I am also dealing with thrips 🥲. Predatory mites kept them at bay for about two years, but this summer has been so hot so we’ve been leaving our windows open at night and I guess they’ve flown in. Thrips spend part of their life cycle in the soil, so I’d look into Hypoaspis miles to attack that part of the life cycle! There’s also Orius insidiosus that’ll go for adult thrips. Cucumeris only target thrips larvae and won’t do much against adults.

I have been battling thrips for two years now!!! It never ends 😢 they rarely take a plant down but it is a constant fight. So frustrating. But yes we are ok we will be ok.

I’ve also failed at propagating a euphorbia ghost I got my mom, they’re so pretty and I have one that’s lovely and doing well but now I’m scared to try propagating it because I don’t want to risk losing it 🤣

My cacti had mealies too and I was gutted!! I have lost so many this past year and have been replacing them with tropical plants. I’m yet to experience the joys of thrips so was very grateful that you shared video of what to look out for. Also loved seeing Cleo demonstrating her water fountain. My cats refused to use theirs 😂 Happy Growing from a new follower in Wiltshire xxx

It sucks when our babies get sick. My alocasia pink dragon just recently started acting up and I pulled her skirt up and she had very little roots but no rot..thank you Lord...no pest or anything so I think it had been supporting those big leaves with not many roots...I just washed what roots was left and put her in perlite...I hope she does well

Cleo is sooooooo cute!, 😻 Under optimal conditions, thrips go from egg to mature egglaying monster in about 7 days. An adult thrip lives a bit over a month and can produce way over a 100 eggs in that time, they dont have to mate to produce fertile eggs. In other words, they can multiply at an insane speed. Its good that you have those mites 😊 if you have plenty of mites and make sure they are active for a couple of months (no dying out of mites, replace timely) it should get rid of the thrips I also have plants that need to be dusted Happy to stay on top of watering and repots…. But on dusting…… I am always behind 😅 Hoping your Alien will grow the way you want (Martianum Fat Boy)

I would love to see a care video on your Alocasia regal shield, I've just dipped my toes in Alocasia genus and I have been going from video to video trying to gain as much understanding as I can. I've potted mine up in a very chunky mix with orchid bark, bio char, perilte, and some happy frog mix. She is inspired by your big beauty and I want to give her the best care possible. Have a great day 😊

Your ninja is gorgeous, I bought one that's been on the struggle bus for a while. I just have horrible luck with alocasias i guess. Also I'm so sad I had one of those white candleabra euphorbia cactus like you and the heat wave killed it in a single day it full on melted, nothing to save 😢 I had a similar white euphorbia at my last house that melted in a day with snow, they must just be very temperature sensitive belong in California only lol

Nice to see you are also collecting Cacti and Euphorbia now expanding other genes than just aroids. I only collect Hoya’s, Euphorbia, Ficus, Sansevieria’s more in my collection. Definitely more low maintenance plants. I find Aroids so much maintenance and also not a fan of their growth structures. I cannot find your other channel. Did you have your wedding day yet? That brand of clothing you are wearing the degrees which shop is it? I also see Wildfern’s channel wearing this brand aswell.

Funny, I just noticed you spend a lot of time looking at the screen instead of the camera, I realize you’re making sure we can see what you want us to see. I don’t tend to connect to the person filming as much then. Just an observation, no hate. Is that your pickle plant in the cabinet that’s like, 3 feet tall? Mines growing well right now but only about 6 inches atm The “gadget” you’ve got I bought just some of the swirly fan bits and I adore them, my alocasias are looking fabulous, I didn’t buy it with the stakes cause where the middle of the fan is, is the main stems are, so I don’t see where to put that stake right in the middle, the petioles hold up the swirl in place

When you're lazy, can u use like a mini humidifier in your cacti and succulent thingee

Be careful with the communal watering and root mealybugs, they can spread quick that way.

How about just 'dusting' your plants in the shower? I haaate dusting too so whenever someone's too dusty, I just take them to the shower. I feel like it's a lot quicker (even u have to move the plants) and it may even get rid of some pests (at least if you do it often enough) 😆

10:03 - that is classic mite damage on that cactus. Totally treatable, but the damaged tissue won't return to green. You need to act fast, those things like to spread. I have about 600 cacti, so am alway on the lookout . Thrips, on the other hand, do not seem to afflict cacti. I am a member of several cacti clubs, and nobody has ever mentioned thrips in their collection, and nor had I encountered them until I started with leafy plants. It's usually mites and mealy bugs (also root mealies - always check the bottom of your pots and the trays).
@rosaerdbeershake91942 ай бұрын
Adult thrips seem to love cacti and succulents in my experience, especially Jungle cacti. However I never saw larvae in them, only in leafy plants. And they seem to mark plants they have eaten, so other thrips know where to go. Terrible.

I don’t think predatory mites cure the thrips. They just keep the population from getting out of control.
