I just have to comment. So it's been a while since I've been in a Goodwill. My mom loves to thrift and was in town for the holidays. I took her to a couple of stores and finally Goodwill. As soon as I walk in I head for the furniture because you can really make some money on larger items. When all of a sudden the heavens parted and two gentlemen walked out from the back with a mid century Milo Baughman brass Cantilever Etegere! I recognized it immediately. It's been some years but I've flipped one before. My heart started racing, my hands were shaking and I started to sweat. I asked how much and if it was for sale. He said yes and $15. I thought I heard $50 which I would have gladly paid but then he repeated himself and swear I heard a choir sing. I said I'll take it maybe a little too loud and raced to the cashier before I passed out. Once I paid for it and had the receipt in my hot little hand I had to tell my mom what had transpired. My hands were still shaking as I relayed the story to her and showed her on the phone what these sell for. (They sell up to $3,000!!!)

Jocelyn you knocked it out of the park last night with first WHATNOT auction it was amazing and fun to just be in the crowd.
@tanya29262 жыл бұрын
It was also fun when she was finished with her auction she did a "RAID" on another live auction. That is where all the people that were at the Jocelyn's auction were instantly sent to another live auction. The person from the other auction was shocked that so many people were now at her auction and was so touching to see. She was very grateful and in tears. WhatNot is a neat sort of pay it forward venue by allowing sellers to do that.

Is it a 'quirk' of the US collector market that items made in China/Hong Kong/Taiwan just don't sell for that single reason? I see a lot of YT resellers reject it, but Honk Kong is 60s/70s, Taiwan is 80s, China came in soon after and it's the oval, gold foil stickers that give away the age... so you can get a lot of vintage especially kitsch which does hugely well here in Australia. I think HK plastic jewelry even has it's own collector base. Just my limited knowledge, it's interesting to see the differences in markets.
