Hey Brett, great video, picked up my Max a few days ago and it works great even if some features are limited here in Poland. The best feature is the camera, set it up in the Nest app so the Max records what happens it my flat while I’m away and the app alerts me. Plus it’s cool that it recognizes me and displays my little avatar. Keep up the good work, you are my Google guru :).

Yes you can call anyone that has Google Duo on their phone, tablet, smart display or computer. The camera also zooms in to give you the best positioning.

I wish they would fix the Nest Hub to be able to control basic on/off switches like the actual app. From my app I can turn on and off each individual switch in a room grouping. However on my nest hub I can only adjust brightness of bulbs and turn off or on the entire room. They should make the best hub work just like the app on controls like that.

It's good that it can connect to the 5 Ghz network for video calls... but aren't you suppose to be connected to the same network the smart devices you want to control is on. I.E.: TP Link smart plugs that only use the 2.4 network, can you still control them through the Google Home if the Hub Max is on the 5G network and the smart plugs are on the 2.4 network??

Hi, good video. I've set mine up and it realky feels that this is an unfinished product. The lack of abity to tweak a search manually by text in KZbin is so painful as the results are so inconsistent. The lack of Netflix blows. Other than that it's OK. The duo calling is pretty good. Gestures are basic but good. Sound is good. In hindsight a docked tab with Bluetooth speaker is better but doesn't look as good

Great sound - its best feature is playing music but it’s quite limited in what it can do. We wanted to stream Freeview or Netflix on it but you can’t - also why can’t it have a browsers - it’s just a gloried clock and music speaker

Just buy a full functioning tablet. Everything that is available on a phone and nest is also available on a tablet except landline service calling normally unless you call through an app that's supported for the tablet.

Hi Scott, at this point the sensors don’t show up in Google routines, even if they are linked through SmartThings. I use Alexa to handle this stuff but saw your question and linked my SmartThings through the Google Home app too. All my devices show up fine but I can’t include the sensors in routines. I’d say get an Echo Dot 3 or the little Echo Show, Alexa is way better when it comes to smart home options.

Does the camera pan up and down as well as side to side? I'm wondering if positioning it at around chest height will result in video calls of mostly the roof and the tops of kids heads?

Testing this today I does up and down and side to side. The up and down seemed to work better but three of use were in the room and it had a hard time moving to each side. We were in a big room so I will do some more testing on that. It did keep the kids fully in frame even with me being much higher. As I crouched down it lined up beautifully.

After buying one of these and positioning on a bench at adult chest height (while standing) I can report it will find and zoom in on kids if they are standing maybe 2 metres or more away from it. Any closer and they're below it's field of vision. The zoom at that range not great but acceptable. If you have very young kids who would keep wanting to get close you'll have a problem, but if your kids are a bit older you should be fine.

I would really like to find a way to reposition the PIP window during a Duo video call. This is the window that shows me as seen by the person I am in the call with. Right now it is positioned in the upper right corner of the screen. I have seen videos on KZbin showing this window positioned in other corners so I know it must be possible, but a recent chat with Google support told me it cannot be moved. That just does not sound right.

I do like that you didn't say hey Google, which would otherwise accidentally activate devices in range of the speaker, had to reboot because for some reason the right side of the screen was not responding, although, 1 weird thing on both my nest devices is it still shows a deleted light bulb as activated even though it can't reach it, it's not in Google home, but it's in the nest which wasn't even activated when I removed that device

Can we get a power consumption report when using different features and a for a week. Google says the Max has a 30 Watt adaptor, the Hub a 15 Watt adaptor, but the Google Home Mini has 5V, 1.8A. Why wouldn’t they state the wattage as well?

There is not on the Hub. Best way to do it is landscape mode on your phone.

Tech with Brett: What do you think about Google terminating its Works With Nest program, and what homeowners of extensive systems using 3rd party formerly-Nest-compatible equipment should do? I doubt that the smaller peripheral manufacturers are going to willingly shell out the cost of developing new backend interfaces when they re already Alexa-compatible. The larger ones that had backends long before Google had an Assistant, will probably be pissed off.

If you are very reliant on that integration I would say don't migrate your account yet and way to see if more of your required partners are added. I for one use some of the features but not anything that useful so I went ahead and miragted to unlock the full use of the Nest Hub Max. I see the whole thing has progression in the right direction to make it a long lasting solution. It is a bummer it couldn't work both ways but that is just how it happened and there is not much else we can do.

Hey Britt. My Google Nest Hub MaxEC1B was working fine until approx. 1 week ago. I had a message it wasn't connected so after trouble shooting everything I knew including restarting the Hub to factory set-up.
