What's the fastest way to tell if it's a fixed metering device or TXV? Is there another way to tell without physically looking in the coil?

Once you get familiar with brands / models of equipment you will have an idea, best way I verify is checking the system for TXV physically.

What affect does a larger cap have on the compressor…I thought higher uF was ok?

It's going to break the compressor over time. You're thinking of the voltage on the capacitor. You can use 440 on a 370, but not 370 on a 440.

Higher or lower, incorrect microfarad range, will affect the position of the magnetic field, ( start windings) motor amp draws and performance, reducing longevity of motor

I have a new Goodman. Should there be water settling in the outside unit. Some is draining out on the concrete pad. This is separate from the drain line from the air handler.

Normal operation there shouldn’t be water draining, a lot of factors could cause excess condensation. Start by making sure filter and coils are clean and have it serviced to be safe

@@subcoolHVAC This is brand new so filter and coils are clean. The condensation is on a cylinder next to the compressor with 2 copper tubes. Not sure what that part is called. This would be set up from the factory but Goodman is no help so far.

Sounds like suction accumulator, it’s there to prevent liquid refrigerant from entering compressor. It will sweat due to it being between suction inlet to compressor and reversing valve suction line. Best to have installer verify charge is correct and not overcharged.

Use zip ties that allow the screen to rise up 4 or 5 inches when fan is blowing.
