've heard Elton sing this countless times; I watched him on MTV back in the Martha Quinn days; I DEFINITELY like Sara's version much better!

I would never say it's "better" because that's really missing the point. You can hardly call it a "version" of Yellow Brick Road. She is celebrating the memory of the old song which she dearly loves and uses it as a theme for an utterly exquisite set of variations. The almost haunting dissonant harmony of the pulsing chords both at the beginning and end makes us reach back to another time in a profound and deeply felt homage to EJ. Almost like an echo through time, the theme which she sings resonates with her beautiful piano figurations. This is why Sara's piece is so exceedingly beautiful. If we had no familiarity with the original song, it wouldn't be half as great as it is.

Better than Elton John; fascinating arrangement! Sara Bareilles is a stellar vocalist. I adored her in The Sing Off and was sorry the show didn't continue because some of the best vocalists sang on that show.
