I think the biggest thing this year is that for anything the Pixel is *slightly* better at, it still loses in versatility and video capture options against 95% of it's competition and that's Google's fault.

I agree, in those areas that Pixel excels there is only a marginal gap. They are bested by most competitors in flexibility, base storage and build quality. The still images are no longer enough that gap has closed and they have been left behind in most other aspects.

@Adarsh Anand Definitely agree I think they rested on their laurels regarding still photography and didn't think anyone would catch up and as someone mentioned iPhones haven't even added "deep fusion" yet, typical Apple and their exaggerated names aside, this feature should noticeably improve their stills further effectively closing the gap possibly even surpassing Google.

Great video. Sums it up for me. If we're looking at cameras and OS alone, the choice is easier based on your use case, preference over software and cameras. It's just a shame Google haven't matched the rest of the hardware to Apple's flagship. Yet, that being said, I'm still buying the Pixel 4 XL, as I love the Android experience after many years of using iOS.

It's so damn close, best samples I've seen. It's so clear that software is either holding back or excelling them at a given photo. I reckon you could probably get them to look pretty similar with a bit of editing or reshoot (on the equivalent cameras that is) unless you're only shooting stills, the iphone seems to be the better choice if price doesn't matter . That being said the iphone 11 is cheaper with the same features as the 11 Pro, minus an OLED display. Can't believe the choices this year

So google doesn't nailed it this time as I thought. Another problem for me which I loved with pixel 3 is the consistency for photos. I don't see this anymore Overall the iphone is better especially for hybrid shooter. Also I wish to hear your thoughts about dual exposure and live hdr cuz in my opinion with these features you can take much better pics pretty easy. Even if live HDR is very cool, I think you basically would have the same exact result editing highlights and shadows in post, so it’s not really a game changer

Although live picture/video is something new for the Pixel, the iPhone has done this since the iPhone Xs when it established its image pipeline. The 11 just perfected it with semantic rendering so it can map out the different elements of the image and handle exposure and color depending on the subject matter. When you have the computation oomph of the A13 bionic, you can do lots of things real-time that you can't if you don't have the processing power. So ... to all the folks who make fun of the chip design advancements of the Apple team, and say smartphones scroll or open Instagram fast enough so all that compute power is wasted: you're wrong.

Verne Arase I think he was referring to the live sliders to change highlights/shadows on the pixel. But yeah, the iPhone still can show live portrait mode (since 2016) while the Pixel has to apply that as a filter in post. And then they say that an A13 is stupid because you don’t need that power. Night mode on the iPhone needs 1/3 of the time the Pixel doesl

In a way I am glad the iPhone has improved their camera because now Google has something to really motivate them on improving their camera. I agree..the iPhone video is much better and one of the big reasons I didn't upgrade from my 3xl. I am expecting Google to really set a gap again on the Pixel 5 with pictures and video. As far as UI... Pixel still offers the best Android experience by far. Great video!

coming from someone who owned the pixel 3 and now a iphone 11 pro (i aint no isheep tho) the pixel 4 was killing the pics more to my eye with the color temp, detail, and protraits but yeah video aint even a competition for the iphone but we all these phones are getting some updates including a update with deep fusion for the iphone so you might have to run this one back again lol dope video as always danny

Anyone know the actual angle of the front facing camera for the iPhone 11? I know this year they added that feature where you turn it to landscape and it will punch out to become wider in the view finder, just wanted to know to compare to the pixel

They have pretty much the same angle, but in portrait you have to press the little “zoom” icon on the iPhone to have the wide view

When SLRs became popular before most of us were born, the 50mm focal length was the most common focal length. Photos looked natural, real, pleasing to the eye, and lacked both, wide angle perspective distortion and compression distortion. The phones for the past decade have sported a wider camera. 35mm would be considered somewhat wide - but most cell phones are closer to the 28mm mark. IMHO, the wider the angle, the more difficult it is to take a pleasing photo under most circumstances. Photography is about exclusion most of the times. A good photographer will acknowledge that. In brief, the ~28mm made for a large volume of ugly photography. Now with the ~14mm equivalents, I am not really ready for the influx of even uglier photography left and right... If you can, avoid using wide angle except when you have to. If you can, walk back and zoom in. Please help make photography great again.

Wide angle is indeed useful. It isn't feasible to do the panoramic shot. Wide angle is swifter. Rest either does an amazing job. iPhone has an advantage with the video and hats off to them for that. I wish google improves that in the next flagship. I don't shoot much videos so it's okay.

Once again I largely agree with your comments. But sometimes the selfie facial tones are way off on the Pixel. On the MKBHD/SuperSaf comparison the Pixel Selfies were disgusting, oversharpened and had weird colour facial tones.

Yes, these two are excellent. But I firmly believe Apple has caught up to the pixals computational photography. No ultra wide camera is a huge mistake on Google's part. Plus Apple's batteries are vastly improved, the pixals batteries are just pitiful especially with a 90hz display. This is the first time I would purchase Apple over the pixals. There is no value with the Google phones!

Nope. I'd take the Pixel over the iPhone for video. Just look at the sky in the iPhone video. It just keeps flickering like a old oil lamp. If that gets somehow fixed (probably not because we are talking about Apple) then the iPhone is definitely Nr. 1 for video (overal).

@@dannywinget Yeah, saw it. I can't seem to get onboard with Samsung's color science. It's just a bit off-putting. And the tendency for washed out portraits and blown out highlights definitely doesn't help. I ordered the iPhone 11 Pro yesterday, but I really wish it had the Note 10+'s consistency with respect to edge detection in portrait mode (with the rear camera, that is).

Daytime selfies I would choose iPhone over Pixel. Pixel's face sharpening and contrast is way overdone for my taste, it's to point where it looks unrealistic. Lowlight selfies though, pixel all the way. Also, with tripod the Astrophotography on Pixel blows out the competition as it can go upto somewhere around 5 minutes exposure time as compared to iPhones 30 seconds. Handheld night photography though, iPhone all the way.

Completely agree. But night time selfies on the pixel is very impressive (still, is one very particular case scenario, in every other circumstance the iPhone is on par if not better). Also I think that any competitor with the same SEVERAL minutes of exposure would have the same result as the pixel astrophotography, so I’m hoping some third party app will enable something similar on the competition

I never use the front camera apart from blogging , for selfies , whatever the phone is , I just switch it round and use the rear camera , in bad light the rear main camera and flash is always going to be better than a front facing camera and night mode ✌️😉✌️

I am pixel fan myself but this year is Iphone's year when it comes to cameras. Specially the video quality is not even close. I am wondering is Iphone 11 the same quality video/photo wise as the pro version ? Because if it is, considering the prices are equal to a pixel 4, that will be a deciding factor for me. I've just come home from Orlando and after using my Pro Max constantly I loved having the wide angle camera for certain shots along with the 4k 24fps was just butter. Can't wait to be back over in 3 weeks without the family this time So I can head out on my own and get some awsome night time shots

In some cases it's down to personal preference but either phone takes very good shots. Apple did their homework (long overdue) as to the low light photography, and I must say they really nailed it this time. In the video compartment the iPhone still takes the lead. Well done!

The one thing I'm not liking about the iPhone video is that sometimes it's showing micro adjustments of the exposure in varying areas of the frame. I noticed a few other phones do this slightly as well.

LGs had wide angle lens for a loooong time and even Huawei for a couple of years now. All of sudden now that iPhone has one and everyone wants one on Pixel as well. I'd take best image quality over versatility any day. Wide angle would be a bonus but not if image quality is compromised
