I have used my Chromebook daily and exclusively for over 18 months. Other than missing Blender, I have had no issues. I do not deal with MS files regularly, but I have been able to open all Word documents with no issues. I have not had to try Excel or PowerPoint. I am a Google user for all productivity. Chromebook Plus is just a naming convention for the top Chromebooks. I feel if you are working on a Chromebook daily, you need a Chromebook Plus Model. My favorite is an Acer Spin 714, with Core i7, 16 GB RAM and 256GB Storage

Just a little clarification as someone who has used Chromebooks for a decade now: 1. Chromebooks are laptops that are specifically designed to run ChromeOS. Much of the hardware is the same as you standard Windows laptop. And you can often breathe new life into an old laptop using ChromeOS which has lighter hardware needs. 2. Chromebook Plus refers to a set of specifications rather than a subscription, so no "joining" the plus aspect. Essentially the Plus category is one where Google specificies a minimum set of hardware and how it's used to give a premium experience on very reasonably priced hardware. A $500 Chromebook is a lot of computer, where a $500 Windows machine is often meh. 3. Write down or type exactly what you need and want a computer to do. Be specific. If, for instance, you need it to compile large file videos in 8k, buy a pro level Mac. If you're doing a lot of web based browsing, general light computing, and frequent Android app use, welcome! Chromebooks aren't for everything. They are a flexible too, like any computer. And for a lot of people, it's all they really need. For example, certain family members can find ways to break an OS very quickly,. Hand them a Chromebook, set up a Google account, and 15 minutes later they are up and running. That's not hyperbole, it's fact. I've done it. That time frame is generous, it can be 10 minutes, which is about all the time I need if I get a new Chromebook.

Contrary to popular belief, you can do almost anything you could otherwise do on a windows or macbook with a Chromebook now, as long as you're comfortable with linux (or willing to learn). I myself have a decked-out Chromebook (ex-macbook pro user) and I can't see myself going back to one, even with their shiny new M chips. I love being able to use Android, Linux and even Windows apps without batting an eye while having an always fast and lightweight OS. You really can't beat the experience.
@Pixlewatchtoo5 ай бұрын
@@850393 I'm with you on that. And all it takes is maybe a few hours (a few hours too long for most people apparently) a good computer it is, held back because similar to Linux it takes learning to get crazy stuff
@BruhHowDidIGetHere5 ай бұрын
@@850393 I had to use Linux Mint for a few years on an old laptop before it died on me, it wasn't bad but I didn't pick anything difficult. I managed to get a $300ish (If memory serves me right) Chromebook at a pawn shop for $150. I understand what you are saying but to many buyers they are seeing the prices being nearly similar and at times with worse specs. It would be nice for Chromebook manufacturers to try and bring up the performance and try to keep costs at a minimum. Maybe it will be Google if they bring a version of Tensor to the laptops. Who knows...
@tommanseau62775 ай бұрын
I understand the reticense to buy a high spec Chromebook, but honestly, I've been using mid tier $550 and under Chromebooks for a decade now. I'm using one right now. And I feel so annoyed when I have to use Windows 11. What a piece of garbage OS. It's worse with the new Clippy "co-pilot" piece of trash nobody asked for. It's losing market share to Windows 10, it's that bad.

I wonder if gemini on the newer chromebooks can be uninstalled since I never use ai. I have windows copilot for windows 10 and windows 11 and I want to remove it since it's windows ai bloatware. Apparently there is no way to completely uninstall co pilot on windows, not even from control panel since I tried it and there is no option to completely get rid of copilot. The windows forums all said to disable copilot even though there are windows users that want to get rid of copilot. Windows copilot is already taking screen shots and uploading it to the cloud to microsofts servers with and I don't want the same thing to happen to chrome os with gemini. When manufacturers says that ai is on the device I only take what they say with a grain of salt since they can manipulate the operating system and make ai take over the operating system without the users control. It would be worse if the manufacturers built the ai in the software to brick the devices intentionally because the device is considered outdated and the manufacturers choose to go that route like the spotify car thing in order to make a quick buck when a new product comes out and they no longer care about supporting older devices. Planned obsolescence has already become normalized and certain devices instantly become bricked on purpose due to software updates or anything software related. There are even certain manufacturers that have force arbitration already included in the terms and conditions and the consumers are stuck with products and services that are considered e-waste on the hardware level because they are old even though they still work perfectly fine while the support is no longer available.
