This movie really reminds me of me back in 2014 when I left a sales job at a store to work at Internet Company also as a sales rep. We also had a large assembly on the first day and were assigned a team. I was around 29 back then and my other coworkers who had been there for maybe 6 months were 21 and I did feel a little out of place with all these kids' who knew everything about systems and how to process complicated orders with their newest iphone 6 and I had an obsolete Iphone 3s, but had experience in sales face to face and would use my skills in not just sweet talking but de-escalating situations like Vince talks, very friendly and assuring and my friends were like...."wtf, how can you talk to customers like that, you sound like you know them, and how do you find what to say in just a second to avoid more confrontations and still get a sale" So I told them I would bs but in a nice way, they are people after all not just business owners. I invited them for a few drinks and have been friends since 2014 and now its 11/2024

This was one of my favourite movies and for someone who transitioned from marketing to data analytics, I felt I could relate. In fact, when this movie came out I was still in marketing.The archetypes in the movie might be a bit exaggerated, not all marketers are that dumb... 😅 but yeah I know the stereotype... but learning SQL, Python, Excel, data warehousing, etc. was a scary transition but the more I jumped into it, the more interested I've become with it. I love this movie!

I'm glad someone finally reacted to this movie!! I saw this movie randomly back with a friend of mine when it came out, we were 13 at the time. This is honestly my favorite movie and pretty much no one knows about it. It was really cool getting to hear from someone who works for google reacting to the movie. I'm a Mechanical Engineering student at the University of Houston and dream about being able to work at google or even tour it one day. Fun fact the scene wasn't in your edited version for the video but in the Nap Pod scene, the guy that tells them to be quiet is actually the Director of the movie Shawn Levy. He is probably my favorite director, recently he directed Free Guy witch just released and he is the director for Stranger Things.

Hey Hayden, Righttt! It’s a really great movie, and I’m glad you enjoyed it as much as I did reacting to it. That’s also such a cool fact re. the Director and something I wasn’t aware of! Drop me a DM on Twitter and I’ll see if there’s any way I can help re. Internship opportunities whilst you’re studying. ✌️

I heart "Stranger Things". Shawn Levy rules.

Google isn't the only company that uses names for new hires. When I first stared in tech 10 years ago and was hired as a T1 support for HostGator, we were called "Hatchlings" and for years that was the name. You could identify someone as new as they were listed everywhere as a Hatchling.

This is what I needed! I'm actually looking to become an IT and my dream job is working at Google ever since I've watched this movie back when it came out. And tbh is one of those movies I watch to not quit my dream and make it possible someday. Now having a proof that most of it is like how it's shown, and the fact of the Internship and being a real thing actually makes me even dream higher and higher. Thanks for reacting to it. Someday if I get the chance to be there even for a Tour or an Internship I'll certainly search for you and give you the "thanks" for this video which inspired me even more. I'm from Paraguay and I hope someday to be there !

I like Google, it is changing the world for the better! I didn't see the one part in the movie that had the biggest impact on me. When the girl says that in todays world you can do everything perfect and still not get the job.

I have recently joined Google as well, and it seemed to me that the stuff in the movie they portray pretty accurately, however, I am not in any Standard Google Office, so I kind of miss out on some of the stuff, but they are good at making it up to us. I remember the interview process being very long, and I believe that I went through 7 interviews. And, why does (Ryan) screw up the line about "if you don't have a webcam then what type of computer do you use for your coding ability?" I think that line is completely unnecessary. But, so far so good, and I believe that I am still a Noogler and I just got my hat. :D Unfortunately the Noogler hat is not the same as the one in the movie, but close. The movie has a stretchy band over the back and the back most color is yellow. The Noogler hat you get when you complete that training is green on the back and uses those yucky plastic hat sizers. I want the one from the movie! ;)

I really enjoy this movie! its probably one of the definetive 'easy watching' movies for me! I also would love to work at Google it looks soo fun! But whenever I go on their vacancies paige I always get swept up in all of the technical wording. oh well maybe one day ill figure it out :) Anyway. Good video Bud! keep up the fine work. It was intresting to find out just how much of the 'Googleyness' in this movie was true to sorce.
@CharlesKerr2 жыл бұрын
Yeah I totally agree John it's such an easy + fun watch! Don't worry about the technical wording too much, there's loads of non-technical roles at Google for sure, you got this 💪

OMG This is my favorite movie! And watching the movie with a google employee is awesome! I dont know how many times I have watched it while I was living in Turkey. And now I am living in mountain view, so close to google:) I’ve worked as an English Teacher for 15 years and quietted my job and landed here. I am working temporarily as a server on castro street, mountain view. I may take some courses on IT or coding. I dont know if it is possible to start a new career after the age of 37. Well, I even dont know where to start. If you have some recommendations for beginners, I would love to hear them.

It's such a fun movie, so glad you enjoyed it. Ah I was recently in Mountain View, really loved it there to be honest. Let me tell you right now, it's never, never too late to reboot your career. Anything software engineering focussed I'd definitely recommend, and see if you can study part-time and work for a small startup part-time too, smaller teams will be the best way to learn - then use that as a springboard to a larger tech co if that interests you!

Obviously those guys would get hired they are hilarious. But one neat thing was the self driving cars that I can't say have improved one tiny bit in 10 years. Here's a prediction - there will NEVER be fully autonomous cars. If you can't sleep in the back there is no point so it's not autonomous. I'm not sure why they don't try to nail the driverless train first. One last thing for Charles: Do you believe Google is successful solely becasue they chose the name Google? I don't think there is any difference in the search results accross the variious search engines. Google was smart in it's purchase of KZbin, and TikTok and super smart for picking the name Google. So I can't imagine they would have ever gone public without the name Google.
