Watching this on my brand new Pixel 5! Your review helped me make a choice towards this phone! I've been using iPhone for 9 years so this is very different for me lol but so far I like it. It's def an upgrade from my iPhone 7 plus. Hopefully I Love it for a long time! I do love having all my Google stuff so accessible. Thank you for making such helpful reviews! Also, I agree the speaker isn't as bad as everyone made it out to be. Had me worried but I think it sounds fine

I’m with you MacKenzie, only I was using an IPhone 6s for years, which I was completely happy with only it was getting very old and I was def in need of an upgrade. I’m loving my Pixel 5 too! In regards to the reviews, I finally have subscribed! Brilliant review for the Pixel 4A 5G, but I still love my P5!

Wireless charging, IP rating, and 90-120hz refresh rate are things 99% of tech reviewers say are a must for a smartphone. I couldn't care less for any of those features.

We also have to remember that not everyone needs a $1000+ flagship phone, though. And reviewers need to keep the average consumer in mind. But I'm also happy that Google released 3 (mostly) reasonably priced phones this year (I think the 5 is maybe $100 more than it should be, but they need to differentiate it from the 4a 5G). The 4a is perfectly priced for what it offers to people like my mom (and actually is more than she needs). The 4a 5G is perfect for someone like me, who wants more than the 4a, but is over spending tons on flagship phones. The mid-range is where the majority of people are going to be, so it's good to hear reviewers hailing the good mid range phones from any manufacturer.

@@SamAltersitz Agreed 💯🤗 OG Pixel XL user here, looking to upgrade soon and leaning heavily toward the 4a5G, thanks to Scott & other reviewers. Part of me wants to wait for a 5a (5a5G ? 😃), but my Pixel's battery life is degrading (after ~2.5 years of heavy usage), and I'm experiencing random app crashes & RAM mngt issues due to the paltry 4 GB of RAM (and likely, to a degree, the older SoC & slow eMMC storage as well). The display & cameras are still great, and AFAIK the modem is fine as well, but I'm not sure that the rest of the phone will survive another 6 (or more) months. 😩🤣

Watching this on my pixel 4a5G which I picked up for free during Thanksgiving T-Mobile promotion! Coming from an Samsung flagship device, this device is on par with the speedy performance, gives you better camera, 5G connectivity, best android experience, optimized battery performance, awesome OLED screen with great color contrast and deep black, and fast charging.... All for price under 500 (cheaper if you can find promotion!) I've been using this device for about a week now, and I thoroughly enjoyed using it as my daily driver! I haven't noticed any hickups, no slowing down, games and apps are run smooth, giving me a snappy & streamlined experience. Only downside would be plastic back panel but this is non-issue for me because I keep my phone in a case anyways. But the matt black finish is very minimalist and in all honesty does not look so bad. Screen has nice hole punch camera hole which is probably the best screen design right now in my opinion! I recommend this phone to anyone!!

Thanks for the vid!!! Just ordered the Pixel 4A 5G (my first Android phone) and I was wondering how good the battery life would be. Techradar said it was mediocre but it's good to hear from people going through normal everyday use that it's more than enough to get you through the day. Honestly, anything is better than my iPhone 6 battery that is now almost down to 50% capacity after 2-3 years. Even at 100% that thing rarely ever made it close to a full day. Couldn't be more excited for the Pixel!

Just got my Pixel 4a 5G recently. My first ever Pixel, being I am from a 3rd world country, buying these type of high end phone is basically a dream. This device though, is a Refurb and I got it for $115 is an absolute steal and a beast. Run's Android 13 flawlessly and battery is just stellar, and of course I can't get enough of Google Photo app magic. It is magic, even if it takes a little 3 sec in low light, the Night Sight photos are just (Chef's Kisses). Thanks for these videos, kind of why I decided to buy once I realized the price drop on Ebay. Big ups to this channel just the same, love your videos.

Hey there Technically Speaking, I've just found this video and want to say THANK YOU!!! for mentioning the speakers and the headphone jack! I can't believe that the designers of the 5G somehow thought that wireless charging was more important than Sound?? The only advantage to the Pixel 5 IMO is the 90 refresh rate (vs 60 on 4a and 4a 5g). Oh, and I really like the "Sorta Sage" colour option on the 5...but sound is still more important! Congrats to Google on their Pixel phones overall.

Im on the fence right now. I currently own a iPhone 7 Plus and I was really looking into upgrading to the iPhone Pro or Pro Max. The cost didn’t match the expectations and neither did the 12. Bottom line I’m being frugal or cheap for that matter. The 11 is looking appealing but the Pixel 4a 5g is spot on a great value. Only thing is I’m in the Apple Ecosystem with a 6 series watch that I won and some EarPods that I purchased.

My 4a5G came in less than a week ago, I couldn't ignore the Black Friday deal when they offered me $300 for my Pixel 3. I really love it, I find it actually much less slippery than the 3. I can sit it on the arm of the couch and it won't slide off. Still have it in a case though - the exact one in this video actually! Speakers are fine, people complaining about the haptics got me nervous as I LOVE the haptics on the 3. There's a bit of a step down but not anything that bothers me. I only had the 3 about 18 months which is a really short time for me, and I have avoided getting Google phones so close to release but...at a net cost of $200...I couldn't say no and NOBODY was going to give me $300 for a Pixel 3 again - especially Google - so I pulled the trigger and early returns are really really positive.
@SamAltersitz
@SamAltersitz 3 жыл бұрын
Even at full cost, $500 isn't a lot when you consider what you get in the phone. The 4a is fine for people like my mom (and I bought her one), and at $350, it's a steal for what you get. The 4a 5G is also a great deal at $500 when all we're losing over the 5 is 2GB RAM, wireless charging, an aluminum body, a 60hz screen instead of 90hz, and not as good Gorilla Glass. Unless someone is a real power user, the 2GB RAM loss won't be noticeable, and not everyone cares about wireless charging (I don't). But getting the same camera setup and the same camera software as the 5 is a nice bonus. It is nice that you got it for $200, though, which makes it an absolute steal.
@RichHutchinson

