Oh! The time I’ve lost by taking a shortcut… sometimes a guy can get so focused on his destination he forgets to plan his trip. In the pioneer days, the trails were littered with all matter of treasures and dreams shattered by that reality. Is it possible to have your tailgate all three ways? Can you Add a set of barn door hinges without demolishing the drop/lift gate that you now have? It would really be sweet to be able to switch out tailgates to configure the bed to what the current job needs… However, it will still require you to plan the trip before you are blinded by the destination! Neil, I hope y’all had a wonderful Independence Day…

I was so hopeful this could be an easy solution to hauling multiple pieces at once, but it is cumbersome. Taking the tailgate completely out eliminates the usefulness of the truck on site as an actual dump truck. There's a local excavator and a friend of mine that hauls his skid loader in the bed of his dump truck and then hauls his trencher on the trailer. He does it everyday and he has a really nice system for it. He has a barn door tailgate on his truck and it works in all three directions like you suggest. It's a tricky modification and probably pretty costly, but I think it would save me time and effort in the long run. I'm really hoping to pursue a barn door style hinged tailgate on both trucks to make doing this easier plus hauling firewood. We had a wonderful 4th of July! Plus a bonus is it turned into a 4-day weekend! Hope you've enjoyed yours as well Dave!

Brings back so many memories of been there done that many a time back in the 80's into the early 90's, with a mini track-hoe and a 1845c in the bed, 821c on the deck (tires hanging over the edges) of the tilt deck beaver tail, with the 60inch tree spade on the end of the tilt deck. For sure over legal weight limit, but one has to do what needs to be done. (good thing there were no cell phone cameras back then) You should look into a longer tilt deck, get a slip tank on one side of the frame, and a small set of frame work attached to the trailer frame to hold those ramps, so you always have them with you as needed. Always a party when having multiple pieces of equipment with one operator doing all the work..😅

That was still impressive to get all that equipment in the truck and on the trailer after your work was mostly completed. The skid steer running out of fuel was timely. Diesels are sometimes hesitant to start after air gets in the fuel line. You were fortunate. Thank you for sharing this project with us.

Nice job on the landscaping. I think if they used river rock around the cement pad as a transition from lawn to cement it would provide a beautiful accent and drainage all in one. As far as Louie goes I'd put a winch mount on the top of box to lower/raise the tailgate and add a short set of ramps that can clip on. Way less modifications.

I literally leaned this lesson this past week. Last year, I bought an above ground pool and put it under some pine trees that I wanted to have taken down. Long story long, after only using the pool a few times last year because it was always dirty I just got it filled up this past week. Had I got the trees cut last year I would have been money ahead, time ahead, and would have been swimming long before it got uncomfortably hot to get in said pool. I may have a giant hot tub now, but at least it’s clean!

Careful what you wish for. We had a barn door tailgate on one of our dump trucks. Had a lot of problems with it. It kept disconecting on one of the latches and would fall down and then wouldn't close. I'm not sure if it happened when the gate was slammed or what but the boss says never again. May want to ask around and get some other opinions on those gates before making it happen. Have a good one Niel!

So the concrete is under the gravel, good. The village gave us a new road two years ago, with curbs. The engineer insisted on concrete piled up behind the storm drain in front of our house which led to not enough soil for the sod to survive the drought last year. I am trying to reseed the area, but it is requiring constant watering. Moral of the story, don’t bury concrete where you want grass to grow. Project is looking good.

Grab welder and put hooks on the bed up near the pins you took out and get two chains made up that will hold door from going all the way down - kinda like a pu truck tail gate. I have them on my 6 wheeler louie and that way you can just drop gate and leave it on the truck instead of taking gate all the way off when hauling long logs etc etc or loading tractor in back. I use spray paint on the links so I know where to hook it to get gate even with the bed when lowering. My gate clears landing gear on my trailer so I can run with it down when tag trailer is hooked up. If I do have to close and by my self I will jack knife the truck and trailer and use skid on the ground to pus gate up into place. If im hauling the mini .. well most of theses problems are eliminated. haha Great video ! Keep them coming

Running out of fuel has only happened to me enough times to count on 1 hand . Once as a kid after my grandpa told me to check it b4 bush hogging .... and of course a 10 year old kid knows more than his grandpa so that day i was taught hoe to crack injector lines 1 by 1 and bleed a fuel system . After that it was mostly when im in a different machine on site and the guage is off or doesnt work at all. I am the type of guy who gets antsy when im near 1/4 tank and i know better but it happens !!! Out of all the super crappy emissions junk on new equipment i have to say they got the fuel systems figured out !!! You cycle the key a couple times and they fire right back up . Its awfully hard on the fuel system though

I carry my skid steer all the time in my dumptruck and pull my excavator on the tag trailer at the same time works well. I unhook the trailer and drop the gate to level and back the truck 90 degrees to the trailer run the skid steer up the trailer and turn 90 and right in the back of the truck backwards so I can use the bucket to lift the gate back up. Then hook the trailer back up and load the excavator or other equipment, depending on the lay of the ground sometimes I lift the truck bed to level up the the trailer. It works extremely well.
