Google's Jamboard is a 4K, internet-connected whiteboard that can sync across dozens of other computer, tablet, and whiteboard screens. We stopped by Google’s New York office to check it out.

I'd love this in my studio, even just for doing quick sketches and mockups with clients, without even going into the whole screen sharing stuff (although I already do some of that with remote clients).

Awesome! This will be amazing when it's cheap enough to use in public schools as it will hold the pupils' attention and stick in their memory so much better than standard chalkboards or whiteboards with plain written text.

My school has a smartboard even now. But they are so unuseful that our school stopped using them and put projectors with wireless keyboards and mouses instead. Jamboard is way cooler than a smartboard. But maybe a smartboard is enough for the hardware while you use the Jamboard software via the website.
@EvanNakagawa

This price point puts it in direct competition with Smartboards and I think that's a great move. With a little more refinement, I can definitely see devices like these being more and more commonplace in business or education environments.

+Stranger Happened How are you going to show the table to a room of people? Genius. The normal whiteboard is a vertical and, hence, less ergonomic version of the normal table. smh
@ThomasVanhelden
@ThomasVanhelden 7 жыл бұрын
+Stranger Happened It's abundantly clear that you've never worked as a team in an interactive way... You don't want to constantly stand when something is explaining/drawing something on the whiteboard. A normal display isn't enough because people are frequently getting up and drawing/explaining their own ideas. I have worked as a team in an interactive way and I've also used the Microsoft Table (i.e. Surface). I've even written my own drawing application for the Microsoft Table. I do think what Google is coming up with is way better and way more ergonomic than the Microsoft Table. The only thing I'm skeptical about is the cost. They haven't announced it yet but whiteboards are dirt cheap. I don't know if the advantages are going to outweigh the cost.
@ThomasVanhelden
@ThomasVanhelden 7 жыл бұрын
+Stranger Happened But the scenarios for which the Google Jamboard is made, don't require work with your hands flying high for any prolonged time. That's just not how these kinds of meetings work. The whiteboard in meeting rooms is not meant for working (long periods of time), it's meant for writing down ideas drawing things to make them clear to your audience. It's not meant for constantly drawing or working at all.
@ThomasVanhelden
@ThomasVanhelden 7 жыл бұрын
+Stranger Happened You make it seem as if humans can't write on a board for more than a minute straight without injuries... First of all, these meetings don't require you to continuously write on the board. Secondly, you're not alone. There are other people that will write on the board. You seem to forget that whiteboards are already used for these kind of things. This Jamboard is making the traditional whiteboard more ergonomic than it already was. I've never heard anyone complain about the ergonomics of the traditional whiteboard. So I can't imagine anyone complaining about a version with better ergonomics. Just face it dude. There is no way you can have any productive meetings on a table. But how can you know if you have 0 experience with team meetings.

no need for a separate projector or computer it seems. no longer need to replace the bulbs in the projector. when factoring the costs of contracting installation of each individual device it adds up quick, so this is a more affordable alternative when thinking about replacing or upgrading from the older technology.

Well that function is already included in Windows 10 for 2 years. And actually the Whiteboard App seems superior, because people can interact in the same time on the Board, but the Google Jamboard is more likely Skype Conference Video Chat when the function of sharing your Desktop with the Person you are talking to, but not giving him a chance to interact with what he is seeing. I may be wrong with that statement but that's what I get from the video I just saw - limited to just seeing what the person you are talking to is doing on his desk, but not able to interact.
@kornkernel2232
@kornkernel2232 7 жыл бұрын
Not to mention is the Microsoft Whiteboard will likely going to end up with Surface Hub, which based on what I saw from this video, the Surface Hub still looks more superior. There is another thing that Jamboard don't offer an app for Windows 10, especially that many runs on Windows and a chance of sporting a Windows hybrids/2-in-1s. Yes, there are more iPads and Android tablets out there especially for BYOD, so does the Whiteboard app is. Which this makes Surface Hub at the moment a bit more cross-platform I think.

These will absolutely be the boards for well funded schools in the 2020s, and badly funded schools in the 2030s. The advantages over whiteboards, just as whiteboards over blackboards, will be clearer with time, better pricing, utility, and user friendliness. (We already have 'smartboards', but its still exception, not rule.)