I forget where I read about it, I think it was 9 to 5 Google, but I don't recall them saying $300, so I was stunned when I saw that on my screen. I also think it's finally time for Google to put a better camera sensor in the Pixel line. The camera is the same sensor that was in my Pixel 2XL, just with massive software improvements. I'm not saying they need to go to a 64 megapixel sensor or anything, but even if they went to a 24 megapixel sensor, and made the software work on it like it has on this old ass sensor, we'd again see the Pixel phones become the flagship cameras on phones.

Fantastic phone! I recently moved from always having iphones and hating androids to this and i really liked it. Although i have a 12 mini now and the only reasons for that is when blown up on a PC monitor the videos seem to look a little grainy/noisy on the 4a even in 4k and some apps navigate better on iphone. I take a lot of videos of family so i really value the video quality. BUT with photos i prefer the pixel over the iphone, the photos are so good! Im actually kind of gutted to go back to iphone (and so is my wallet!) i really wish google would use a newer better lens so the video quality is improved. Once they do this and they can somewhat match iphone video, im 100% getting another pixel.

I've had the 4a5g for about one week and it's a good phone but I prefer my 2XL for looking at photos. I've show people the same photos on both phones and everyone always likes the colors on the 2xl the best. I've tried every setting on the 4a5g and the colors just don't pop like on the 2xl.

The 2XL also has more pixels, as it's a 1440p display. So, obviously pics will look better on that. But I find for everyday use the 1080p on the 4a 5G isn't a huge downgrade. I'm not getting rid of my 2XL, but it's no longer going to be my daily driver.

I bought my mom the 4a because her cheap old LG phone's screen started acting up. I also bought myself the 4a 5G. I'm coming from a Pixel 2XL, so the screen size is fine for me; the phones are pretty much the exact same size. So far, I'm loving it. I'm not a power user. I generally use my phone screen on time for maybe an hour or 2 a day, and mostly on social media (Twitter). The battery life is insane for my usage; I had to constantly play videos to drain the thing to 0% in order to do the whole 0%-100% charge... twice. My battery can go for 25+ hours if I really use my phone minimally. My 2XL's battery had degraded to the point where screen on time literally destroyed it, so I almost constantly had to have it plugged in at work. I chose the Pixel 4a for my mom because she isn't anywhere near a power user (texts, phone calls, Google Duo with my brother and his daughters sometimes), so the $350 phone was fine for her. I chose the 4a 5G for myself because I like the bigger screen, the double camera setup option, headphone jack, and specs that are close to the Pixel 5 without things I don't care about like wireless charging. So far I'm more than satisfied with my purchases. My mom has a working phone that is fine for her needs, and I have a phone that I can use for my needs; and I didn't have to break the bank to get them.

What's crazy is that, even if you paid full price for both of those devices ($850 before taxes), you got a "BOGO" compared to one 128 GB iPhone 12. Let _that_ marinate...🤣 I've been a Pixel user for ~2.5 years and am considering upgrading to the 4a5G from my OG XL. I'll miss the metal build, the 1440p display, and the notification LED a bit, but I know I'll be gaining so much in 5G, SoC, UFS (ROM speed), RAM, cameras, and loud stereo speakers...plus I get to retain a trusty 3.5mm Jack. Seems like a win ! #TeamPixel
@SamAltersitz

@@Sharky165 I did pay full price. I just waited a paycheck between each purchase, and one of my brother's went half on my mom's phone, since he was planning on buying her something, and I didn't want him to overspend or to buy some real cheap phone that wouldn't last a while or not have features she could use. so 4 weeks ago I bought her the 4a, then 2 weeks ago I bought my 4a 5G.

@Sharky165
@Sharky165 3 жыл бұрын
@@missedcaribou7906 The big advantages of Pixels are the great cameras (esp stills), the stock Android OS (fast & smooth UI + the fastest Android updates for 3 years), the value-added software features (Transcribe, Shazam, call Screen, and Hold for Me), and the easily unlockable Bootloaders (on unlocked Pixels) if you ever decide to Root. If those things aren't important enough to you to justify the $220 price difference, def get the A71. From what I've read/heard, it's a really nice phone ! FWIW, a good friend of mine has the A20, and loves it. "Pro tip": Don't forget that, if you wish, you should also be able to sideload GCam onto the A71 (check the XDA site to be sure), which would give you close to Pixel-quality results.

Google needed a bigger phone offering, since the 4a and the Pxl 5 are nearly identical in size. Rumors are that the 4a5G was originally supposed to be a "Pixel 5 XL", but that that idea had to be aborted because Verizon "forced" Google to include mmWave on the Pxl 5, driving up that device's price to $700, from perhaps $550-600. So a Pxl 5XL would've been priced too high, prob $800 minimum -- def too much given the midrange SoC. It certainly would explain the delay in releasing the 4a5G, but only a Google insider would know for sure.

Just got the Pixel 5 and am having to return it. It's not just the sound that is bad coming from the "hidden" speaker, but when you're on a phone call, and listening to the other person, because the speaker is under the glass, the entire phone had a vibrating reverb that is totally annoying and a complete deal breaker for owning this device. I've yet to see ANY of the "Professional Reviewers" mention this huge default in design. I'm getting the 4a 5G now just because of the speakers. I hate to lose the wireless charging & the 90h refresh rate, but the phone call quality is that bad.
