We just finished running a tiller to grind up and separate the several inches of soil on the road we're building down to the lake. But we're going to now switch to a box blade and use the scarifiers (ripper shanks) to see if we can get a comparable result with a cheaper attachment. And then we'll use the box blade to begin removing the loosened topsoil. We'll see if there is a clear standout as a better attachment for the job.

You're taking out all the organic material and here I am filling my low spots with logs lol. Most logging roads around here are built the same way. Trucking in fill is not an option for me, so need to get across the swampy parts some how. Great video as always. Tiller then bucket seems like the way to go for sure.

“It ain’t got no gas in it”. I’m a big box blade fan and maintain farm field dirt roads with mine. My best results are achieved with a Hyro tractor ( much quicker changing directions ) with a box blade that is sized to not stick out past the rear wheels and always pulling the deep ripped material forward and depositing it where I want it. After deep ripping raise the shanks up to where they still slightly dig in. Also I’ve learned that a smaller open station hydro tractor is much better when working on trails in the woods ( you have a full 350 degree un obstructed view ) and you dont have to worry about shattering a window. Thats gonna be a beautiful place when you get it set up like you want it! 🔥👍

As someone who owns both, I prefer using the tiller to break it up and then coming in with the box blade with the scarifiers being all the way up to clean up the dirt. It gives a really nice finished product compared to tiller/bucket or using the box blade and scarifiers.

Also you need weights on your box blade when you are working in mud like that. For my 5ft blade I put 300lb on. So for that one I would recommend 500lb if it has a good place to put them.

I love my box blade for maintaining my driveway which is over a mile long. But in spring I have that same issue with the leaves on the edges. It clogs the box and actually lifts it like you said. Great video.

Doing ground prep for my large barn build I couldn't get my hands on a tiller. Dad brought his 80s model Chalmers tractor and used a 5-finger cultivator while I used my box blade with my 2017 McCormick. Half a day and we'd cut down the hill better that a foot, a space about 50 ft x50 ft!

Have you ever used geotextile fabric? It was used in several parts of the trails at my parents' cabin and those areas tend to need lesd maintenance than areas without it. It seems like a worthwhile thing to install on a virgin path

you need to make a shute and push the material with a box blade, or the skid steer, or the front bucket on the tractor doesn't matter but you make a shoot and you let the dirt build ups on the sides to contain the material.

I have used a box blade to put in a short driveway, I would use the rippers down and go over it a few time offsetting it each time then use the bucket to scope it up and move it to a pile. It also depends if it is wet or dry.

I always thought the rear of the box blade was for cutting dirt like a dozer blade and draging it forward was for moving or finish filling. I am not a tractor guy so if I am wrong please let me know. In my mind I would pitch the box blade until the inside blade is up 3/4 inch up above the ground then back up set the draft control and let her eat.

I know your pain in the neck with a box blade. I was thinking of a camera and viewing screen to help with the strain. When I was prepping for a metal building site I switched back and forth from the box blade with rippers to scooping up the spoil with the bucket. What you need is one of the industrial road scrapers….

I have a box blade and haven't yet learned how to use it to best effect. Not doing what I envisioned it being able to do. Doesn't seem to level unless the ground is already level and a little too low and it will stall the tractor. Gotta play with it some more.

Great video! I have the same tractor and when I hit the 4x4 button I feel nothing happens and I cannot see any indicators on the screen. I feel that there must be some display indicator to let the operator know 4x4 is engaged or not. I feel maybe mine is broken somehow

Just a thought but I leave my bucket on and spin around and clean up those piles along with the box blade rear blade.

You should have used the 72” tiller on the kubota, prepared the entire trail, then take the 1025R and go over that with the landscape rake angled just a little for the dirt to move towards the outer edge of the trail. (don’t use the kubota because the weight will just compress the loose dirt like it was before) using the landscape rake will take off the loose dirt without accidentally cutting into the soil underneath that’s still tight and compact.

Just a thought till it first like you did then use a rear blade to scrape it all over to one side and then pick up with the bucket. I think that would be better then the box blade.

When moving dirt. I leave my rippers just scraping the surface that keeps the box blade from floating on the surface. Ideally the rippers are below the blade about an inch. Just what I do.

I like the job the tiller did. Stone is readily available where I live. I wouldn't remove top soil, just put plenty of rock on it. The box blade looks like a waste of time.
@Kaelland
@Kaelland 2 жыл бұрын
One thing a box blade is good for is refreshing an existing driveway. The stone will get pushed down into the soil as it gets driven over. You can use the ripper shanks to pull the gravel back up and then use the blade on the box to level it all back out.
@Kaelland
@Kaelland 2 жыл бұрын
Would using a snow pusher like a dozer blade work better on the tilled section than a standard bucket? Or would the snow pusher box fill up with dirt and get too heavy for the tractor to push too fast to be practical?
@hc7190
@hc7190 Жыл бұрын
Be careful pushing backwards with the box blade as a 3 pt setup on your tractor is designed to pull and not so much to push.
@WillieBHardagan

To me it would seem more of a fair comparison to use the bucket to remove the loosened soil with a bucket the same you would after tilling it..... yes a tiller loosens it much better but also can use the box blade for other things besides just breaking up the soil and for less money.
