This is one of the popular Google Home Mini tricks. A tutorial for the Google Home Mini AUX mod, not a software hack for those wondering - more of a hardware hack. You can hack your Google Home Mini to have a headphone jack like the one I make in this tutorial video. This Google Home Mini speaker hack is perfect for anyone who likes simple electronics project ideas and wants to add and AUX output to their Google device.
This is an easy Google Home Mini AUX jack mod anyone with some basic electronics knowledge can try, even a beginner. The Google Home Mini Aux Out mod is one of the Google Home Mini hacks you won't see often, so impress your friends with your electronics skills and start your audio jack mod!
If you have upgraded your smart speaker to a Google Nest Mini or another Virtual Assistant such as Amazon Alexa or Apple Siri and have an old one of these smart speakers laying around, see what other google mods you can try on it and let me know.

I am currently using the Bluetooth option, you can simply ask your Google home to enter Bluetooth pairing and then search the device on your phone's Bluetooth settings. It is the same as doing this with the same amount of lag. This method in the video would be worth the effort if it didn't have any lag at all.

Hi, you could mention it has a standard feature to connect the Best Mini to a Bluetooth receiver, like a speaker or a RCA Bluetooth receiver? That way you would have stereo as well. In Google Home Assistant app goto the settings of the Nest, set it to Bluetooth discoverable, as well as the speaker, pair the speaker. Nice hack though.

Hey Danny, keeping in mind im just a DIY guy and stand to be corrected - you can connect it onto an amp, but you will only have mono, not stereo sound. Why resistors? The bluetooth speaker wouldn't be driven by the google speaker amp. The bluetooth speaker has its own amp.
@-Fritz-
@-Fritz- 2 жыл бұрын
I'm 2 months late, but just in case anybody else has the same question: You're plugging into the AUX in on the bluetooth speaker which requires a lower voltage than what is supplied by the wires on the nest mini you're tapping into. The two resistors in that configuration creates what is called a _voltage divider._ So as an example. If you're getting 3 volts from the nest mini amp to the nest mini speaker and you don't use the resistors, you're also sending 3 volts to the AUX in on the bluetooth speaker, which is too much and you'll probably end up killing its amp. But if you do use the resistors, you'll be getting 3 volts from the nest mini amp to the nest mini speaker, but only 0.273 of a volt to the bluetooth speaker, and you won't kill it. _(If you add the resistors the wrong way around, you'll be sending 2.727 volts to the AUX in, which would be a waste of time. (3 - 0.273 = 2.727 volts)_ And mathematics for the fun of it. :) _(Voltage input x Resistor_2) / (Resistor_1 + Resistor_2) = voltage output._ Voltage input = 3 volts. Resistor_1 = 3000 ohms. Resistor_2 = 300 ohms ((3 x 300) / (3000 + 300) ) = 0.273 voltage output. And you don't necessarily have to use a 300 ohm and a 3000 ohm resistor. A combination along that ratio would do the same thing: A 600 ohm and a 6000 ohm combination would result in the same voltage output. ((3 x 600) / (6000 + 600) ) = 0.273 volt output. A side note, but important. Voltage dividers aren't really meant to carry current. So you can't use them to lower the voltage in order to power anything. Halving the voltage to power a 6 volt light globe from a 12 volt battery for example, you'll be getting 6 volts to the light globe, but the current will burn out the resistors as soon as you turn on the light. _(exceptions apply)_ The current going to the bluetooth speaker in this video is miniscule, so it's not a problem here.

If you cut out the internal speaker then I imagine you wouldn't need the impedance resistors?

Tinker Man Mick. Thanks for the reply, the problem I’m having is when using the new aux port plugged into an amplifier.

Others have suggested adding a switch to disable the internal speaker while an external speaker is in use. That may help?

Ironically a 3000 ohm and 300 ohm resister in parallel equals 272 ohms. So I don’t see why you couldn’t have just used the 270 ohm resister by itself. 🤔

Because it wouldn't work. Notice that the resistors aren't wired in as one. One leg of each resistor goes to different places, and the other legs of both resistors are joined and feed the line out positive. This method is called a voltage divider.

@@paulraymond1804 sure enough I think I missed the part where he connected them to both leads of the speaker wires. Oops. Now it’s making sense. 👍🏻

That would not work, you need the voltage divider created by the two resistors. Notice that the output to the jack comes from the joint of the two resistors.

It's absolutely not a waste of time. A hard wired connection is always superior to a wireless connection, especially Bluetooth. I am going to tear down a mini and install it in my Ryobi radio.

Thanks for the like, whoever you are. I have today installed the brainbox of a Google home mini in my Ryobi workshop radio. It's portable, sounds great and I estimate a 5ah battery can run it for about 12 hours. When the battery goes flat, I just put a fully charged one in. I think there's nothing on the market like this.
